High Heels for High Hopes included a high-end, entertainment-packed fashion show featuring the spring collection of internationally known red-carpet designer Sue Wong. Local designers Milla by Mail and Camileon Heels also lent their talents to the affair. An impressive list of celebrities were present to support the Foundation’s cause including:

-Miss Meghan, internationally acclaimed author of The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You (Chronicle Books)

According to Jen Wolf, Foundation Development Manager, "High Heels for High Hopes combines fashion enthusiasm with community spirit. Several hundren businesswomen strapped on their heels for an exciting evening of networking, fashion and education.”

Throughout the exclusive event, the Foundation offered information about kidney disease and what women can do to prevent it. The Foundation strives to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney disease and works to increase organ transplant opportunities for those in need.

“It is inspiring that some of Philadelphia’s most powerful women business leaders are devoting their time, energy and talents to a cause that affects one in every nine individuals,” Foundation Finance and Investment Manager Caitlin Behrens stated.

Among the gala event’s sponsors are SmashBox Cosmetics, Naked Chocolate Café, Peace Valley Lavender Farm, Jones Apparel Group and Tiffany & Co. Gourmet catering and cocktails accompanied a well-heeled silent auction. And each attendee received a gift bag filled with terrific treats.

Nearing the end of the meal, after learning that I wasn't staying in the area for more than the meal, Mr. Santini had inquired whether I required any transportation assistance from the restaurant. I did reply that I did require something to take me to a train station such that I could return to Milano. Helping me hire a car, Mr. Santini had me comfortably seated in the front waiting area/drawing room until the time of departure. As a kind host, he greeted and bid farewell to all of the restaurant's patrons as they left, and sending some off (at least the ones who left at the same time as I) with a copy of "Les Grandes Tables du Monde" a summary of all the Relais & Chateaux restaurants in the world (for 2007). Yes, I was kindly given one as well. :)

Our travels continue. Farewell to our friends Graham and Vanessa, and to our wonderful hosts at Camping Camino, Castrojeriz. A great stay despite the wet weather and lack of Bee Eaters (too cold for bees). We now head into the mountainous areas south of Bilbao, ready for our ferry back to the UK next Tuesday.

Casa del Tren (Parets del Vallès)

Established in Notting Hill in 1990, Beach Blanket Babylon describes itself as a "club for the discerning without requiring a membership”. In 2007, they opened the Shoreditch branch, which I’d been going past for years (if you’re heading down bethnal Green Road from Shoreditch High Street station you can’t miss it) without really knowing what it was or what it was doing there. Look for stone (not sure if actually stone) eagles on the outside.

Anyway, they invited us along to the launch of ‘Host Your Own Roast’. Which is 50% party, 50% roast dinner. Combining Sunday Roasts and a party (on Sunday, obviously) is a pretty...astute idea that I can't say I've seen in all that many places. Also when it's a party at someone else's place (i.e BBB's place) you don't need to do the washing up. Unless you want to.

Other things of note where bottomless bloody marys (which I don’t really understand in this context but am not going to complain about), the chefs coming out to carve food as part of the demonstration (and as you can see, it was a LOT of food), a lemon meringue pie of legendary quality, and me dressed as a chef (no pictures of this survive)

The shots you see were taken inside the bar/restaurant area - which looks cool as fuck. BBB seem to focus on Modern European/British cuisine and a reasonable selection of wines and cocktails. It definitely reminds me of a wine bar/lounge. On that note, downstairs is a lounge that seats about 300 I believe (it was closed when I visited). I should quite like to return :D
