The first time I got my hands on Crazy Taxi was at Manchester Airport. On the Arcade Machine. However it wasn't the full sit down car seat version, it was the stand up version (which is cool too, and a nod to some old school arcade times for sure).

The game hadn't come out (here at least) on Dreamcast when I played it, but I'd heard of Crazy Taxi through a magazine before, so I knew what it was, and was real excited when I saw the machine.

I was off on a 2 week holiday to USA, and even before my holiday had started I had already gained one cool story to tell friends when I got back. Awesome!

Crazy Taxi was a pretty awesome game that encapsulated that Arcade 'pick up and play' feel. On the one hand that meant you could get bored pretty quick of playing it at home, but on the other hand if you moderated your playtime right you could always count on those sessions of Crazy Taxi to deliver the fun!

Although were as I enjoyed it in small portions (vast quantities of small portions, mind)...You really you had to put the hours in if you was to master Crazy Taxi. You needed to pretty much know the environments in Crazy Taxi like it was your own home town, as it was crucial that your "A to B" journey was as efficient as humanly possible.

As such I've never climbed that high on the Crazy Taxi scoreboards. Mastering all the games high level techniques, paired with getting that map knowledge down definitely took a time investment that I just never pledged.

I find the game is always pretty fun to watch too. So if you was pad swapping with some friend(s) in-between having a run at the game you could have some entertaining multi-player duals providing your not playing with someone who is way past your skill level (although that's definitely an impressive thing to watch, especially LIVE in an arcade, although watching anyone kick ass at a game in the arcade is usually cool, ...man, I miss live arcade crowds, that was always a way to draw you into a game back in the day).

Crazy Taxi 2 and 3 did there bits to try and enhance the 1 player experience with some fun mini-games and extra challenges that were definitely welcome, and it helped the game appear less shallow to some of those whom weren't finding the motivation to master the game.

The game may not be for everyone, and I can understand some people's criticism with it, but within Crazy Taxi is an amazing arcade experience, and a great challenge for those whom want to pursue it. It's ate hours of my time over the years, and I never got tired of hearing the same old Offspring and Bad Religion songs in the original soundtracks, the best music to fuel you taking bitchy people to KFC, Pizza Hut and the damn Levi's store.

It was nice to see it re-surface recently on XBLA, but shame on Sega for not renewing the rights for the music or places that were pretty much iconic to the original games. Although on the plus side it's more of an encouragement to seek out the Dreamcast Originals, or at least the Gamecube/ PS2 version.

I would love to see a Crazy Taxi 4 someday though. Pumped with new modes, features, mini-games, multi-player, and a handful of maps of a considerably larger size, I'd love them to go over the top with real life product placement too, it's annoying sometimes, and cheesy others... but in Crazy Taxi it'd be a perfect fit, and they have to hire the CrrrRRRAAAzzzY announcer too!
