The arrival of the German Chancellor as described by William L. Shirer in 'The Collapse of the Third Republic';
Adolf Hitler, at the moment of his greatest triumph, was in a truculent and arrogant mood as he arrived at the little clearing in the woods at Rethondes at 3:15 pm on June 21. To dictate an armistice in this historic place was sweet revenge for the man who had been a lowly corporal in the army that had been forced to give up in 1918, and he did not hide his feelings. Standing a few feet away, I saw his face light up, successively, with hate, scorn, revenge, triumph as he strode to the little marble block that marked the spot where Foch's wagonlit had stood in 1918.
General Keitel read a declaration written by Hitler explaining why this place had been chosen for the talks, to efface once and for all by an act of reparative justice a memory which was resented by the German people as the greatest shame of all time.

Look at poor ol' Cocoa's expression. It's one of pain (emotional), distress, and utter humiliation.
Look at her ear, it's all bent over. Audrey's drawstring is practically blinding the poor dog.
But, through it all Cocoa never complained. She simply endures the treatment by her beloved family.
I found a wound on Mari last week that looked like a puncture (don't know from what, hope it's not a dog bite, a shepard did go after her a couple of weeks ago but never saw that she was bitten) and it's not healing. However, she's licking it. So until I can take her to the vet, I got this for her. She sat just like this for almost an hour. I finally took it off. Now she won't get off of my lap. It breaks my heart.

In the wake of its humiliating defeat at the hands of Prussia in 1870, the French Third Republic sought to reinvigorate notions of heroism and citizenship. To this end, in 1884 the city council of Calais commissioned Rodin to create a monument to Eustache de Saint-Pierre. In 1347, while Calais was under siege by the English, Eustache and five other important citizens of the town had offered themselves as hostages, pleading for mercy for their long-suffering city.
In his first maquette of 1884, Rodin proposed a conventional monument, with his figures united as a group on a tall pedestal. By the following year, however, the six figures were placed on a low rectangular plinth, at the same level as the viewer. As Rodin later wrote: "I wanted to have my statues placed in front of the Calais city hall on the very paving of the square like a living rosary of suffering and sacrifice."
Rodin first made nude figure studies, which he then draped in wet canvas to model the sackcloth worn by the burghers when they surrendered. To create the expressive figures possible, he used the radical technique of combining studies of hands and feet from different figures. Creating the very antithesis of conventional heroic sculpture, Rodin here set out the terms of a modern, anti-monumental tradition that resonates to this day.

The Armistice Clearing at Compiègne: Memorial de la Clairiére de L'Armistice.

