Das bereits 1286 vollendete Heiligen-Geist-Hospital ist eine der ältesten bestehenden Sozialeinrichtungen der Welt und eines der bedeutendsten Bauwerke Lübecks.
Bis heute ist das Heiligen-Geist-Hospital teilweise ein Alten- und Pflegeheim.

The Holy Spirit Hospital, completed in 1286, is one of the oldest existing social institutions in the world and one of the most important buildings in Lübeck.
To this day, the Holy Spirit Hospital is partly a retirement and nursing home.

Claustro del Hospital de Santiago de Ubeda, construido entre los 1562 y 1575, y estando considerado como una de las grandes obras de la arquitectura asistencial del renacimiento en España.

The old hospital at the Port Arthur Historic Site, Tasmania was built on a hill to catch 'healthful' breezes. The building contained wards for 80 convict patients, a store, kitchen, a morgue, wash house and waste collection room. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed by fire in the 1890s.
A hospital ward, could be anywhere I would think. It is functional too, as long as you know what kind of functions are included or excluded. Is a "sense of beauty" functional? Is a piece of art included in the functions offered by a hospital? A flower perhaps? Small things can make a big difference. Most important is the other thing one cannot see in this picture - the humanity of the hospital staff and the person-to-person contact between nurses, doctors and patients. Whatever the architecture. Mid June Hans was hit by a stroke. He could barely speak and his right limbs were almost paralyzed. After a week on the monitors, he has been given recovery exercises for 5 weeks. Now he is back home. He can talk again and uses his right arm. Learning how to walk will take another two months. And more: he is able to take pictures again! We will continue as if nothing has happened!
Luton and Dunstable University Hospital (just a fraction of its frontage). Over the decades, it has grown, more buildings were added, and space becoming ever more precious. The alternative would be to completely rebuild the complex according to medical necessities. For many reasons, however, the add-on approach was chosen, and this led to the highly complex structure we have got today. I am not complaining, I am actually grateful to what the staff are doing. You just need a map to find your way or find somebody giving you directions.
This mural by Hendog, a graffiti artist who works secretly at night, was discovered in April 2021 on the wall of the hospital in Winchester. It is his tribute to the nurses for their work during the pandemic.
I am always happy to find a new mural by Hendog, who is sometimes described as Hampshire's answer to Banksy.
