These brave men and 4,000 other men and women are currently fighting the Rim Fire; in and around Yosemite National Park. The fire has currently consumed over 300 square miles and is the largest wildfire in California history. I copied the following information from their homepage to give you a little insight of what these men are made of. Bless them all…..

Went out to do some foaming on my birthday, nothing special came by, and the one train that wasn't a gevo leader got blocked by another train (go figure), could've gone better I guess, but what can ya do right?

A Ljubljana and Koper bound hotshot freight from Villach and Salzburg, hauled by the 10,000 hp Siemens Taurus B-B motor 541-008, speeds in the September 2009 morning across the flatland at Žabnica, a village near Kranj, Slovenia. In the background, adorned by the autumn fog, are Karavanke (Karawanks), the easternmost range of the Alps, separating Slovenia from Austria.

Here is a video of the train switching in the wye, delivering a new yard engine and picking up the freight from the day before. This hotshot was delayed from the prior afternoon due to a slide on the line between Castlegar and Trail.

Fox River Valley Railorad Piggyback Hotshot (actually a slow moving freight) passing through Oshkosh Yard power by 4 ex. C&NW Geeps.

CP train 401 used to make its early morning appearance in the Sudbury area every Tuesday-Saturday back in the early 90's. It was THE hot train out of Toronto bound for Vancouver. A brace of SD40-2's was the usual power and on Tuesday May 5, 1992 I shot it screaming along near Geneva Lake west of Cartier with 5699, 5793 and 5505 leading just 28 cars of COFC/TOFC.

An NS SD70M and an NS Dash 9 bring a hotshot intermodal east through Pine Junction. This weather made it seem like a rainy November day rather than late May. 5/30/15

From running hotshot TOFCs on the EL mainline, to now working all sorts of jobs on CSAO. NS SD45 1703 is on BY-1 heading back lite to Bayway yard after dropping off cars at New York Terminals.

It seemed like an odd day to head out to photograph a train given what had happened only about three hours earlier, but photography has become a release for me from other stresses and I needed that today more than just about any other day. So, before I headed to Clemson to talk with my oldest son about the day's events, I took a few minutes and caught NS 203 highballing by a waiting NS 118 at Magnolia in Spartanburg, SC with a nice sunrise sky in the background. I guess the photo will always mean something special to me because of the day on which it was taken. And because I remember a morning many, many years ago that mom and dad took a young 5 year old to the nearby Krispy Kreme and then to that same depot at 3:00 a.m. (yes) to see a special train come through.. Feb. 23, 2020.

I just didn't shoot 912 very often after summer 1982 as it became an evening eastbound in our area. In the summer something could be done with it but in the remainder of the year it was dark or nearly dark when it arrived. The big goal was to have it into Soo Yard to grab the COFC and make it over to the CP in time to catch the after midnight departure of there 912 for St. Luc. This was shot on August 9, 1984 as 768 and 772 roll to a stop for the diamond at Trout Lake with 57 cars. After the cursory stop for the Ex DSS&A crossing it will be run 8 as they quickly accelerate back to 40mph for the last lap into Sault Ste. Marie. Kind of a different look with a little manifest up front including a few empty AC chip cars.
