Human Shields - Fear Factory
--
Five years ago, a friend of mine was killed in the 2002 Bali bombings. He was only twenty two years old - he had so much to live for. He was a kind, friendly, quiet, funny young man who had the world at his feet. He played football, he was about buy his own business and he was applying to become a firefighter.
When the bombs went off, he couldn't be found. Two days later they discovered his body among the rubble. The day they found him is a day I'll never forget. But with the support of the people around me (mainly Kel - I love you) the pieces fit together again. I've probably pushed it all down somewhere deep inside me, but it's there, like a gentle warm glow in the corner. It'll never go away, and honestly I don't want it to.
The world has changed as a result of their loss, and there are days when I feel sad about what we're left to deal with. We can never be the same society we once were. But I take comfort in the little things we do still have, and in the fact that those who were killed no longer have to face the fear and uncertainty we now do. Wars can't beat these forces. Our resolve to not be victims of the hatred and ignorance is what will make the world a better place to live. Embrace our differences and accept everything we all give to the world. We can learn so much from everyone if we just accept and respect each other.
Josh, wherever you are, I hope you're safe and warm, and that you're keeping out of trouble. I'll see you again one day for that beer you promised me.
If you would like to read a little bit about him and the effect his death had, read this article.
This is an older photo that I recently found had never been uploaded here.

I looooove the netherlands label humanoid. But mostly cannot afford something from them, so I tried to design a knitted coat in their mind ... love the result!
This is a candid of an old man engrossed in doing something as simple as cutting the nails of his feet. While I was pretending to take snaps of still lives in the room, I took this candid. Later when I showed him, he liked the the way he looks here. He was a one-time photographer himself some forty years ago. His name is Sisir Kumar Roy. I have heard a lot of stories from him of photography in post-independence days. How cameras were and how hours went by processing pictures, enlarging them, merging pictures.

"We have enslaved the rest of animal creation and have treated our distant cousins in fur, feathers and scales so badly that beyond doubt, if animals were to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form."

Funny and maybe NSFW graffiti on one of the walls. You see this guy is actually on a leash that runs round the corner and end in the ends of two dogs that walk like men.
