The Birmingham Museum of Art (BMA) hosted a preview reception for the committee planning this year’s Museum Ball. BMA Board of Directors chairman Judge Ralph Cook introduced the Museum Ball co-chairpersons Nyya and John O. Hudson III to the gathering.
John thanked the committee members for their service and also thanked this year’s Men’s Committee co-chairmen Edgar B. Marx, Jr. and Charles H. Simpson.
The theme for this year’s ball is A Portrait of our City and will highlight generous leaders in the Birmingham community who make the Museum a central figure in the city.
The Museum Ball will be May 4. The black-tie gala will begin with cocktails in an atmosphere of contemporary elegance and will move into the galleries for an extraordinary culinary experience by Gianni Respinto of GianMarco’s restaurant. After dinner, guests will gather for dancing to the sounds of Big Swing & the Ballroom Blasters.
The Ball provides the major portion of support for the Museum’s educational programming, including school programs, family days, Bart’s ArtVenture, and teacher trainings. For more details about the Ball, call Kate Cleveland at 297-8214.

HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSTS ATLANTIC FUTURE FORUM CONFERENCE
On 28-29 September the 5th Atlantic Future Forum (AFF22) was held on board Royal Navy Flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth, anchored off New York. Delegates from across the political, military and business spheres were formally welcomed by Captain Ian Feasey, Commanding Officer. Over the course of the two days panel discussions will be held and delegates will have the opportunity to talk with industry partnters.
The Forum will be led by the Department for International Trade (DIT), working alongside the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to strengthen the trade and economic pillars of the Euro-Atlantic alliance and reinforce our security and defence partnerships with like-minded, democratic allies. The AFF is chaired by Lord Sedwill and will be co-hosted by the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Ben Key and HM Ambassador Dame Karen Pierce.
HMS Queen Elizabeth is the lead ship of the Queen Elizabeth class of aircraft carriers and the Fleet Flagship of the Royal Navy. She is named in honour of the first HMS Queen Elizabeth, a World War I era super-dreadnought, which in turn was named after Queen Elizabeth I. The ship carries her namesake ship's honours, as well as her Tudor rose-adorned crest and motto.

England is awash with daffodils of every variety. They are everywhere you go, and are glorious. I am loving them. So this represents my week nicely. (See my stream for more daffs.)

Week 16.
In fact, they are so gorgeous,
I am inspired to look up Wordsworth's poem.
I wander'd lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle in the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never ending line
Along the margin of the bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such jocund company:
I gazed- and gazed- but little thought
What wealth and show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
Elmora School 12 hosted its annual Multicultural Show, ”One World, Many Stories” on Friday, June 5th. Parents and students in the audience danced and sang along with the performers on stage. Many standing ovations were given to the performers. Dances, poetry, and songs from all over the world were showcased. Teachers surprised the audience with a dance of many Medleys from all over the world.
The highlight of the show was the parade, where over 100 students walked into the Gym to the song “Coming to America.” Students and staff members walked in a line wearing native clothing from their country, waving the American Flag. It was an emotional and patriotic beginning. Students and parents were able to celebrate diversity, learn about other cultures, and pay tribute to this great country for educating so many children from all over the world!
Yeah, you know what it's a host of.
I took new car for an MOT today, and whilst it failed, it was only on some bulbs and a ropey handbrake, so hopefully a new handbrake cable should sort it.
Having dropped the car off at the MOT station I walked back through the park past this throng of daffodils.
I was going to take something else, but I looked at the clock and it's quarter to one - too late!
So the daffs stand. :)
