When the sun goes down, after a day of hard walking in the snow, looking at that chalet, I felt to say "Home, sweet home..."

Trichonephila clavipes

Moments later, the support for the offending leaf is almost cut away, and the web repair is underway, as she pulls silk from her abdomen. Also it becomes easier in this pose to see that our little heptapod has lost a right foreleg. Happens sometimes.

Are we building homes for families or just throwing up shells for empty men? Remember, not only old houses are haunted and not all hauntings require ghosts.

A bit of a cliché lockdown image, perhaps, but it has been miserable outside all day. My contribution to this evening's dinner table.

Sea Palling, April 2017 Fern is in denial about having to leave the beach

The house wrens have returned for the summer breeding season and are busy getting their nests built. This nest box is near the pond, and another pair of house wrens have already moved into their favorite nest box near the bedroom window. Although these plain brown wrens are rather drab compared to many other wrens, they have the most beautiful cheerful, bubbly song. Their cheerful singing wakes me up every morning, something I look forward to every year. Backyard bird.

this leaf has sat in this exact spot for the entirety of autumn and yesterday, finally, it called out to me to take it's photo before Spring totally sets in!

Leica M8 plus Elmar (collapsible) 4/90. More and more of my life takes place at home. I can of course think myself into wherever I want to be, there are no other boundaries to imagination than my own. I am also letting the world know what I think, irrelevant as this may be in itself. However, the physical radius of activity is clearly shrinking. And it is not only that I am at home most of the time, I am also beginning to understand what a luxury it is to be in my home. Home is a temporary and transient affair. I am enjoying it as long as it lasts. Looking around me and seeing how the lives of many friends my age come to an end, I am keenly aware that 'home' may not be the ultimate station of my life. There will come a time when we have to give up our home. Not really moving on, but moving out and letting go and approaching the end. I have seen too much and I am too old to "rage against the dying of the light". It is what it is.

A perfect blend with the rough bark of a Black Cottonwood Tree this Eastern Screech-Owl (Northern) is an unusual visitor for Alberta, according to our bird guide. It is differentiated from the Western Screech Owl by its vocalization. Here is the vocalization we heard from this owl in Alberta: macaulaylibrary.org/asset/420815221

Marsh Owl (Asio capensis ssp.tingitanus) in flight Morocco_North Africa_w_0363

The Morocco Marsh Owls are an isolated and dwindling population. So much so that they are now a critically endangered species in Morocco.

This fragmented population is geographically separated from other breeding Marsh Owls by the huge arid area to the south called the Sahel. The Moroccan Marsh Owls are in fact a sub-species Asio capensis ssp. tingitanus. The only other other sub-species is Asio Capensis hova, in Madagascar.

The main cause of their decline in Morocco is habitat loss due to draining of large marsh areas with the expansion of agriculture.
