At the beginning of lock down, I acquired hairbands in several colours. By the time salons opened and my hairdresser sent me an appointment, I found that I did not want to go to the salon but preferred to stay home and wear my hairbands
A three unit helper composed of a pair of SD70ACEs bracketing an SD40-2 are at Muir, MP 127.1 on Montana Rail Link's 2nd Sub mainline and the west end of an 8685 ft passing siding. The three units are have just cut off the rear of a westbound manifest that has made the climb to the top of 5702 ft Bozeman Pass and is already in the 3652 ft summit tunnel just out of sight to the left. The helpers are starting back light headed east downhill to Livingston where a loaded coal train is awaiting their assistance for another run up the grades of the old Main Street of the Northwest.

Previously unpublished shot of a juxtaposition that caught my attention - captured in January 2018.
The current 'cost of living crisis' is just the tip of the iceberg of coming problems for our society. Ukraine is basically the breadbasket of Europe and together with grain from the invading nation, Russia, we will be seeing massive shortages of staple crops and increasing food prices for all. Millions will be choosing between food and shelter or warmth. The top six energy companies in the UK made £1bn in profits last year and yet energy prices are going through the roof - my own energy bill has risen by 124% and I already strictly keep my energy use down for the sake of our planet!
There is enough wealth in this world to end poverty on this scale. When should a humane society consider that food, water, shelter and warmth are basic human necessities that everyone ought to be entitled to? Instead of taxing wealth, however, we take from the ordinary folks and the poorest suffer. I'm not expressing my politics here and you can draw no conclusions from my thoughts on that, but I am expressing my basic humanity. We are one species sharing one tiny planet in the vastness of space. Why do we not care more about our fellow humankind? When do we consider that we actually need to help each other?

CSX B24809 is on the rear of Q35309 as it passes the S-curves near Salisbury Junction. At this point, the 8554's shoving work is over as the railroad is all downhill from here west to Connellsville. The early 2010s saw classic old EMD power such as SD50s displaced from their long-time helper assignments in favor of newer power. This trip in 2010 was the first and last time I ever shot an SD50 in helper service out here.

As exhaust rises into the illumination of a light tower, Rio Grande EMD SD40T-2 No. 5371 rests next to the venerable sand tower at Helper, Utah, on the night of October 23, 2007. By this autumnal date in 2007, the aging Tunnel Motor was the last Denver & Rio Grande Western locomotive on the Union Pacific system in its original unpatched paint and road number.
On the soggy marathon drive home from Salt Lake City, I caught the rear-end of a M-HELLAU (Helena-Laurel freight, which runs as needed) as it worked its way up Bozeman Pass at Trail Creek Rd. The Helper set on the rear included the SDP40, so a brief detour to shoot them at the west portal of the Bozeman tunnel.

Week19:Roll of Film
First of all... of course, I successfully saved the bee right after the shot. She shook herself dry twice and then flew away. The swimming accident happened in our children's pool. I was just out in the garden looking for a suitable picture for this week. And then I saw her. I just needed one click for this moment, since it was a matter of life and death. It was a win-win situation for the bee and me. She was rescued and I had my picture for this week safe. Don't swim out so far and always keep your head up!

A Utah Railway coal empty is pictured climbing into the Gilluly, Utah horseshoe the morning of Aug. 30, 1998. Minutes out of Provo, the road power experienced a locomotive failure. Two locomotives were dispatched from Martin to rescue the stalled train, waiting at Castilla. A point helper on a Utah Railway coal train is rare in the extreme. I was super lucky to catch it.

Rio Grande GP40s No. 3084 and 3069 shove on train No. 77 at Utah Railway Junction in Price Canyon.
Helpers in a rare appearance at the rear of a train.
The first SD45 that began MRL's fleet of these Loco types.
351 came to the railroad in a group of eight former Burlington Northern 45's from Helm Leasing in 1989. The only one rebuilt in and designated as an SD45M in 1991.
The ACe's sent the majority of their kind to the deadline after 2005.

A Santa Fe GP35 idles near the ATSF freight depot in Victorville, California. This helper terminal is about 25 miles below Cajon Summit in San Bernardino County.
Just a simple portrait of a three unit helper set composed of a pair of SD70ACEs bracketing an SD40-2 at about MP 117.7 on Montana Rail Link's 2nd Sub mainline on the west outskirts of the town of Livingston. The three units boosted a westbound manifest to the top of 5702 ft Bozeman Pass and cut off the rear end at Muir ten rail miles west of here. They turned right back light engine east downhill where a loaded coal train is awaiting their assistance for another run up the grades of the old Main Street of the Northwest.

Dear little Primrose was helping me pick up the last of the windfalls yesterday.

While negotiating a curve at Horse Creek, WY, C&S 2-10-2 902 ran into a spot of trouble. With the loco off the rails, the crew (and a few spectators) wait for some help in getting 902 back on the track. In the background are some of the dwellings that made up the town of Horse Creek.

The slogan on the bag reads "Every Little Helps" but a well placed crease is hiding the 'E' for a slogan that best matches the position I am in right now.
I'm struggling. Having to pack and downsize means losing things that are precious but not essential. It hurts. I know that I hold on to the memories but the objects related to those memories have been such an important part of my life. Having to do this on an ever decreasing time scale while getting breathless just walking up a flight of stairs still and suffering fatigue from lack of sleep. It's all a bit too much and there is not a lot that helps.
I just needed to share. It helps just a little to let it out. My head is spinning with so much to do.
