Calling engine capacities off in cubic inches sounds so much cooler than litres, but this is still a 4.7L V8! My 1.8 would be called a 110! Not so cool. Best stick to CC instead, it's an 1800!

Built for William Curry, headmaster of Dartington Hall School, this Modernist gem was commissioned by Leonard Elmhirst and designed by William Lescaze in 1932. The house still evokes the ‘serenity, clarity and a kind of openness’ described by Curry.
In 2012 the National Trust agreed to manage High Cross House as a Trust property on a ten year lease; this included a two-year ‘break-clause’. They took on the house with its indigenous furniture only; the living and dining rooms shown in their original state but the rest of the house as an exhibition area for local artists.
Despite hugely raising the profile of High Cross House, visitor figures continued to be below target and therefore were not generating enough income to make it financially sustainable.
Vaughan Lindsay, Chief Executive of The Dartington Hall Trust, said: ’As a Trust we are keen to give the public access to our Estate. Our gardens, in particular, attract many people to explore and experience their beauty. And we wanted to see if opening up High Cross House in partnership with the National Trust could also be successful. Unfortunately, the house has not attracted as many people as had been hoped for and the National Trust have decided they don’t want to continue with the arrangement. We will now be looking at alternative ways we can share this remarkable modernist building.’

One of the new attractions for me was the high tower carrousel at the Stuttgarter Festival. Well I preferred to stay on the ground taking pictures instead of get "centrifuged" in 50 m altitude.

I have wanted to try this ever since getting a front derailleur only Campy shifter from @jpweigle two years ago. I'm pleased with the result. The Shimano Alfine chain tensioner does a fine job taking up the 18 link difference between the 52t and 34t chainrings. Plenty of clearance for a 22t freewheel. That gives me 62.3 and 41 chain feet. A real gap. I feel like I should gear it a little higher with a smaller freewheel to make climbs in high gear a real bear and make the low more useful. But yeah, I had to try it. My dream is a go-anywhere range with binary simplicity. If I had the dough, I'd try a Schlumpf High Speed Drive, for sure. www.schlumpf.ch/hp/hsd/hsd_engl.htm
