Bouldering today out at Higger Tor in the Peak District with some friends.. Lovely and warm, gentle breeze and some hard problems!

The sun sinks behind the distinctive shape of Over Owler Tor. Seen from the path that leads across the ramparts of Carl Wark on Hathersage Moor.
Carl Wark is classed as an Iron Age fortification. However, no certain date has yet been determined for the building of it's walls and dates spanning from the Neolithic to Dark Ages have been suggested.
It's is thought that the name derives from 'Carl's Work'. Carl being an old name for the Devil.
Beautiful countryside in any direction, as far as the eye (or lens) can see.

I quite like the bleakness of this image, and it could be anywhere, hence he title. By now the sun was much higher, and with a predominantly clear sky, I thought to crop the sky out entirely, just leaving a hint of the glow below the horizon.
Higger Tor is a favourite of local artists. It's crowning rocks belie its mediocre stature. Still on a night like this...
A peaceful evening enjoying each others company as the sun goes down. Just me taking photos from a distance to spoil the mood.

A rare (for me) middle of the day shot taken during a recce of the area around the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark.

Following on from my previous uploads, this was taken quite a bit after sunrise and the light was becoming borderline harsh. I've wanted a panoramic image of this view for some time. The Winter sun and snow being the ideal conditions.
I'll try this again with hopefully more snow and warmer light to get what i'm after. For now, i'm not too displeased with how its turned out.
Thanks for looking.
Pleased to have caught some sun at last - Higger Tor sunrise, Peak District National Park.

A video of tonight spectacular electrical storm. Taken from near the Longshaw Estate looking towards Higger Tor.

I seem to have got a bit carried away taking panoramic images at Higger Tor last Friday morning. This was more of an experimental shot tbh as I wanted to see how it would look processed. The fg is a touch under exposed, probably by about 2/3 stop, which helped make it look more natural due to the dynamic range. I normally bracket atleast 5 frames to allow for sufficient overlap.
The colour from the sunrise had mostly washed out by now, leaving mostly bluey tones reflected by the snow.
Had a fabulous sleep last night! A good 9 hours or so - probably helped by the fact I've got a bit of a cold at the moment.
We had a reasonably relaxed start, then popped over to the Co-Op for some lunch things, and then headed over to Longshaw Estate to start a walk from there - to Carl Wark and Higger Tor, taking in Burbage Rocks on the way back. All beautiful! The weather was very kind to us, too. I was pretty knackered by the end of the walk, but it was lovely to be out in beautiful countryside :)
Picked up some delicious fish and chips for our dinner back at the cottage, and had a very relaxed evening in.

A very last minute decision to go out with the camera yesterday afternoon. I'm glad we did as the conditions were perfect (until the sun dipped below cloud earlier than I would have liked). We needed somewhere close and got to Higger Tor late/just in time but luckily Sarah didn't mind me running on ahead to get some shots. Three shots stitched to a panorama.

Going back to a cold morning on Carl Wark last November. At the time I never quite liked this composition, but it's grown on me over time.

Higger Tor, Peak District
My 1st proper outing in this Winter's snow, a combination of snow and frost on Higger Tor yesterday morning, largely clear skies, but with some subtle cloud made it worthwhile posting. Spent a good while up here, so will hopefully have some more shots to share.
Thanks for looking.
Have been watching the BBC's Springwatch programme which is broadcast from here this year; a view of the landscape around here taken earlier in the year, including Higger Tor and Carl Wark.
Red light from the rising sun, bathes Shelter Rock in a warm glow.
This is an image that I've had in my mind's eye and been stalking for at least a couple of years.
I've made numerous sunrise visits to this spot and often found that the light wasn't right (or didn't materialise at all). Finally, today the sun broke through the clouds just after sunrise and flooded Higger Tor and Hathersage Moor is a warm red light.
I'm not sure that the image is exactly right but it's the closest I've got so far!
