Jean-Michel Basquiat, the eldest son of Haitian and Puerto Rican immigrants, grew up in Brooklyn. His home life was steeped in music, art, and Caribbean culture, and he often visited art museums with his mother. A gifted self-taught artist, Basquiat left high school before graduating, preferring to immerse himself in the gritty, lively New York underground scene. His earliest known artworks were philosophical writings signed SAMO© (short for Same Old Shit), which began as a collaborative project with graffiti artist Al Díaz (b. 1959) in 1978, but soon the pseudonym was used by Basquiat alone.

By the early 1980s, the art establishment had recognized Basquiat's groundbreaking significance thanks to his distinctive style, which combined bold color, expressionistic brushwork, and a unique visual vocabulary that layered together text and symbols, glyphs, and images drawn from historical and contemporary sources. In 1982, he was the youngest artist invited to participate in documenta, an international art exhibition held every five years in Kassel, Germany. In 1983, his work was included in the Whitney Biennial alongside that of Keith Haring, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, and other key New York artists of that moment. His life was tragically brief—he died from a drug overdose at 27—but his artistic output was broad and impactful, expanding the definition of art by bringing graffiti techniques onto the canvas.

The newly remastered editions of Pink Floyd's back-catalogue sound fantastic, so I thought I'd prepare some suitably hi-res artworks to complement them.

Seo Hyun-jin debuted as the lead vocalist of K-pop girl group M.I.L.K in 2001. However, the girl group soon fell by the wayside due to fierce competition among manufactured bands, which led to one of the members quitting before the outfit completely disbanded in 2003.

After M.I.L.K. was dissolved, Seo attended Dongduk Women's University, where she majored in applied music to keep her dream of a career in singing alive. As a solo artist she contributed songs to a few soundtracks and SM Town compilations. When she got a chance to perform in her first musical, The Sound of Music, in 2006, she saw it as a turning point to begin her acting career. Besides joining more theatrical productions, Seo shot a movie and a short drama with boyband DBSK (at the time she and the group were under the agency SM Entertainment).

Supporting roles followed in the TV police procedural H.I.T (2007) and queer film Ashamed (also known as Life Is Peachy, 2011), though Seo got noticed for her subtler performances in period dramas such as Hwang Jini (2006), particularly her career-making performance in The Duo (2011) as a neighborhood tomboy who later becomes a gisaeng. She played her first villain in Feast of the Gods (2012), as an overly ambitious chef caught in a rivalry. Seo was then cast in more leading roles in the period dramas The King's Daughter, Soo Baek-hyang (2013) and The Three Musketeers (2014). But she said the character that most resembled her real-life personality was the foodie freelance writer in Let's Eat 2 (2015), adding that she "didn't realize how much fun shooting a lively and comical drama could be.

Seo has also frequently appeared in projects directed by her best friend, actress Ku Hye-sun, notably short film The Madonna and the feature film Magic, in which she had her first leading role.
