Wandering around Nottingham I noticed a grey wall that I thought would make a good background to photograph someone against. At that moment Freya walked around the corner so I decided to ask her if she’d be willing to be photographed for my Stranger Project.

Freya immediately agreed and I quickly took a few pictures of her, liking how the light coming from front right added some great highlight and shadow detail.

Freya said she was interested in how I took the picture as she was studying photography at university. She told me that photography had always been something she enjoyed but it had been a snap decision to sign up for the course.

Freya told me she was from Nottingham and the thing she liked best about the city is the community as she enjoys socializing.

Freya has a dog and two Bearded Dragons, although she quickly added that the latter are her mum’s pets. Whilst Freya doesn’t mind the lizards she really doesn’t like the fact that they are fed live worms and insects, the crunching sound they make when eating the insects makes her shudder.

Finally, I’d like to say thanks once again to Freya for taking part in this project and I wish her all the best with her photography course.

Well, I mean. We do come here every night to get our smokes.

And look how pretty they have gussied it up for the holidays!

Have you guessed where we are? The Sinclair Gas Station!

Besides, when's the last time you saw a postage stamp machine like that? Usually, at the post office, they make you pay for about $75 worth of stamps at once. And how often do you actually even USE snail mail, so why do they force you to buy all them stamps in bulk?

We like that stamp machine. We like buying our coffin nails here. The men are so fine and nice to us.

This place is boss. 'Cause Kachina says so.

Silver plated wire and silver seed beads work together to make a monochromatic, simple hoop earring. Each pair of earrings has a large bead or crystal added for a pop of color.

Hoping to add to my stranger tally whilst wandering around Nottingham city centre I found myself on a street that offered a number of doorways and walls of different colours that I thought would be usable as backgrounds, so I decided to hang around for a while and see if anyone came along that would make suitable subjects.

It wasn’t long before a bright yellow coat caught my attention and I knew I had to ask the owner if she would be willing to become a stranger for me. As a bonus she had a friend with her, so I’d possibly get a second subject too.

Once I’d introduced the project to them they were both quick to say yes. I often find that when asking two people they want to be photographed together, or assume that’s my intention, so I suggested I photograph them singularly as my background choices weren’t really wide enough to photograph both of them against together. Both were quite happy to have the portraits taken separately and this also allowed me to use different backgrounds. You can see Evalene’s friend, Aimee, in my next entry to the stranger project.

Evalene’s yellow coat and red hair made for an eye-catching colour combination so I just had to photograph her against a wall of a complimentary colour. The day was overcast providing a flattering soft light so there weren’t any problems taking the picture.

Evalene told me she was a student and was attending university to study a foundation course in costume design aimed at producing clothing for theatre.

I then asked Evalene who her first star crush was on and she said Winona Ryder who is one of the most successful and iconic actresses of the 1990s. Evalene then giggled and said she was going to say Fireman Sam but thought she’d better choose someone real. She then added that due to infatuation with Fireman Sam she’d always wanted to be a firewoman. When I ask why she hadn’t decided to follow this career path she said because she really didn’t like being anywhere near fire.

Thank-you so much for agreeing to be a stranger for me Evalene and I hope you like your portrait.

Using the brick stitch technique, I wove primarily size 11 seed beads around the perimeter of these sturdy little silver plated hoops, using nymo thread, a strong multifilament thread favored by bead artists.

Some girl from an MTV reality show called "Jersey Shore" that was being filmed in Miami Beach.

First ever paparazzi shot for me, I wouldn't be any good at because I have no clue who most of the so-called "stars" are anyway.

There’s power in stillness, and strength in silence. Unspoken Resolve captures Erica's unwavering focus—the kind of intensity that doesn’t need to shout to be heard. Beauty, determination, and grace, all held in a single gaze.
