I thought this truck promoting a Kabukicho host club (Fuyutsuki Group?) may have gotten a little off course when I spotted it in Harajuku recently.
L'actual edifici de l'Hostal dos Reis Católicos va ser manat construir en 1501 pels Reis Catòlics per atendre els malalts i pelegrins de Santiago de Compostel·la, segons es pot llegir en la inscripció llatina que recorre el fris superior de la portada. La seva construcció, no obstant això, es va decidir ja el 1492 coincidint amb el descobriment d'Amèrica.
El projecte de les obres s'ha de l'arquitecte reial Enrique Egas. Davant de la façana podem veure una forta cadena del segle XVI sostinguda per pilars acuradament tallats que delimita la propietat de l'hospital i que té el seu origen en les disputes de propietat entre l'Ajuntament i les autoritats de l'Hospital. Compta amb una bella portada plateresca obra dels mestres francesos Martín de Blas i Guillén de Colás. En les pilastres d'aquesta portada podem veure de baix a dalt, les figures d'Adam, Santa Caterina i Sant Joan Baptista a l'esquerra i les d'Eva, Santa Llúcia i Maria Magdalena a la dreta. En el fris de la porta, estructurada a manera d'arc triomfal romà apareixen alineades les figures dels dotze apòstols. En les petxines sobre l'arc podem veure els medallons que recullen els bustos dels reis Isabel i Ferran. Sobre el fris, al cos superior s'obre la finestra de l'Estança Reial, reservat per allotjar als monarques quan acudissin a Compostel·la i flanquejada per les imatges de Crist, la Verge, Sant Jaume, Sant Joan Evangelista, Sant Pere i Sant Pau. Dos grans escuts, amb les armes de Castella flanquegen així mateix, la portada. Recorrent tot el front de l'edifici veiem els balcons dissenyats per fra Tomás Alonso, recolzats en mènsules molt treballades que representen figures fantasioses. La cornisa es decora amb una minuciosa cadena en la qual sobresurten grotesques i obscenes gàrgoles.
L'espai interior està estructurat en una planta rectangular amb quatre patis. El més artístic d'aquests patis és el primer que trobem entrant a l'esquerra, en el qual destaca sobretot, la porta que condueix a l'antiga sala de Sant Lluís. L'interior de l'Hostal alberga una bella capella ogival, declarada Monument Nacional en 1912. La part més interessant d'aquesta capella de planta de creu llatina, situada entre els quatre patis, és el creuer al qual s'accedeix a través d'un enreixat de ferro de bella factura, obra del serraller francès Guillén. La volta del creuer, confeccionada en pedra litogràfica de Coimbra, és d'una bellíssima filigrana.

This display of daffodils pops up every year to lift the spirits and later to "flash upon that inward eye". It is by the side of the Rochdale Canal to the north of Littleborough. Today I went to Todmorden for lunch at the Bridge Café where I had my 'usual' - bacon and egg butty and a coffee. It was such glorious weather I decided to add on a few extra miles for good luck.
