House Plans and Interior Millwork by Curtis

St. Paddy's Day Soup -

Soup broth: a can of Campbell's Homestyle Butternut Squash Bisque Soup, 5-6 cans of water. (The soup is a real plus for this recipe!) Season with 1 1/2 Tbsp. of "Superior Touch" Ham Base bouillon mix, 1 Tbsp. parsley flakes, 1 tsp. garlic, and 1/2 tsp. white pepper.

A half-a-pound center-cut ham cubed, 5 potatoes peeled and cut, baby carrots cut in small pieces,1/2 small head of cabbage shredded, a small onion sliced in small pieces, four green onions sliced. (Optional: add chopped celery, for more green, healthy veggies!)

Bring to a boil and then simmer on the stove! Serve with yeast rolls or cornbread! Leftovers can be stored in a gallon freezer Ziploc bag. This soup may be even better on the second day!

Simple homestyle noodle dish from North China. Kake wrote about this dish on her very helpful website: Reading Chinese Menus.

Noodles with a sauce of pork, onion, ginger, garlic and toppings like beansprouts with chili-oil, spring onion, red peper, cucumber, peanuts, gomashio .

You serve it like this, but before you eat it you mix everything into a big mess.

In my opinion, roast chicken is always not only a better but, a healthier choice to fried type.

Bits of beancurd left behind while making stuffed beancurds were used up in this dish. The beancurd bits were mashed to combine with extra fish paste and minced meat mixture to fill the ladies' fingers. The leftover were made into beancurd balls as shown here :)

Buttercream icing in a "homestyle", yet elegant, texture (like granny might have done but cooler....)

The single tiers were displayed on rustic tree stumps custom cut at various heights and widths.

Fresh roses, hydrangea and foliage finish the display

Wow! This book even more wonderful from the previous books of Tone Finnanger.

Who thought it could be?!

First of many interior shots of this great American cafe in Pie Town, New Mexico. Lots and lots of photos coming along... oh yes, and pie, too. Set begun as "Celebrating Pie".

See links about Pie-O-Neer with this photo on my stream:

this strawberry is filled with emery powder to keep my pins sharp. I used a tilda pattern from Sew Pretty Homestyle.

Made the old fashioned way--no sugar, just meal, egg, buttermilk, dash of oil, salt, and soda--and, in this case, a bit of mixed herbs and chopped garden greens. Much better than "self-rise mixes"! (The buttermilk and the soda, working together, do the 'rising'.)

Acabaram de chegar!!!!!!!!!!! Estou encantada!! Sou fã dos trabalhos da Tone Finnanger!! Uma quinta flower maravilhosa!! BJs.

From Yoko, p. 90 of Moosewood Restaurant New Classics: 350 Recipes for Homestyle Favorites and Everyday Feasts, by The Moosewood Collective. New York: Clarkson Potter, 2001. (ISBN 0-609-80241-0 (pbk.))

INGREDIENTS

1 c sushi rice (short grain white)

1 1/2 c water

1 lb. peeled and deveined shrimp

1/4 c rice vinegar

2 t sugar

3/4 t salt

2/3 c peeled and grated carrots

1/4 c minced scallions

1/4 c grated daikon radish

1 T toasted sesame seeds

1+ sheet nori seaweed (I like lots of nori)

1 ripe avocado

optional: salad greens, citrus wedges

DIRECTIONS:

Bring rice and water to boil in saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, until rice is cooked, about 15-20 mins.

Have another pot with simmering water and cook shrimp until pink and firm, 2-3 mins. Drain.

In a cup, mix rice vinegar, sugar and salt until dissolved.

Put cooked rice in large bowl. Add vinegar mixture, carrots, scallions, daikon, sesame seeds, and crumbled nori. Mix and set aside to cool at room temperature.

To serve, put greens on individual plates (I think it's better without the greens), mound rice, arrange avocado and shrimp. Put a citrus wedge on the side if desired. Garnish with nori.

The original recipe has a wasabi vinegar dressing, which I didn't like. I think the vinegar in the rice is sufficient seasoning, but if I were to add anything, perhaps a little drizzle of soy sauce at the end.

There was a photo session in my new apartment featuring a home stylist and a firm selling design products and furniture. Hopefully there will be an article published in the leading Swedish home design magazine. They carried all these stuff up here just for taking photos and than carried it down afterwards. So nothing on the photo is mine, except the photo print.

I had some requests for more retro/80s food packaging - this stuff is from my archives....nothing recent

Not a bad attempt for this new concoction, which is delicious. Prawns and squids cooked with homestyle potato chips and curry ingredients.

Actually before this seafood curry crossed my mind, I was thawing the prawns and squids for using in my newfound recipe of okonomiyaki. We ate okonomiyaki, which is a Japanese pancake-pizza at the food corner at CK Tang many years ago. Back then it was deliciously served with dried, shaved bonito and mayonnaise.

"Okonomi" means "as you like". This refers to the ingredients, which includes seafood, chicken, beef, mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, bacon, cheese and etc.

A few pages of the Sew Pretty Homestyle book... that's my favorite Tilda book at the moment.

Original homestyle portraits have become difficult and Ithis is me just taking my photo for the day because I had to. Of course, Lily always looks cute and she was all curled up w/ her 2nd favorite penguin so it's nice to capture cute moments of my daughter.
