Large on black canvas | My favorite shots
Location: Along a fishing-lake at Haren-Ems (Emsland) Germany.
Description: Taken this morning while I was driving somewhere near the city Haren, when I noticed a large (sport-fishing) lake on the right side of the road. Initially I wanted to take some shots of this lake together with these thick cloud formation. But when I looked at the right side along this lake, I noticed these streamlined sky that seemed like a vein of heaven. So, I mounted the camera on my Manfrotto, made some shots, with different f-stops, from a low-angled position. When I got home, I was really surprised about how the sky eventually turned out: it was exactly what I had in mind, but it wasn't quite noticeable on spot with the relatively little LCD-display and bright low-angled morning sunlight.
Exposure: 3 brackets of -2 Ev, +/-0 Ev and +2 Ev at f/8, securely mounted on a Manfrotto 190.
Technique: HDR Tone Mapping & PS color and contrast enhancements.

Kōko-en (好古園) is a Japanese garden located next to Himeji Castle in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.
It was constructed in 1992 at the site of the lord's west residence, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Himeji municipality. In 2017, Koko-en signed a sister garden agreement with Ro Ho En, the Japanese Friendship Garden, in its sister city, Phoenix, Arizona.
The garden is about 3.5 hectares and has nine different gardens.
Another picture from Lulworth taken on my road trip to Dorset on Monday. The light there was mesmerising as I lined this shot up along the coast, I knew that I wanted to slow my shutter speed down so I put a 10 second Filter on giving me a shutter speed of 25 secs at f/9.

It has been a while since I posted my last ones....catching up now my friends.
This is one from my recent trip with Glen to Moreton Island where we were witnessing a great natural spectacle. Do I really need to say anything here.....just look at this landscape and soak it in. It is a large tidal pool where we enjoyed the silence and absence of civilisation.

A 'terril' is a hill made from mining waste. There are still a lot of them in the old mining regions like Mons, now being appreciated as green areas.
I've used a ND1000 filter in order to have an 'evening effect' even if the sun was high in the sky.
This is NOT a tone-mapped HDR but a digital blending of 3 exposures. The main exposure was of 30 sec.

The first sunbeams in the morning are reaching the rocks and peak, the clouds are clearing up.
The grassland region to the northeast of Tro La pass-4864m (or Cho La Pass) is known as Yilhun.Here two rivers,the Tro(Cho)-chu and Dzenu-chu drain from the Trola Range to form the Yi-chu,a fast-flowing tributary of the Nyag chu ཉག་ཆུ་ (Yalong). Here I visited the sacred glacial lake of Yilhun Lha Tso-4110m,situated some 30km below the Tro La pass. This lake is one of the most beautiful in all Tibet བོད. Its shores bedecked with colossal carved mani stones, many of which are the work of a local stone carver named Trador. The mountains and rocks surrounding the lake are said to assume the divine form of the Cakrasamvara mandala to those who have the pure vision to perceive them as such.
_______________________________________________________________________________ Yilhun Lhatso Nature Reserve (190 sq km), extending from the lakeshore as far as the jagged snow peaks of the Trola range to the south, is a natural habitat for176 species of wild animals, including the red deer (cervus albirostris), the snow-leopard, the argali, the red fox and various birds of prey. the flora of the reserve include distinctive azaleas, dragon spruce(Picea asperata),cypresses and the snow lotus སྤྱང་དུག་པ changdukpa (Sasssurea laniceps ) .
The Nomads of these upper valleys supplement their income by collecting caterpillar fungus for Chinese medicinal consumption.

Vlkolínec, situated in the centre of Slovakia, is a remarkably intact settlement of 45 buildings with the traditional features of a central European village. It is the region’s most complete group of these kinds of traditional log houses, often found in mountainous areas. Vlkolínec is small community part of the town of Ružomberok. It was historically referred to as a street of Ružomberok, yet is situated about 7 kilometres from the town itself, in the mountains of the northern part of central Slovakia. It is a remarkably well preserved rural medieval settlement featuring wooden architecture typical of hillside and mountain areas. Its layout, defined in part by the hilly terrain of the mountains of Veľká Fatra, features log houses situated on narrow lots with stables, barns and smaller outbuildings in the rear. A canalized stream flows through the centre of the village. The surrounding landscape is formed by narrow strips of fields and pastures with haylofts.

