Mammoth Hot Springs is so large that the upper level has a one-way paved auto tour. It was just the ticket at the end of a long day seeing the sights at Yellowstone National Park.
Mammoth Hot Springs is so large that the upper level has a one-way paved auto tour. It was just the ticket at the end of a long day seeing the sights at Yellowstone National Park.
Marvellous view during the day and the heavens open up at night. US highway 50 is off to the right. Hot water comes out of the ground here in the middle of the desert. It is a popular watering spot.
I shot some 4x5 Velvia here but haven't scanned it yet. You can see the equipment on the end of the bench. We camped overnight here on the hotsprings tour.
12-28-16 1:32PM - This is Travertine Hot Springs. Normally, the pools of water behind me is steaming hot, but a major 5.7 earthquake last night knocked the hot springs out of commission. It appears the fissures shifted down stream.
A wonderful natural hot springs with stunning views of the Eastern Sierras. A relaxing ending to our tired muscles after walking on the trails of the John Muir Wilderness.
Yes, clothes are optional. :D
