Executive Summary for the State of Oklahoma

The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, the “Oklahoma Food Banks,” are the largest private hunger-relief organizations in the state. Food Banks are the single most important source of food for Oklahoma's hunger relief agencies. Volunteers are the backbone of our work and one of our most valuable resources in the fight against hunger.

This report provides a comprehensive look at hunger in Oklahoma and how the Oklahoma Food Banks and their partner agencies are working together to understand and address the needs of Oklahomans who find themselves in need of food assistance. The information found in this report includes results from Hunger in America 2014, a nation-wide study conducted by Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief charity in the United States. Additional data was provided by state and national reports on poverty and hunger. The information is used to help guide the development of programs and solutions that improve food security for individuals and their households and inform public awareness and policy development for addressing hunger in Oklahoma.

The Hunger Wall is a medieval defensive wall of the Lesser Town of Prague, today's Czech Republic. It was built on Petřín Hill between 1360 and 1362 by order of Charles IV.

Marl from quarries on Petřín Hill was used as construction material. The purpose of the construction was to strengthen the fortifications of Prague Castle and Malá Strana against any attack from the west or south. Originally the wall was 4 to 4.5 metres high and 1.8 metres wide and was equipped with battlements and eight bastions.

The wall was repaired in 1624, further strengthened in the middle of 18th century and repaired or modified several times later (in modern era in 1923-25 and 1975).

A tradition at UIS for a couple years now. The Oxfam hunger banquet shows students the difference in classes around the world. The majority of people are at the poverty level are sitting on the floor, and only get half a sandwich for dinner. Then there are middle class at the tables who get a whole sandwich (without cloths) and the few upperclass who have a full meal at the clothed tables.

This is the Irish Hunger Memorial, a small plot of land, brought over from Eire and plopped down in the middle of Battery Park City. You walk through that dark doorway and up the hill.

SGA president Carlos Gonzales randomly drew from a bucket and ended up in the low income group. Thanks to the SGA representatives who participated in Hunger Banquet 2009. Your support was appreciated. Kudos on organizing OLLU's successful Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (HHAW). The Hunger Banquet is an official event of HHAW.

This story is not about what happened then. This does not start with ‘once upon a time’. This story is also not about what will happen. No advanced civilizations, no Armageddon, no futuristic machines. And this story is surely neither a fairytale nor fantasy. This is real. And this is happening right now—right under our noses. This happens when we’re awake, when we’re asleep, when we eat, when we drink, when we think, when we breathe. This is happening all the time—in every moment that we go about our daily lives. And sadly, hardly anyone knows about this story. And those who know about it are left unheard. But that will end today. Each day, the hunger grows stronger, and it must be satisfied
