After bringing in the trash train a three unit set of Rio Grande tunnel motors rests in the yard at Helper.
Help! This year is running much too fast! It has only just begun and six days are already over! Slow down year!
Hilfe! Dieses Jahr ist einfach zu schnell! Jetzt hat's doch erst gerade angefangen und schon ist es sechs Tage alt! Brems doch, du Jahr, du!
In the summer of 2003, Crawford Hill on BNSF’s Butte Subdivision out of Alliance, Nebraska, featured at least three sets of Cascade green three-window EMD SD60M helper sets, mostly equipped with a fuel tender. On July 22, 2003, a trio of these former BN EMDs rolls downgrade at Breezy Point just west of Belmont, heading back to Crawford after pushing a BNSF coal train over the grade.

The current 'cost of living crisis' is just the tip of the iceberg of coming problems for our society. Ukraine is basically the breadbasket of Europe and together with grain from the invading nation, Russia, we will be seeing massive shortages of staple crops and increasing food prices for all. Millions will be choosing between food and shelter or warmth. The top six energy companies in the UK made £1bn in profits last year and yet energy prices are going through the roof - my own energy bill has risen by 124% and I already strictly keep my energy use down for the sake of our planet!
There is enough wealth in this world to end poverty on this scale. When should a humane society consider that food, water, shelter and warmth are basic human necessities that everyone ought to be entitled to? Instead of taxing wealth, however, we take from the ordinary folks and the poorest suffer. I'm not expressing my politics here and you can draw no conclusions from my thoughts on that, but I am expressing my basic humanity. We are one species sharing one tiny planet in the vastness of space. Why do we not care more about our fellow humankind? When do we consider that we actually need to help each other?
Stay safe my Flickr friends.

Rio Grande business car “Wilson McCarthy” finds itself parked on a newly installed helper engine pocket track at Castilla, Utah in Spanish Fork Canyon the morning of July 16, 1983. With the herculean task of relocating six miles of main line and boring a 3009 foot tunnel through Billies Mountain behind them, D&RGW management can breath a big sigh of relief.
A three unit helper composed of a pair of SD70ACEs bracketing an SD40-2 are at Muir, MP 127.1 on Montana Rail Link's 2nd Sub mainline and the west end of an 8685 ft passing siding. The three units are have just cut off the rear of a westbound manifest that has made the climb to the top of 5702 ft Bozeman Pass and is already in the 3652 ft summit tunnel just out of sight to the left. The helpers are starting back light headed east downhill to Livingston where a loaded coal train is awaiting their assistance for another run up the grades of the old Main Street of the Northwest.

Ancestors, hear my plea. Help me not to make a fool of me and to not uproot my family tree. Keep my father standing tall.

A Utah Railway coal empty is pictured climbing into the Gilluly, Utah horseshoe the morning of Aug. 30, 1998. Minutes out of Provo, the road power experienced a locomotive failure. Two locomotives were dispatched from Martin to rescue the stalled train, waiting at Castilla. A point helper on a Utah Railway coal train is rare in the extreme. I was super lucky to catch it.
Just noticed that I haven't presented my weekly 52frames submissions here for a long time. Well, I have some catching up to do!

First of all... of course, I successfully saved the bee right after the shot. She shook herself dry twice and then flew away. The swimming accident happened in our children's pool. I was just out in the garden looking for a suitable picture for this week. And then I saw her. I just needed one click for this moment, since it was a matter of life and death. It was a win-win situation for the bee and me. She was rescued and I had my picture for this week safe. Don't swim out so far and always keep your head up!

Osprey of the Jersey Shore | 2019
The 2018 Osprey Project in New Jersey:
www.conservewildlifenj.org/downloads/cwnj_853.pdf
Ospreys continue to thrive in New Jersey. Nest surveys conducted by volunteers during the peak of the nestling period (late June-early July) resulted in documenting the outcome of 87% of 589 surveyed nests. We credit the successful work by our dedicated volunteers and faithful “Osprey Watchers” to report on nests all along the coast and major rivers. The goal of this project is to monitor and manage the state population of breeding ospreys to ensure they remain stable in New Jersey. We hope that the work conducted as a part of this project will help protect the species while closely monitoring for any indication of emerging threats.
The Osprey (Pandion haliaetus), sometimes known as the Sea Hawk, Fish Eagle or Fish Hawk, is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey. It is a large Raptor, reaching more than 24 inches in length and a 71 inches wingspan. It is brown on the upper parts and predominantly greyish on the head and under parts, with a black eye patch and wings. In 1994, the osprey was declared the provincial bird of Nova Scotia, Canada.

Drusilla admires the lush leaves of the giant monstera plant.
This is the biggest house plant I ever had. I bought it about a year ago for only $16. I've had luck bottom watering it. It is enormous - probably 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide. I'm a big fan of the fenestrated leaves. It has grown quite a few new leaves in the last year. I'm sure it needs to be divided, but I'm going to try to keep it in the original nursery pot as long as I can. I covered the surface with cinnamon to deter insect pests (and I do not water the top). It is working. My son also helped me to stake it. I bottom water it when the leaves get droopy about every two weeks and keep it in a well lit room.

These man made irrigation (rain maker) devices are ubiquitous throughout rural Georgia as well as other areas of the country. Massive in size, they allow the watering of thousands of acres when Nature isn't providing the required water from the skies.
It’s late in the blue hour as I sit in the fireman’s seat of BNSF 6820 (EMD SD40-2 blt. Apr. 1293 as BN 6360) along for a ride as we glide west into the night on Hi Line Subdivision, the legendary ex Great Northern mainline. This unit along with sister 6818 are the Essex helper set, and back then in the era before every train had a DPU the lonely little terminal hard by the southern border of Glacier National Park dispatched helpers to boost nearly every train up the 2.2% climb to the top of Maria Pass. We are on single track near Paola about to plunge in to 1744 ft long Tunnel 2 near MP 1176.2 only 7 or so miles from the terminal beside the Izaak Walton Inn where I was lodging for a few nights.

Over the last few years of photographing hundreds of old Minnesota barns, there are some that stand out in my experience. Almost any round barn qualifies for that distinction as well as other very old barns that are simply spectacular in that they made it through a hundred years and are still standing strong.
Barns that are accompanied by unusual silos are also memorable like the one in the photo that has a wooden silo. Wooden silos help date barns as some rectangle ones were first built back in the late 1800s. A decade or so later, round wooden silos were built that resembled large barrels and were held together by adjustable steel hoops.
The silo aside this barn has long vertical boards which is a little more uncommon and without talking to someone who owns it today, I would guess this dates back to the very early 1900s.
Someone years ago did a nice job of repairing and maintaining this historic barn and silo eventually putting a tin roof on the barn to add years to its life. It would be an interesting to learn more about the background from someone who lives in that area.
A nice overall touch is the guy wire anchored to the barn and attached to the upper part of the silo as if two old structures were giving help to one another as they endure the testing of time.
Many of us who are nearing the end of our own life’s journey know what that companion help is like.

Silvered Langured Monkeys are found in Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia of South East Asia. They are mainly a leaf eating monkey and have a three compartment stomach to help breakdown their food. They also eat fruit and seeds but that only makes up about 9% of their diet.
This little one is being groomed by his/her momma. They are born with orange fur but this little one is already getting some of it's silver coloring as it is growing up fast.
I hope everyone enjoys this image! :D