The Armistice that brought to an end the greatest war in history, was signed on November 11, 1918, on this exact spot in the forest of Compiègne. The clearing did not exist at that time and the full-grown trees were so thick that aerial observation was impossible.
The two railway tracks that ran across here were part of a gunnery trail system branching off from Rethondes station a mile away and could be used for heavy gun platforms.
The train bringing the German plenipotentiaries from Tergnier, where they had boarded it after driving from La Chapelle, arrived at day-break on November 8 for the encounter.
The quiet seclusion of the forest seemed more suitable for such an occasion than his (Marshal Ferdinand Foch) General Headquarters.
The clearing was laid out and inaugurated in 1922 and between 1927 and June 1940 the carriage was housed in it's own museum building.
On the same site as in 1918 the carriage was used by the German and French delegates who met to sign the armistice of June 22, 1940 which marked the end of the Campaign of France.
Restoration of the clearing, the monuments and the museum was undertaken at the end of the Second World War (1939 - 1945) to establish a permanent commemoration of this significant historic site.
There are certainunruly feelings in of which temptation is the strongest one. It always tries to lead a man towards selfishness. When grown unmanageable it drags one’s mind from the original seat of virtue and leads one to move in wilderness ----- in the region of false, illegal or uncertain hopes. Temptation in a mind acts like a piece of iron near some powerful magnet. It aims and jumps on an object from which it cannot free itself.
Temptation alone is sufficient to destroy the moral excellence of man. It misleads an individual or a nation by making the individual or the nation mad to process the belongings of others. It is also responsible for many a catastrophe, devastation, blood-shed, disaster, humiliation and danger which at times claim a heavy tool of human life and property. It also threatens the very existence of many other species --- essential for maintaining nature’s balance.
In this world of good and evil, virtue and vice, greed and avarice there must be temptation; but one should not yield to it. Moreover, how can a man develop the strength of his character if he is not confronted with temptation? Man is composed of animality and rationality but he cannot root out the one for the improvement of the other. In his physical side he is equipped with hard, soft and delicate organs while the varieties of feelings such as the fierceness of a tiger, meekness of a lamb, neatness of cat, dirtiness of a pig, cleverness of a fox, foolishness of a turtle etc., wonderfully associate in him. The passions, impulses and emotions are given to him definitely for fulfilling some useful purpose provided those are allowed to work within a desirable limit. But the total killing of passions would seriously affect his growth and progress. For instance, we cannot improve our mental faculty by denying our physical side. And how can there be rationality in absence of animality? We know that fruit is the final outcome of a seed; but the fruit cannot grow without the flower and flower cannot come without the leaves and so on. Similarly, the growth of spirituality is based on morality and morality arises from passion. Do we not find that vanity gives rise to humility, hatred to love, jealousy to sympathy and enmity to friendship only when those are kept under proper control? Therefore, a man should keep a balance of his passions in order to get a good result.
The controlling of a passion increases the strength of mind. As soon as temptation vibrates the mind, it should be arrested and sent back to its prison hole so that the mind is not tossed with the waves of uneasiness. This power can be acquired by gradual steps. As for example, if you find some valuables lying on the road, never be tempted to have them. Because, those are decidedly the product of some body’s tear and toil. You will do well if you can put them under the care of some competent authority for their proper disposal. But you need not keep them and run after the owner by wasting a sufficient length of time.
On the other hand, if this feeling is allowed to play without any restriction and thus secures for itself an upper hand, it will make one not only low in the estimation of others but will lead one to misery and destruction. This fact may be well understood from the following instances mentioned below.
1. A man withtemptation was once travelling in a railway train. He was sitting in a compartment amidst the uncompromising passengers; --- some of whom were enjoying a reward of lying at full length while others were paying a heavy penalty by keeping themselves standing. This particular man was rather neutral, sitting between the two extreme situations. During its journey, the train was stopping at some station to pick up new passengers and also for dropping the intending ones. This man noticed that a passenger boarded their compartment, at some intermediate station, with a new steel trunk of remarkable size, but left the train in the next station without taking back his trunk which was kept on the bunk of the carriage. The train was running on and on. People opened their trunks and suitcases to have their useful things, but this man was occupied with the thought of taking possession of the deserted trunk. He was tempted to make a good fortune out of the contents of the trunk.
At last, the trainreached a border station where some police-men boarded the compartments for checking the suspected packages. During their checking period, the man was fully absorbed in himself with deep thought, and the subject matter of his thought was, when he would find himself as the owner of the trunk --- without the possession of which there would come no rest nor respite to his heart. The police-men after censoring some packages , touched the steel trunk and said in a strong voice, “Whom does this belong?” This question startled the man as he was not ready for the answer. Still; his voice automatically came out to meet the question, “Yes, that’s mine.”
Police-men, “Please open it and show us its contents.” The man replied in a feeble voice, “Sorry, the key has been lost a short time ago.”
Such unexpected reply aroused suspicion in their mind and they compelled him to follow them along with the trunk to their H.QS. When the trunk was opened in presence of some high ranking personnel’s, a horrible sight presented itself, --- the dead-body of a man sliced into several pieces were kept in it. This unexpected and awful sight attacked the man with violent fear, and he rained abundant tears which could not save him from tasting the bitter fruit of punishment, as prescribe by law.
2. One there was an animal with half a dozen mouths, each for securing food from different directions, but the stomach was only one at the centre. One pleasant afternoon, when he was wondering in quest of food, a particular mouth---the first one chanced upon a sweet fruit. “Oh, how fine and delicious it is!” said he to the remaining ones while chewing it and continued, “Never was my tongue contacted with such a sweet thing which beggars all description.”
On his such utterance, the other four mouths congratulated him for his gain; as member of the same family ought to do. But the last one, out of the sway of strong temptation, begged hard for a share of it from the first one thus, “Give me a little bit of it to taste;-- my friend.” The first one smiled and said, “We are too many to share this little thing. Though we look different but are we not all same? What will be our special gain if we taste it separately when the stomach is common? He again repeated his request but when he could not prevail upon the first mouth to comply with his request, he considered himself neglected as well as insulted and said, “Alright, I will teach you a good lesson in time.”
One day, accidentally, the last mouth came across a deadly poisonous fruit, took it close to his mouth and declared his intention of swallowing it, in order to gratify his vengeance against the first mouth. On the strength of this powerful thing, he straightway threatened this rival thus, “Now suffer for your refusal, idiot; I wish I had pull your tongue out which had alone enjoyed that sweet fruit. I must kill you at, “Once by having this fruit.”
His such terrible utterance greatly alarmed the remaining mouths who persuaded him to excuse his rival for the safety of them all. But their joint appeal produced no effect; because his sense of revenge was more than his sense of forgiveness and he wanted to recover his lost prestige by the most vigorous measure of revenge. Thus he turned a deaf ear to their entreaties and put the fruit down to his throat. As a result, instantaneous death put an end to their unhappy career and the animal became a tale of old.

