While working in the garage at my parents' place, I heard "CPKC Tower B-17" talking to 181 about getting recrewed, and following Metra in from Elgin. With just about a 10 minute drive to the station, this gave me more than enough time to head on up and get the hottest train on the railroad in Hanover Park.
That being said, for being the hotshot Mexico City-Bensenville train that it is, they first got stuck behind Metra, and then had to wait for a 149 train to come out of the west end of Bensenville while at Wood Dale.
This particular edition of the train was led up by the KCS 4723 and another GE Belle. Recently, the train has been dragging a number of new CPKC Tier IV GE's up from the factory, but in this case, I had to settle for the 18 year-old GEVOs.
BNSF M-EVESUM, more famously known as the Sumas Turn, heads north for the namesake border town through Stanwood, WA. The lead GP60M with the trash containers behind them makes for a nice pretend throwback to when these engines would lead the hotshot intermodals across the deserts of the southwest & Midwest on the Santa Fe when they were new. 6-22-23

With the bottom having dropped out just north of White Oak, Marcus James and Ben Williams hustle 212 north with a trio of AC Motors.
Led by a pair of brand new GEs, a westbound Southern Pacific stack train highballs Rillito, Arizona in June 1988. The B39-8s were so new that many were running in consecutively numbered sets.
After living on the SP's Oregon Division, where most the trains were 40 MPH lumber drags, our visit to the Sunset Route was quite an eye-opener. On the Sunset, SP stood for "stacks and pigs."

Did some LE's of Orford Castle as well. The hills around the Keep are great when the light hits them. Will definitely be back here in future

More wet feet between Corton and Lowestoft in the morning light on Friday. I really need longer wellies.
NS 204 approaches the Spartanburg, SC Depot on Track 2 to await the southbound NS 203. Sept. 28, 2019.
On a chilly November morning, a westbound stack train rolls past a placid stock tank as it works its way up the Red Deer Creek valley west of Miami, Texas.
Southern Pacific's PTPCX is around two hours out of Portland's Brooklyn Yard as it crosses the Willamette River near Junction City, Oregon. The towers in the background are part of Burlington Northern's parallel bridge over the Willamette, which was built by Oregon Electric.
People line up in droves to watch the CP Holiday Train roll through every year. This year was no different - despite the company being rebranded, nearly the entire train still sported its classic Canadian Pacific attire. I tried a long exposure shot for this one as it rolled around the bend at Maitland Street in London, Ontario. If you look closely, you can see the headlight and ditchlights of CP #2246 through the festive lights of the train. This is only my second time doing long exposure of a train, so I hope to improve more in the future!

Headed to Redgrave Fen the other morning in the fog. It didn't really lift much so headed into the trees to get a few shots
Rock Island U33C 4584 departs Kelly Yard in Silvis, IL with a westbound hotshot.

Due to a bridge outage in Northern California, the ZBRLC is detouring over the LA&SL, and is seen here entering the Vegas Valley at Bard.
Another one Just after sunrise over the dunes at Winterton-On-Sea, prefer this viewpoint, was taken with B&W in mind, but can't bring myself to dismiss the lovely colour that was in the sky, so uploading the colour version first

The engineer of train No. 57 throttles up his SD40-2s as the train begins to climb the grade west of Waxdale.
The Rock Island locomotives belong to NAPM member Mike Sosalla; the freight cars belong to the club and are one of two auto parts trains which run during the club's operating sessions.

Long before the Meridian Speedway project KCS ran intermodal traffic over the L&A between Shreveport, LA and Dallas.
I don't remember the train numbers on these but here the eastbound pulls into Greenville, TX east of Dallas on Dec 8, 1989 for a crew change and probably some switching. Of interest is the freshly painted GP40-2/F7B Slug set second out.
The secondhand GP40's were very common on the L&A in the late 80's.
This hotshot Intermodal I044 would be creeping into Lakeland Junction with a solo ES40DC upfront leading Tropicana cars and lots of intermodal for Jacksonvilles Duval Ramp. It would be a gloomy evening after it being very sunny and hot earlier in the day.
For my first shot of the 2020’s, we see CSX K429 cutting through heavy rainfall by MP417 on the Etowah Subdivision just after 6pm as it rolls by at track speed, getting ready to knock down the clear signal at Wyvern a mile south of here. While I would have preferred that they had arrived 30 minutes sooner while their was still decent light out to get the Canadian National SD75I leading two CN Standard Cab Dash 8’s, I’ll take the result of my newest adventure in photography, night shooting using only the natural light around me. 1-2-20
Havent been out for a while after a busy few weeks at work, but headed down to Aldeburgh for dawn today and you could definitely tell it was December!
Hotshot, BN #11 or the now ZCHCPTL1, zips along at 60 MPH on the Aurora sub. I remember not being super pleased with this as the leader. BNSF1000,BN7862,BN4098. After all these years, I am still not pleased about the BNSF. From blued out Fujichrome.
While N&W 611 does its Manassas, VA. station work on the northbound leg of an Alexandria-Charlottesville round trip, a trio of SOUTHERN SDs blast south through town with a hotshot out of Alexandria, VA. Highball!
This is a photo of the first evening of my Holiday in France last week. The sun was setting on the beautiful Beach of Meneham in Brittany. I took this shot with my Canon EOS 350D and 18-55mm Lens and used an aperture of f/16 to keep the whole scene sharp.

"Pop quiz, hotshot. There's a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes 50 miles an hour, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it blows up. What do you do? What do you do?"
(4 minute exposure + RADIUM LED)
CPKC’s new daily northbound intermodal, 181, seems to be seeing mild success, with the train I shot on 5/20 being all of 20 cars long with two KCSM GEVOs on the point
With a friendly wave from the crew, southbound intermodal train Q031 blasts past the VRE Leeland Road Station near Fredericksburg, Virginia on the afternoon of November 14, 2020.
