We found this in the second level of an antique store in Old Town. It had to be at least three feet long from front to back, with amazing detail. And you pay for the detail. Gorgeous, though.

That has led to land alienation and eroded land reform. Oalits are known to muster resources for payment of dowry by selling off land they won through reform.' .
The article quotes research by Praveena Kodoth In Economic and Political Weekly. (June 18-24, 2005) which, it says, 'reveals that land reform movements in Bengal and Kerala have failed to address the qendered modes of power and social relations. It shows how participation of women in rural (farm) work across social groups in Bengal and Kerala has. in the long term, declined due to land reform.' Mandai Rebuff The data is damning: females, especially of lower castes and tribes are very poorly represented in the workfcm.e in Kerala and Bengal compared to the all-India totals. What does this mean? That t~ese women, no~ havmg a cash income of thei_r own. are therefore dependent on men. and are thus far worse off in these states than In the rest of lnd1at Other data m the same arttcle shows the trend worsening over time. This is woman-friendly reform? .

Sitting in our cozy rooms, we might never realize what being arefugee me~ns. Life sha!J be really kind to us if that happens,but there are people living in our vicinity in Delhi itself for whom life is not about 'good life' but 'mere life'. For whom, life is not about li'ilng bu1 surviving. .
We might never feel the pain that that they suffer, the agony that has become cardinal to their existence, but we can atleast stand in solkfarity in theirefforts to pretend that 'Life is Beautiful'. We can not walk for them, but we c.an lend them ahand to walk with us. And we cannot live their lives (God forbid anyone should!), but we can aUeast make them feel that they are 'living'. .
Let us showsolidarity with the people who are made to suffer in this ignominious way. Let us unite in the struggle against the hegemony that promotes and steers this massive human disaster. .