4/1 Pops surprised everyone when he completely humiliated nightmare by dominating him from start to 4 minute finish. He could have won several times after the 1 minute mark but chose to punish nightmare for his cocky attitude before the match
4/2 unexpectdly cap was decimated by the power and speed of pops who established that he likes to drag matches out long after he has defeated his opponent by foregoing pins and just beating his opponent cap silly
4/3 bw's wionning streak came to a screeching halt when he was destroyed by the aggressive pops. he was taken out of the ring unconscious after he sufferred for 5 minutes when he was obviously beaten after only 2
4/4 pops gave the biker a lesson in pain and respect when he defeated teh arrogant tough quite easily and then beat him bloody before scoring a 1 fingered pin on the pre-match trash talker
4/5 with clinical prescision bb was taken apart body part by body part when he was destroyed by pops
4/6 pops showed that he too had impressive boxing skills when he knocked out trucker and scored the victory
4/champ in a site never before seen pops dominated teh champion. davids power and experience never came into play as the ferocious pops took charge right away and never relinquished it. he pulled david up from a sure 3 count 7 times before he finally used david's own signature torture rack to force the champion to submit.
throughout their 5 minute match david never made any offensive moves beyond the first minute. he was helpless against the monster who enjoyed humiliating him and making him look like a jobber.
after the match david said that he would definitely learn from the defeat and be better the next time they fought

5/4 in a deliberately humiliating match pops desrtoyed angel and pinned him using only one finger
5/5 matt was easily put away by the ferocious pops. after the match pops said that he couldnt wait to fight david again
5/champ for the first minute this match looked like it would be a vewry close contest. however when pops connected with a right cross to david's jaw the former champion never recovered. Pops beat him relentlessly and over and over yelled at the prostrate david YOU WERE SUPOSED TO LEARN FROM OUR LAST MATCH AND GIVE ME A BETTER FIGHT
he even seemed angry that he was controlling david so easily and that came out in the viscious beating he gave to david.
David left the ring covered in blood and unconscious after pops finally put a foot on davids heaving chest and allowed the ref to count to 3. He shook his head in disappointment the whole time.
6/1 even though he fought them both at the same time pops still scored an almost effortless victory over both matz and beast. He powerslammed beast onto a disabled matz and then pinned both of them at the same time in only 3 minutes 12 seconds
6/2 even though he faced them at the same time pops easily did away with both benji and buff. he pinned buff by sitting on his chest while he put benji in a sleeper hold
6/3 trip made a surprisingly poor showing of himself when he was completely dominated by pops
6/4 once again pops humiliated angel
6/5 pops continued his winning ways by defeating scott milne quite easily. afterwards he did say that he hoped scott trained harder cause he might actually give him a challenge one day
6/champ: for the 1st time ever pops had a very tough match with david. Noone had ever been even a challenge to pops. Every match he dominated from the start and never was in a position where it even looked like he was on the defensive.
David showed that he had learned alot from his previous beatings at pops' hands. for the 1st time in all the times he had faced pops he actually put up an offensive and pops definitely was on the defensive alot.
However despite making a better showing for himself david still lost this match to pops. However after he submitted to pops both men got up and shook hands.
Pops looked ecstatic after the match and told reporters. I cant wait to see how much better he is the next time we fight. That was awesome and I want more.
7/1 bw was quiclky dispatched by pops in this 3 way match. Popps knocked him out at 35 seconds then got bic to submit at 1 minute 35 seconds