Vlkolínec has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993, and is one of ten Slovak villages that have been given the status of a folk architecture reservations. Originally it was the settlement of loggers, shepherds and farmers.
Vlkolínec – in het midden van Slowakije – is een opmerkelijk intact gebleven nederzetting met gebouwen kenmerkend voor een centraal Europees dorp. De huizen worden gebouwd op stenen funderingen, de muren bedekt met klei en vervolgens wit of blauw geschilderd. Er zijn 47 van dit soort traditionele woningen in Vlkolínec en daarmee de meest volledige groep van dit soort traditionele Slowaakse houten huizen, die vaak voorkomen in bergachtige gebieden. Naast de traditionele woningen staan er in het plaatsje een winkel en school uit het einde van de 19e eeuw en de kerk van de Heilige Maagd Maria uit 1875, met een belfort gebouwd in 1770. Vlkolínec staat sinds 1993 op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO omdat het dorp, onaangetast is door de moderne tijd.

Las columnas de la nave central.

Gaudí evolucionó de un primer proyecto gótico hacia un estilo personal, orgánico, inspirado en las formas de la naturaleza: para librarse de los contrafuertes góticos, ideó el uso de columnas en forma de tronco de árbol, que permiten descargar el peso de las cubiertas directamente en el suelo, solución práctica a la vez que estética, ya que convierte el interior de las naves del templo en un espacio orgánico que semeja un bosque. En 1987 se inició la cimentación de las naves; para 1997 se completaron las bóvedas laterales y se empezó la central.
El templo tiene planta de cruz latina, con cinco naves de 90 metros de longitud, y crucero de tres naves de 60 metros; la nave central tiene un ancho de 15 metros, y 7,5 las laterales, haciendo un total de 45 metros; ancho del crucero, 30 metros. La altura es de 45 metros en las bóvedas de la nave central y 30 en las laterales, mientras que las del cimborio central llegarán a los 60 metros. Las naves laterales contendrán las cantorías para los coros. El ábside es lobulado, con deambulatorio entorno del presbiterio. El templo contará con un total de 36 columnas, que oscilarán entre 11,10 y 22,20 metros de altura, con bases de polígonos estrellados de varios lados según su ubicación: 6 (naves laterales), 8 (nave central), 10 (torres de los Evangelistas), 12 (torre de Jesús). Los materiales de construcción varían de la piedra de Montjuïc al granito, basalto o pórfido.

The church plan is that of a Latin cross with five aisles. The central nave vaults reach 45 meters while the side nave vaults reach 30 meters. The transept has 3 aisles. The columns are on a 7.5 meter grid however the columns of the apse, resting on del Villar's foundation, do not adhere to the grid, requiring a section of columns of the ambulatory to transition to the grid thus creating a horseshoe pattern to the layout of those columns. The crossing rests on the four central columns of porphyry supporting a great hyperboloid surrounded by two rings of 12 hyperboloids (currently under construction). The central vault reaches 60 meters. The apse will be capped by a hyperboloid vault reaching 75 meters. Gaudi intended that a visitor standing at the main entrance be able to see the vaults of the nave, crossing, and apse, thus the graduated increase in vault loftiness.
The columns of the interior are a unique Gaudi design. Besides branching to support their load, their ever-changing surfaces are the result of the intersection of various geometric forms. The simplest example is that of a square base evolving into an octagon as the column rises, then a 16-sided form, and eventually to a circle. This effect is the result of a three-dimensional intersection of helicoidal columns (for example a square cross-section column twisting clockwise and a similar one twisting counter-clockwise).
