Tree work is tough and dangerous.
While admiring the brave tree workers, I cry for that huge, beautiful tree which had been filtering air and shading us for hundreds of years. I enjoyed so much taking its pictures in different seasons and light. And it was so nice watching from my window the lives on and around it - the singing birds' families; the busy squirrels' siblings; the stopping by but chased off owl and hawk visitors; kids running and swinging in its shade; deer and foxes wandering around it, ...
The enormous emptiness left is unfillable. Trees are our ignored heroes, one of our lifelines.

Laid out in 1896 to mark the thousandth anniversary of Hungary, Heroes' Square (Hősök tere) is the largest and most impressive square of Budapest.
The Millennium Monument in the middle of the square was erected to commemorate the 1000-year-old history of the Magyars. Archangel Gabriel stands on top of the center pillar, holding the holy crown and the double cross of Christianity. The seven chieftains who led the Magyar tribes to Hungary can be seen on the stand below. Statues of kings and other important historical figures stand on top of the colonnades on either side of the center pillar.
When the monument was originally constructed, Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and thus the last five spaces for statues on the left of the colonnade were reserved for members of the ruling Habsburg dynasty. The Habsburg emperors were replaced with Hungarian freedom fighters when the monument was rebuilt after World War II.
In 1989 a crowd of 250,000 gathered at the square for the reburial of Imre Nagy, former Prime Minister of Hungary, who was executed in 1958. (from visitbudapest.travel/)

I got more animals to showcase. However, the response that I'm getting with the animals was not favorable and I can easily get bored with a series especially when it lacks support from my friends.
So, I'm back with my first love. The Wheels.
I started working with this picture that's made up of 7 exposures on Photomatix. First, I tried my old extreme style that made me known to the HDR world. I was praised and in some quarters, got stoned too. However, I was not happy with the old result and decided to go for a more subtle & realistic looking HDR.
Then, I loaded the HDR image to Photoshop CS2 to work on levels, saturations, curves, etc. And still, I was not at all satisfied.
Finally, I decided to play with my imagination. The funny thing is that I came out with something HDR is not supposed to be. HDR in my opinion is a flat image where highlights and shadows are on equal terms. I'm not a proponent of the flat HDR image where the shadows are almost eliminated. I love my image to be composed of lights and shadows. So, this is the final image where I wish will win your most coveted approval.
In summary, this is 1/3 Photomatix, 1/3 Photoshop and 1/3 KK Touch.

Hero is a Rescue. Quite a number of years ago he had his hind leg amputated because it was so badly damaged when he was knocked down by a car. After this he was taken to a Rescue organisation and from there it was to Mariette, his Mom, and his forever home.
He is a crossbreed, possibly Africanis/Husky

From such a small Perth population of approximately 280,000 (466,000 in the whole of Western Australia 1940), a great sacrifice indeed. They were, of course, mostly volunteers....

The Perth War Cemetery contains 497 war graves, including 16 from World War One and four from the Vietnam War. A Cross of Sacrifice is part of the landscaped area.
The Perth War Cemetery is adjacent to the Western Australian Garden of Remembrance. It was established by the Army in 1942 for those who died on service during World War Two of wounds in the Hollywood Military Hospital after returning from operational areas. The remains of many casualties were also brought in from civil cemeteries and temporary military cemeteries so that they might lie among their comrades.
The cemetery was taken over by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in February 1949. The writing desk in the Records Building at the main entrance was the gift of the Government of Western Australia on behalf of the people of the State. It holds the register of those buried or commemorated in the cemetery, and the visitors' book. In this building, too, is the Western Australia Cremation Memorial commemorating seven members of the Australian Forces who were cremated at Karrakatta Crematorium

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as seen in Sonic 2006. They're the members of Team Sonic, which is also known as Team Hero by some fans (including myself).
I remember last year when Heroes had a booth, they could hardly get anyones attention. This year, the booth was packed, with Tim Sale's original art work (probably repros since the studio wouldn't want a greasy con goer's hands and sweat all over the original), girls in cheerleading outfits (should have been styled after Claire's high school cheerleading uniform imo), iMac's with the comic book pages on them, and some giveaways. I didn't make it to the Q&A, which might have been fun.
Guitar Hero in a van on a road trip with the volume UP. My meds are only so good. And they could not help with this all that much.
