Dear friends, I am realizing that my archives are rich in forsaken treasures – yes, I know that in those days of lockdown you all are realizing the very same thing ;-)
This picture comes from a sunrise session at my favourite location, the meanders of the river Adda, dating from April 2015. I would avoid to nag you about this incredibly wonderful location: you can take a look at my album Silent banks, the complete collection of the photos I have taken there; the attached narratives are rich in information about the place, if you are curious enough.
This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning.
I have picked this specific bracketing for a number of reasons (including the dewdrops you can see on the grass in the foreground), but I suspect that its main merit lays in giving me a feeling of opening to new possibilities. In the same vein, I believe that this pandemic will open a whole world of new paths for us to travel along. After the pain and the sorrow, after having regained the closeness we had taken for granted for so much time before the storm abruptly took it away from us… After we have risen from the ashes of Covid-19 we will be bound to take seriously a huge lot of lessons that this (not even alive) tiny speck of proteins and RNA has taught us. We will have to unveiling our souls because everyone’s soul counts – everyone can contribute to a new way of living, just as now the raging infection requires that everyone accepts and practises the lockdown – and everyone has a role to play in this common struggle.
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then, as usual, I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwith standing, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities. In this picture I have exploited this technique in a very frugal, yet effective, way – just some touches where needed.
RAW files has been processed with Darktable. Denoising with DFine 2 and the Gimp (denoised and original images blended by lightness).
Not long ago, I met a mischievous tuxedo kitten named Simone. She had an adorably unique way of having fun—sneaking under the blanket on the couch, only to pop out suddenly in full-on attack mode, launching herself at her plush mouse and my hands, which she considered just another target to bite. Her boundless energy made it impossible to stay mad at her for even a second.
The main reason for my sisters and I road trip was so our Mom could meet her 41st Great Grandchild, Brooks. He is the cutest baby and gave us lots of smiles! He is also the only one to carry on the family name.
Tonight we went to see the Hanami, the cherry blossom at Hakone Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. The garden is open at night while the cherry blossoms last; visit only by advanced reservation. Heartwarming vistas wherever you turn.
I processed a realistic, a photographic, and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

This song called "Mc Alpines Fusilers" was written by Dominic Behan who was the brother of the writer Brendan. It tells the story of the Irish who emigrated to England to work and has nothing to do with the war but I just think the first verse says an awful lot about Irish/English relations at that time.
England gave up its claim to the Republic of Ireland in 1923 and left after 700 years. When war broke out they requested that we allow them to use our ports but they were refused. There was still a lot of pain and mistrust here. Ireland stayed neutral. We were not in any position to join as we had no army really. Of course over 200 thousand Irishmen signed up to fight.
Something I never knew was that signs were put up on many of the headlands here spelling out the word "EIRE" so that it would be obvious to any bomber that we were a neutral country. We were bombed several times and no one has ever found out by exactly who.
The 4 letters and a number were made from stones stuck in the ground and painted white. This is the site here in the photo which only became visible after a gorse fire burned the headland in August. Most people, myself included were totally unaware of these signs till now. They are now talking about preserving them so they can be seen by the public as its an amazing piece of social history.
Because we were neutral it meant that a lot of good things were done here. Hospitals were set up to help injured airmen from both sides who crashed here and many did. Indeed many injured soldiers were brought in here from Northern ireland and treated before being returned to the UK.
An interment camp was set up in the Curragh, Co Kildare were Luftwaffe pilots who crashed here were interned. Well, it actually was an open barracks! They signed an agreement not to escape and were free to roam around the town. They went to dances and pubs and actually, many married local girls. There families are still here and there stories are heartwarming. Only one officer tried to escape but he was caught and brought back. I suppose by that stage, they were a lot safer here really and they knew it and who could blame them really.
. There is a wonderful story that my old schoolteacher told me that comes from where he was born in Co Kerry.
Theres a mountain there that has a deep chasm in it. They call it "the devils bit" It creates a vortex and planes are advised to keep clear of it. However, a young German pilot got lost over the Irish sea and ended up over Co. Kerry. His plane got caught in the suction and crashed on the mountain. Luckily he was uninjured and the locals rescued him. He didnt know where he was as these people were all native Irish speakers and he had no idea what they were saying. A local schoolteacher had some knowledge of German so they were able to explain to him where he was. He made it back home after a few weeks and they say he was picked up by a U boat off the Kerry coast unbeknown to the authorities.
Hundreds of German children were brought in here to safety from Dresden and the other destroyed cities and looked after by families and volunteers in the Glencree reconcillation centre near Enniskerry. Lots of them returned here in 1994 in a 50th year celebration of theur rescue. Truly amazing. The walls were covered in letter that these children had written telling of their lives here and also of their hapiness at being here and how they missed there mothers and fathers in Germany. Many were orphans unfortunately. It would certainly move you to tears. The futility of war!
The Glencree centre is still in operation and children come here from troubled spots all over the World. Lots of children came there from Northern Ireland during the Troubles. The people who run it are truly amazing! The restaurant and centre are open to the public and its an eye opening experience and worth visiting. This is amazing!!!;

