I've been getting some really nice stretches of free time the past couple of days so that I can sit out on my little patio and enjoy whatever Nature chooses to show me. A doe and her fawn pass by nearly every day. Three wild Tom Turkeys stroll through and then there are the antics of the Hummers! It's a family affair with an adult male and female and a juvenile. The male has staked out his claim to the feeder on the side of the house, but the female and juvenile go at each other constantly over the other one. It's fun to try to capture them in fight and flight mode! Having said that, I think the two in this photo are the adults. They spent some moments chasing each other through the branches of my heat/drought stressed dogwood tree. Such a relaxing and blessed way to spend some free hours, despite the heat! I've had to turn off both the fountain in the pond (water level got too low to run the pump!) and my little waterfall feature. I'm thinking of ways to put out a little water for the hummers......

I have not had many hummers in my yards this summer. I think the dry beginning had an influence on this. I did take a few minutes outside the other day and was able to capture this female gathering nectar from the flowers in my yard. I really enjoy seeing them at work.

Thanks for looking,

Susan

This is the first time I was able to capture a photo of a humming bird. I'm so proud of myself! Funny thing, humming birds look a lot like squirrels.

Happy Furry Friday !

Photo taken near Deary, Idaho while camping about 20 miles from this sight.

Pretty sure I caught the juvenile. Mama yelled & yelled as he sat on the edge of the feeder, posing for me so nicely!

Another 'lucky... was in the right place at the right time' shot. I was standing right by the hummingbird feeder on the first day of September last year, taking pics of the yellow jackets and bees drinking the sugar water nectar from it, when all of a sudden this hummingbird flew up to it, right in front of me.

I WAS SOOO EXCITED!!! I squelched down the excitement *just enough* to click away like crazy.

Most of the shots weren't any good, a couple were 'OK', and then there was this one. I cried when I

saw it.

I wasn't sure when I was going to post this, and then I just decided that this was the shot I wanted to start the new year with.

Hummingbirds dining at the feeder.

I just love these little birds and I spent all day trying to capture a decent photo of one. I took over 300 shots, not all of hummingbirds, but a large portion of them were. I had a problem with the exposure, because against the sky, all I got was a silhouette. I finally figured out I needed to use the flash......viola....that worked like a charm!!

Here are 3 I wanted to share with you.....just be thankful I didn't bore you with ALL of them!! lol

This morning my backyard was a freeway for the hummers... I think they were happy the rain had stopped and it was nice and clean outside. = )

Everytime I sat at my daugher's dining room table this bird appeared outside the window. By the time I got my camera, it was gone. The last day I did capture this image
