The Human Revolt
"This history, in part, I knew already... How, as the Vampires began to die out, the Pillars summoned human Guardians to fulfill their roles. No he venido hasta aquà únicamente para acompañar a la persona que amo. La finalidad principal ha sido la de volver a VIVIR, y volver a hacerlo como mejor sé y mejor engullo el aire: contando historias.

Kolkata is the only city in the world that still allows the rikshawrunners. Often skinny elderly barefeet man are pulling the rikshaws by their hands over the crowded streets of Kolkata. There are 20000 people which earn 2-5 dollars a day with this job. They are called human horses.
The Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History is running an exhibit on the Human Genome and this mannequin was on display showing genetic markers all over her body. Between the silvery skin, cut-outs, and illuminated code I thought it was a very striking image.
Update: My mannequin image was used in a Quebecois (French Canadian) article about How genetics play a role in homosexuality. I glanced through the article and from what I could pick up (I used to be fairly conversant in French but I never learned scientific words and phrases; example, when was the last time you heard the term "Uranium Hexaflorite" come up in conversation?) it was an interesting read between genetic disposition and environmental factors determining heterosexuality against homosexuality.
UPDATE 2: The makers of the mannequin, Evidence Design left a comment asking if I could tag my photo. A fair request and done! :-)
UPDATE 3: The magazine, Fast Company, posted an article on how biotech firms battle over who owns genetic data. I liked the article as it brought to light something I've suspected someone would try do at some point - discovery of cancerous genes cannot be patented so the information on how to detect these genes should be shared between businesses (for cancer detection) and research facilities (how best to combat these genes). If you're the only company who has a way to detect a certain gene, you become the only game in town when it comes in discovering if you have the gene and/or it's gone cancerous. Early detection is the key to beating most cancers.
UPDATE 4: Wow, a lot of folks really seem to like my photo of the DNA mannequin. Another company Open Genetics has placed it as the background image for a lot of its webpages.

UPDATE 6: This photo was featured in a University of Cambridge Research article on Algorithm matches genetic variation to disease symptoms and could improve diagnosis of rare diseases (published 19 April 2017). I'm still amazed at the places I find my photos popping up. Both humbling and an ego boost.
UPDATE 7: I was contacted by a professor from the University of Barcelona. She had a journalism student writing about genetic diseases and wanted my permission to use this image for her article Un Benelux poco frecuente. (published 3 May 2018)

the ''Human'' exhibition is on at Fort Belvedere, Florence, until end of September 2015. He is of course quite well known in UK for ''Angel of the North'' and the larger than life human statues that look out to sea along the coast. Living near the YSP I am quite used to looking at modern art in all it's forms now. it was certainly getting some attention. Great view from here too. Summer 2015. Tuscany, Italy.
Finally Complete!
I abandoned my idea of restringing using beading elastic and broke down and got the muscle body repair kit from Cotswold. I'd still like to try that restringing experiment at some other time perhaps. My Bullet Man is mostly vintage, only his hands, emblem and belt (courtesy of Adventurer Josh!) are new. I was originally painting his arms in a chrome paint that better matched his helmet, but after going through 3 cans of the stuff and winding up with small bubbles in the paint app and finding that parts of it never seemed to be completely dry even after letting it sit for several days, I gave up. The silver looks pretty cool, was a milion times easier to work with (it actually dries in minutes and goes on smoothly!) and matches the silver KFG style hands from Castaway Toys better anyway.
With this figure I now have figures to represent all the members of the original 70's Adventure Team.
The Gowanus Canal is a 1.8-mile-long canal in Brooklyn. Once a vital cargo transportation hub, the canal has seen decreasing use since the mid-20th century, parallel with the decline of domestic waterborne shipping. By the end of the 19th century, heavy industrial use had caused large amounts of pollutants to drain into the Gowanus Canal. By the 1990s, it was recognized as one of the most polluted bodies of water in the United States. There was no through-flow of water and the canal was open at only one end, in the hope that the tides would be enough to flush the waterway. But with the canal's wooden and concrete embankments, the strong tides of fresh oxygenated water from New York Harbor were barred from flowing into the channel. Canal has pollution with high ratios of fecal coliforms, deadly proportions of pathogens, and a low concentration of oxygen, it is generally seen as incompatible with marine life. Various attempts to remove the pollution or dilute the canal's water have failed. There is an urban legend that the canal served as a dumping ground for the Mafia. Some cases are on record: news reports state that in the 1930s and 1940s bodies were found in the Gowanus canal. In 1998 documentary film about the canal, two New York City police discussed the then-recent discovery of a suitcase containing human body parts that was taken from the waterway by fishermen. In Jonathan Lethem's Motherless Brooklyn (1999), a character refers to the canal as "the only body of water in the world that is 90 percent guns".
