Cut along the fold lines from the outside, toward the center. stop when you reach your mark from the previous step.
After the cut, the piece is exactly 12". You can argue if it's a thousandth or three off in either direction, but if it is - if you really have some problem with how the cut came out, you can adjust the little screw on the stop to dial in much tighter increments than the 1/32" of the teeth.

As a test of repeatability, I changed the stop from making 12" cuts to 8" cuts - which took ~10 seconds, and cut 2 sections from a longer piece - about 30 seconds, taking my time to get clean cuts. They're so close to each other in length, they seem to have been cut simultaneously. Awesome.
*** You may wish to cover the spine piece in card stock before gluing the book cloth down.***
!!! Spread the glue out with a paintbrush! Do not attach with globs! It may show through !!!
I've seen a few posts showing how to cut a watermelon by slicing the rind off and then chopping it up. I finally tried it and I like it! It's a lot safer and quicker than the way I had been doing it, which was to slice it in half, cut it into slices and then cut the watermelon from each slice. Yay, Internet!
I had a set of poi that I purchased at a workshop. The problem... they are too long for me to work with, the cord gets tangled up on itself, the finger holds give me rope burn. I really like them but... they give me grief.
Decided to make my own following directions on one of the poi videos. Now I am sharing with you.
