We went for a walk on Higger Tor, it was blowing a gale. Austen was bracing himself against the wind to take a shot.
For Christmas I received the excellent "Photographing The Peak District" by Chris Gilbert and Mick Ryan. During my hike I made it my mission to find
On the front cover is this composition shot by Chris which instantly recognised as being by absolute favourite tor on the High Peak; Higger Tor. Carl Wark had been on my list of places I wanted to explore and I just had to find this composition and shoot my own version of it. In a spooky coincidence the conditions and light were almost the same as when Chris shot it. I didn't quite frame it up exactly the same and went for a dead centre composition, but it was a very fun exercise getting 99% of the way there.
A big thank you to my Uncle T for the lovely gift and to Chris Gilbert for presenting such a beautiful composition...he must have been jumping for joy when he found this one!

Went out to see if we could see the sunset on the longest day.. Sadly not! But saw these instead! On exercise I guess?
Up at Higger Tor in the Peak District, Derbyshire.
In the distance is The Carl Walk Iron Age Hill Fort, photographed through the Millstone Grit boulders of Higger Tor.
Carl Wark Fort, Hathersage Moor , Derbyshire, taken from a point on the Sheffield Country Walk. The fort is believed to have been used as a fortification from the Iron Age up through the Romano - British period and possibly last fortified against the Germanic tribes at the end of the Romano-British period once the Roman Legions had withdrawn. This would give it a working life of five hundred to one thousand years. Higger Tor is the high point of the ridge to the top left of the picture, a well known landmark.
Not the most striking sunrise I've seen on Higger Tor. Fortunately, I got a couple of blasts of light and a bit of colour at dawn to make it worth while!
Advenures in Ouzeling - Higger Tor 07052021 - the pair made their way lower down till they got to the grassed area where there were other Ring Ouzels - at least 8 in my field of vision but by now some distance away. I'm thinking they were after worms/insects
My Nephew Eddie, is full of life and attitude as one can clearly see in this shot! He has a charismatic personality!
I set myself the onerous task today of going back over all of my landscape sessions in 2009 and knocking out the deadwood RAW files, in order to reclaim some disc space. While deleting files I found this image, that for some reason I didn't process at the time and though they were worth finishing off.
This is a beautiful late spring sunset on Higger Tor, as the sun was slipped to the horizon across Hope Valley.
A glorious.....if brief....sunrise on Higger Tor this morning. I took advantage of another photographer also up there, he was from Kent, but I didn't get his name. Great to be out capturing such wonderful conditions :)
