Kitchen of a large house that we saw, close to downtown. Large kitchen with high ceilings would be a fun remodel job.
The area wasn't as nice as the Washington park area, but with lots of work this could be a great house. Collection of small problems and location made us pass on this. Also, weird garage placement in the backyard.
The cool thing was that door on the right. Servant's stairs, leading up to an unfinished area behind the master bedroom. That area could be turned into a library.
I'm sure this doesn't look very exiting, but I assure you that the rocking chair is fab. I'm buying a king size bed now, because a non-matress single is just not what I've gotten used to!
Probably used by the laundry machines. Bryan warned of potential sewer gas build up. Easy fix though, just pour water down every so often.
This is an example of a really interesting to us house. It is in a mature neighborhood but is new throughout. The realtor said that he works with a builder who takes old houses and refreshes them. Zillow.com indicated that this one was a 1/1 at 750 sq. ft. Now it is a 3/2 with at least 1200. The workmanship was the equivalent of a new house in the suburbs. The only indication that it is an old pier and beam structure (in the front) is the slight thump when you walk on the floors.

Maybe a "suburb" wouldn't be so bad. Maybe the girls would love this big fenced yard. Maybe we wouldn't have to worry about crime so much. Maybe a commute wouldn't kill me. Maybe it doesn't matter if the commute kills the environment. Maybe we are just typical lazy Americans. Maybe we don't need to solve the world's problems. Maybe we can leave some of them for someone else. Maybe we are just like everyone else who is leaving the cities to flounder and die. Maybe.
