Here in the southwestern US we get very low humidity most of the year. So, we use an Evaporation Cooler or Swamp Cooler to cool our homes in the hot months. This contraption is like a huge humidifier. Our old cooler went south so we had to get a new one. Our handyman Dave spent the last few days installing it. It sure is nice, it is so quiet compared to the old one that was seized up with minerals and clunked very loudly. This summer will be nice since I can turn this one up high and be nice and cool!

I keep a pan of water on my steam heated radiator to humidify the dry air. It might work better if they actually ran the heat more than once a day. My apartment averages 68 degrees, but I'm most comfortable at 75 and above, and yet the winters before I moved here these apartments were always stiflingly hot (in a good way). It figures.
