The cat (Felis catus), also known as the domestic cat or housecatto distinguish it from other felines and felids, is a small carnivorous mammal that is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin and household pests. It has been associated with humans for at least 9,500 yearsand is currently the most popular pet in the world.A skilled predator, the cat is known to hunt over 1,000 species for food. It can be trained to obey simple commands. Individual cats have also been known to learn on their own to manipulate simple mechanisms, such as doorknobs and toilet handles.Cats use a variety of vocalizations and types of body language for communication, including meowing, purring, trilling, hissing, growling, squeaking, chirping, clicking, and grunting. They are also bred and shown as registered pedigree pets. This hobby is known as cat fancy.Until recently the cat was commonly believed to have been domesticated in ancient Egypt, where it was a cult animal. A study in 2007 found that the lines of descent of all house cats probably run through as few as five self-domesticating African Wildcats (Felis silvestris lybica) circa 8000 BC, in the Near East. The earliest direct evidence of cat domestication is a kitten that was buried with its owner 9,500 years ago in Cyprus.

Neolithic human skull. This fossil skull was found during the construction of the docks at Preston, Lancashire, on the River Ribble, UK, in the period 1885 to 1892. This skull and other finds had been thought to be from the Bronze Age, but research at Liverpool John Moores University in 2002 established new dates. It is now thought that the finds date from a wider period of time, from the late neolithic around 6000 years ago, up to Anglo-Saxon times as recently as 1000 years ago.

This pen and ink drawing is a patterned interpretation of the human heart playing with the lines and shapes of this complex organ.

A few months ago a friend of mine asked me to submit photos for a gallery she was hosting. The aim of the gallery was to bring awareness to human trafficking, auction off the prints and give the proceeds to charity. I hear they raised over $3000!

For inspiration I went to MTV exit and watched their online videos.

Hey It's my first human head It took me a lot of time to do the modeling but I'm pretty happy of what I've done

Bet it';s the humans who pay.

When Google Street View became widely used, I began to wonder what, if anything, many of my photos added to what anyone could view online.

In fact, Google has a several advantages?

It lets you take a virtual stroll along Blue Boar Street. (And millions of streets around the world.)

During the stroll you can stop and take a 360° view looking up or down. And if there's old street-level imagery from StreetView archives you can see how an area changes over time.

You can even go inside some buildings. In this case the adjacent Oxford Town Hall - photographed by Neil Scowcroft.

Perhaps what the Google cars lack is human legs, eyes, arms, imagination and feelings. And maybe some respect and affection for the people and what they do and make.

I assume Google are working on all of these.

The urgency to address human rights in North Korea has never been greater as the international community marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in North Korea. Nearly a decade after its creation and subsequent report, the Commission of Inquiry was a breakthrough on detailing North Korea’s human rights violations and raising public awareness. Despite North Korea’s missile tests continuing to make headlines, the international community must not forget the dire human rights situation in the country. What role does civil society and NGOs play in advocating on behalf of North Korean human rights? How can civil society in conjunction with governments help revitalize and sustain North Korean human rights advocacy? How have local and global politics affected the direction of human rights advocacy on North Korea?

On April 20, the Center for East Asia and Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution, Committee on Human Rights in North Korea, and North Korea Freedom Coalition will host Ambassador Shin-wha Lee, for an interactive discussion on North Korean human rights issues.
