It's not a good time to be any sort of larvae with so many warblers nesting now. I suspect this yellow warbler is already feeding nestlings as he was hopping around the tree with his treat, making no attempt to eat it himself. Hyper-Humus marsh, Lafayette, NJ

The signage on the truck in my photo says, "Compost for Soils. Nitro Humus." I'm sure the stars don't need any fertilising, but the thought of having a truck full of chemicals to make the sky look lusher has a comic appeal. The vivid green field to the left of the road was planted with canola & was only a few weeks from bursting into the vibrant yellow that this region is known for in the Australian spring.

On the day I photographed this scene, in late September, a persistent canopy of grey clouds didn't bode well for a session of nightscape photography. Happily, the clouds cleared an hour after dark, and the Milky Way's band of stars, dust lanes and nebulae showed themselves as they eased towards the southwestern horizon near Cowra, Australia.

This photo is a simple single-frame exposure, captured with my Canon EOS 6D Mk II camera, a Samyang 14mm f/2.4 lens @ f/2.8, using an exposure time of 25 seconds @ ISO 6400.

It's rare that I see American Bittern here in northern NJ and to catch on in flight (however imperfectly) was an extra treat. At Paulinskill River WMA, Hyper-humus marsh

The large-spored fallow Russula (Russula emetica) is one of the many red-colored Russula species. It occurs in coniferous forests on dry, nutrient-poor humus. It forms ectomycorrhiza with pines (Pinus). Microscopic examination is necessary to distinguish this species with certainty from the small-spored fallow Russula (Russula silvestris).

The sticky, convex cap of the mushroom is 3 to 10 cm wide. The color is bright red with white shades. The shape is initially domed, later spread out and slightly indented towards the center. The cap skin, which is 2/3 - 4/4 removable, is more or less strong cherry red and usually sticky and shiny. The cap brim is short and often vaguely grooved.

It is a building that is well inserted into the environment, in an "oasis" of Stara Baška, sheltered from the Bora/Bura wind and with that little bit of humus that has allowed the rise of a grove of black Pines (Pinus nigra var austriaca).

The owner, who I don't know if he is happy with this publicity, but I photographed the little bay, the house is in the environment, has respected the international law cited in the title and has left free passage on foot along the coast, probably also arranging a path that winds over the rocks near the wall of the garden of the house.

It should be mandatory and certainly not to be noted, but both in Croatia (Rab-Lopar cape...for example), and in Italy (Costiera Triestina...) there are people who do not respect this simple rule, throwing fences or walls into the water and unduly appropriating stretches of coast that should belong to everyone.

These people should be ashamed of their "private property" (to us) intimidating signs and with them the complacent administrators and the controls that are not carried out.

It is a magnificent place and even more so it should be respected, as done by the (very) lucky owner of those square meters in the greenery near a splendid blue sea.

We watched this rather ragged looking Slaty Skimmer hunting and were eventually rewarded when he returned to his perch with some small insect. About all you can see in this shot is the legs of lunch sticking out of the dragon's mouth.

the grooved bonnet, is a species of mushroom in the family Mycenaceae. The inedible fruit bodies are small, pale gray-brown mushrooms with broadly conical caps, pinkish gills. They are found in small troops on stumps and branches of deciduous and occasionally coniferous trees. The mushroom is found in Asia, Europe, and North America, where it is typically found on twigs or buried wood, carrying out its role in the forest ecosystem by decomposing organic matter, recycling nutrients, and forming humus in the soil.

Camellia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. Camellias are evergreen shrubs or small trees up to 20 m tall. They are found in eastern and southern Asia, from the Himalayas east to Japan and Indonesia. There are about 300 species and around 3,000 hybrids. Their flowers are usually large and conspicuous, one to 12 cm in diameter, with five to nine petals in naturally occurring species of camellias. The colors of the flowers vary from white through pink colours to red. Of economic importance in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, leaves of C. sinensis are processed to create the popular beverage tea. The ornamental C. japonica, C. sasanqua and their hybrids are the source of hundreds of garden cultivars. C. oleifera produces tea seed oil, used in cooking and cosmetics. The various species of camellia plants are generally well-adapted to acid soils rich in humus, and most species do not grow well on chalky soil or other calcium-rich soils. Most species of camellias also require a large amount of water, either from natural rainfall or from irrigation, and the plants will not tolerate droughts. However, some of the more unusual camellias – typically species from karst soils in Vietnam – can grow without too much water. 64815

A perspetiva macro permite apreciar a beleza e a complexidade dessas pequenas criaturas.

In a small corner of humus, two little snails (+/- 5mm) were engaged in a curious ritual orchestrated by Nature. A strange dance: in a synchronized rotating slide, their two bodies interwoven exchanged their genetic capital in order to allow the continuity of the species. The strangest thing is that both of them fertilize each other and they will bear the eggs, fruit of their union.

a favorite of mine, humus base with a pine nut and spice mix (lemon juice, 1/4 cup olive oil, tahini, garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and crushed peppercorns) dipped with black bean chips and a drop of green chili sauce.

How do I do this??

Minute amounts of water, windfall samples - organic and mineral - are collected from the very landscape depicted within each picture - and chemically bonded with the film over 12 months. The result: a developed film and unedited, printed images that are somewhere between a classic photograph and a totally abstract image, depicting the interaction between fundamental chemical elements present at each place & time, representing a more visceral and literal experience of being present in landscapes in a constant state of natural or unnatural flux.
