Last sunrise on the old trusted berth. The last sunrise for the Noordhinder on this old trusted berth. It is the day of the relocation to the new Koningskade also in Hellevoetsluis. A beautiful fresh sunny day to festively welcome the Lightship in the historic naval harbor where she will become a real maritime attraction together with other historic ships and the dry dock.

Lichtschip 12 De Noord-Hinder - Relocation

This Lightship (Est. 1963) is the last lightship built in the Netherlands. On March 21, 1994, this last Dutch lightship was definitively taken from the sea and is now a museum ship in Hellevoetsluis. The all orange ship in maintained by a group of passionate volunteers keeping the ship in authentic state. The ship has been in service at several places on the North Sea off the Dutch coast and is still well known to many shipping crews.

The Noord-Hinder is 45.4 meters long, 8.35 meters wide, draft 3.2 meters, displacement 510 tons and was equipped with a few small diesel engines. The light, in an 18-meter tower above sea level, had a range of 27 nautical miles. The light from the 4,200-watt lamp was amplified by a Fresnel lens and emitted 2 flares every 10 seconds. It was also equipped with a radar beacon and fog horn.

The Hellevoetsluis Lighthouse is a lighthouse in Hellevoetsluis, the Netherlands. It is listed as a Rijksmonument since 1982, number 21422.[1] Although the tower is no longer in use as a beacon, the light has not been officially extinguished and the lighthouse is still one of about thirty active light houses in the Netherlands

The original oil house [next to the lighthouse] was demolished in 1930, but in 2011 architect Gunnar Daan built a replica, with modern kiosk functions this time.

With all respect, No Awards, sweepers and post 1 comment etc & self promoting signatures .......

The lighthouse in the fortress of Hellevoetsluis is the oldest original and working round lighthouse in the Netherlands. The lighthouse dates from 1822 and is characteristic of the fortress of Hellevoetsluis and its history.

The tower is 18.10m high, is painted cream and has 2 floors. Around the iron lighthouse with copper dome is a cast iron walkway with balustrade, which rests on openwork cast iron consoles. The tower was extensively renovated in 1901 and tiled up to the entrance in 1961. There are a number of round window openings in the tower.

Sunset in Old Harbor of Hellevoetsluis, Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands

My hometown, Hellevoetsluis has approximately 40 thousand inhabitants and is located on the Haringvliet. In the past, naval ships sailed from here to the North Sea with people on board such as Piet Hyen and Michiel de Ruyter to achieve victories against England or France. That did not always succeed. On 15-11-1971, the Haringvlietdam was opened. This lock separated the Haringvliet from the North Sea, the function of naval town has expired. Nevertheless, much can still be found from times gone by.

Korenmolen De Hoop

Korenmolen De Hoop (Est. 1801) monument - a stone scaffolding gristmill built in 1801 in Hellevoetsluis. In 1697 there was another post mill on the place of drydock Jan Blanken. At the end of the 18th century, this post mill needed to make place for this drydock so in 1801 this mill was build.

Footsteps in the sand on this fine coastal strip with a beautiful sunset on the Haringvliet makes you feel great and I am happy to be able to capture this......

Description in English and Dutch

When nature calls you, do you pick up?

The thought of the moment pryor to taking photo’s of nature is for spiritual humans sometimes like a fata morgana in a green dreamfield of geometric patterns. So close your eyes with me and relax. Take a very deep breath now and keep it as long as possible and after that slowly breath out. Repeat this a few times and you will experience more and more inner tranquility. Negativity and fear do not exist for a while and the image of this beautiful place in Hellevoetsluis is increasingly on your retina. As an invisible belt of green nature you experience peace in your head. The dream will take you to paradise where pain, time or negative thoughts do not exist and the weather is always nice. It will take you to the world behind this picture where sworn enemies are best friends and the illusion of life becomes the reality of the dream.

Before I spent my midweek in Spain, I was in Hellevoetsluis with a beautiful sky in the old harbor with a beautiful lighthouse during the golden hour.....i hope you like it too :)

Flood door closed as a precaution. Flood door closed as a precaution due to a high water level - on January 6, 2012, the flood door was closed as a precaution due to a particularly high water level on the Haringvliet.

Thank you for taking the time to view my photo,

maybe for your faves and comments, I appreciate that very much!

A beautiful evening in Hellevoetsluis, the Netherlands.

Ravenseweg in Hellevoetsluis in the Netherlands. I know this is crazy but here is winter for you...

When all are preparing for the night, a soothing moment, soaking up the silence of the evening.

The moon a slither, and only the music of the yachting paraphernalia, a rhythmic clanking of metal.

Hellevoetsluis features a six magnificent ports with a total of about 2,000 moorings.

The ports provide a wonderful base for boaters who love the wide waters of the Haringvliet and the sea.

From Hellevoetsluis it is possible to both inland waterways and the sea, also to sail in the Zeeland and South Holland Delta.

Hellevoetsluis is located on the Haringvliet with the sea, beach and dunes close by, on the extreme southern edge of the Rijnmond and Europoort areas, close to the broad Zeeland landscape.

The name translates as "lock at the foot of the Helle".

The Helle was a small local river which disappeared over time.

Hellevoetsluis.....Nederland....

The Fortress Harbour of Hellevoetsluis ... in the evening sun yesterday.

The reeds are blazing in the setting winter sun. You're looking at what is called the 'Zoute Kom' (Salt bowl) of the ringmoat arround the fortress of Hellevoetsluis. And I'am standing on the former seadike, dividing the moat and the sea. This part of the ringmoat used to be salt water. Now it is salt no longer, because the Haringvliet has become a fres water lake, boardering the North Sea (all part of the Deltaworks). The concrete bunker you see is a remnant of German fabrication, build in the years the Germans where guests in our little country by the sea. They sure liked this vantage point for they constructed numerous concrete dwellings that have a view over the sea....

If you want to get your geographical bearings go to Mapping the Sites and look for number 8 Hellevoetsluis in the map.

Day 8

Hellevoetsluis.

At last, a windmill! We drove through a big part of Holland , eh without spotting one windmill? What are the chances eh? LOL

We are nearly there!

In 1697, there was a wooden mill on the site where now is the dry dock .

Dirk Jacobsz Goutswaart is mentioned as the first miller .

This mill, at the end of the 18th century, had to make way for the dry dock.

This, the stone mill "De Hoop" built in 1801 .

After this , until the restoration of 1992-1993 are an architect , a goldsmith and various artists used the mill.

Now the miller and partner occupy the ground floor and first floor.

It is still open to the public on week-ends.

Thanx for your visits and comments, M, (*_*)

Hellevoetsluis is an old fortified city and in the 17th century it was the home port of the Dutch Navy.

This panorama is made out of 2 photo's.

And a floating monument....

Hellevoetsluis is a small city in the western Netherlands and is one of the largest water sports centres in the country. There are 2,000 mooring places, spread over five harbours.
