Benjamin was born on 22 February 1883 and died at sea on 16 November 1916.
In the 1901 Census Benjamin was living with his parents and other members of his family at East Bank - he was a gritstone mason. By the 1911 Census he was still living with his family in Winster. His widowed mother was the head of the family which included Benjamin's two brothers George Thomas and Albert and his two sisters Louisa and Gertrude Ellen. In 1911 Benjamin was working on a farm on his own account - the farm was probably his mother's.
There is a short summary of Benjamin's war service at p 241 of Keith Taylor's "Winster, Bonsall, Elton & Birchover Remembered" published in 2009 by Ashridge Press/Country Books ISBN 978-1-906789-18-3.
There was a memorial service for Benjamin on 30 November 1916 in Winster Church conducted by the Rev. T. Johnson which was reported in Winster Parish Magazine for January 1917. In the same issue an obituary was included. The Parish Magazines for this period have been deposited at Derbyshire Record Office.
Benjamin's name is recorded on the Doiran Memorial, Kilkis, Greece according to the Find A Grave Web Site.

Hugo Weaving Total Film interview, September 2014 issue. (Questions are all quotes taken from movies, which gets old pretty quick IMHO, though in this case the interviewee's charm wins the day). Hugo discusses Mystery Road, which opens in the UK August 2014, as well as his famous past roles and... dancing. ;)
