The Grade II Listed 18th Century Packhorse Bridge over the Burbage Brook between Carl Wark (Hill Fort) and Houndkirk Moor in the Derbyshire Peak District.
18.1.2020. All the signs were promising, cold weather, high pressure and some nice cloud effects - but at the last moment it didn't happen.
There's always next time .......

Sunset shot from Higger Tor.
Higger Tor dominates the skyline above Carl Wark in the Derbyshire Peak District. Higger Tor's wild jumble of rocks though wall-like, are more natural than its lower neighbour, Stanage Edge.
This image was taken with a Nikon D300 and 18-105mm lens.
Heres small set of shots from a very quick trip out to the Peak District the other day. It was tremendously windy, making it hard enough to remain stood up never mind concentrate on getting a nice composition! But the unsettled weather rewarded me with some great skies.
I'm surprised the idiots who set these fireworks off on Higger Tor were able to read the instructions of how to use them...they certainly couldn't read the no fires and fire danger signs.
Any viewpoint of this area never ceases to delight, this one being no exception. The breathtaking wilderness of the Burbage Valley, South Yorkshire.

The estate is made up of open moorland, woodland and farms.
It is excellent walking country, with dramatic views over the Derwent Valley.
The estate is owned and managed by the National Trust.

Standing in the presence of beauty - we are humbled - sometimes with unconscious acknowledgement of the significant benefits it has for us.
Everyday is a sunset day and a sun rise day :-)
- much more important than the ironing or washing the car :-)
Wasn't going to miss the snow this time, sunrise over Higger Tor, Peak District. A stunning morning in the peaks, well worth sacrificing a sunday morning lie in.

Leaning Block is a huge chunk of Millstone Grit that forms part of the larger edge known as Higger Tor, overlooking the Burbage Valley, in the Peak District National Park.
Under an ominous sky; another Peak District landmark, this just over the Yorkshire side of the boundary.
One from a rather good morning in the fine company of Harsharn Gill (H4RSX)
This was after the initial burst of colour and a long wait for the light to reappear. A nice bonus is the addition of the rainbow in the distance.
Towards Higger Tor from Over Owler.
The heathers are out in abundance, despite a no show interms of a sunrise, brooding clouds and glimpses of light on the land make this a worthwhile morning out in the Peaks.
I guess being jetlagged has its advantages :-)
A fantastic morning on Higger Tor when it all just comes together. Albeit briefly.
At first, with the hill cloaked in low cloud, it didn't look too promising. However, the sun managed to sneak below the cloud line briefly as it cleared the horizon, then light up the mist with quite breath taking effect.
One of those morning that serves as a reminder why I love landscape photography and the places I visit so much!

Definitely best viewed large on black...

Higger Tor is only 5-10 minutes drive from my father's house, so with a bit of persuasion I managed to grab a quick detour to see the last of the heather on the way home after a visit at the week-end
The sunrise catching the summit rocks of Higger Tor near Hathersage. In the background can be seen the Hope Valley.