A solicitous mother deer fawning over her young - a common but nonetheless heartwarming sight on the midsummer prairie. Mule Deer and to a lesser degree Whitetails are abundant in my area, to the extent that I don't bother unless there is some interesting behaviour or fantastic light.
Thus, fawning season and the fall rut are the times I get most excited about potential photo ops with them. The big guys are undeniably impressive in late November. Meanwhile, the little ones are undeniably cute in June and July.
I'm currently working through a folder of recent shots of does and fawns; for now, here's one from 2016. Seems like yesterday.
Photographed along the access road to Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2016 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
As the gentle rays of spring sunlight filter through the foliage, they unveil a picturesque countryside tableau. The charming farmhouse, weathered by time and adorned with verdant plants, stands as a symbol of rustic elegance. Stained glass windows cast colorful patterns on the weathered wooden facade, adding a touch of whimsy to the scene.
Amidst the idyllic setting, a heartwarming sight unfolds—the cows, content in their pasture, share affectionate kisses while their curious calf observes with innocent wonder. It's a scene straight out of a storybook, capturing the essence of spring's beauty and the simple joys of rural life.
Note: This was Kaelyn's scene that I photobombed with cute cows because it was too adorable. Thank you Kaelyn, thank you Rezz Room and Pitaya 🐮💕

Acer Glade, Bodnant Gardens.
Acer palmatum, called Japanese maple or smooth
Japanese-maple (Japanese: irohamomiji, イロハモミジ, or momiji, 紅葉), is a species of woody plant native to Japan, China, Korea, eastern Mongolia, and southeast Russia. Many different cultivars of this maple have been selected and they are grown worldwide for their large variety of attractive forms, leaf shapes, and spectacular colors.
Acer palmatum is a deciduous shrub or small tree reaching heights of 6 to 10 m (20 to 33 ft), rarely 16 metres (52 ft), often growing as an understory plant in shady woodlands. It may have multiple trunks joining close to the ground. In habit, it is often shaped like a hemisphere (especially when younger) or takes on a dome-like form, especially when mature. The leaves are 4–12 cm long and wide, palmately lobed with five, seven, or nine acutely pointed lobes. The flowers are produced in small cymes, the individual flowers with five red or purple sepals and five whitish petals. The fruit is a pair of winged samaras, each samara 2–3 cm long with a 6–8 mm seed. The seeds of Japanese maple and similar species require stratification in order to germinate.

When I begun to process this exposure bracketing, I thought that I knew what I wanted to attain. I was perfectly wrong. Indeed, these RAW files kept a few secret bits of beauty which I was not aware of when I selected them for processing – and they changed the course of the journey I had foreordained.
I was in a gloomy mood, for both personal and general concerns, and the RAWs looked rather duller than the average – taken: they appeared to accurately mirror the state of my soul. At worst, I would have wasted some hours of pointless procesing work before deciding to look for something better. Nobody would have known. However things were to contradict my expectations. I got some good news (a rarity in those tough days) about the health conditions of my brother and my “adopted brother-in-law” (i.e. my brother’s brother-in-law); on the other hand, Darktable – that wonderful software – gifted me with a few unanticipated treasures. My thoughts were growing more and more positive and the processing of this bracketing were proceeding accordingly: a hidden beauty was unfolding before me, my own persisting unawareness of it notwithstanding. At last I found myself with a picture that had apparently self-processed itself*, while I was busy exploring uncharted thoughts that kept emerging along the way
* Admittedly a bizarre phenomenon, which Maurits Cornelius Escher would have loved – think of his Drawing hands.

This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning. On top of the hill in the distance, beyond the river, lays the sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca ( = Madonna of the Rock), already brushed by the first light pouring from the Eastern horizon.

We really enjoyed watching the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Concert on TV last night. A wonderful array of talent but for me the Queen stole the show when she was 'joined' by Paddington Bear for tea and revealed what we have always wanted to know - what on earth it is she keeps in that handbag of hers. Apparently, it's a marmalade sandwich - lol
If you haven't seen it seek it out as it is the most heartwarming of things

My joy these days is the long walks in the woods almost everyday. I search for secrets hidden away in the magical spring vibes that bring the forest to life again. Lately it is the birds I have been searching for. I have had many heartwarming encounters with good success at capturing images of these birds. Yet, there have been times I just capture the empty branch since the bird flew away too quickly for my reflexes. Then I thought why not intentionally create an image of the empty branches while waiting for the next bird to show up. This scene really represents the spring forest to me. Happy Tree- mendous Tuesday!
Heartwarming to see the good care this Peahen was taking of her baby...Taken at the Henry Doorly Zoo, these birds are free, walking around the zoo..

2020 is a special year in the history and for many of us, we are here witnessing how uncertainty can change our life, physically and mentally, economically and even environmentally. We learn to cherish more, a caring talk with people around us, a smile, a hug, or even a deep breath of oneself.
For me, 2020 will definitely be an unforgettable year. I have met people that open my eyes and my heart, I have learned to love again, and to truly love by setting free of whom I love, though it may sound quite foolish...Most importantly, to forgive myself for being who I truly am. I always think people are most beautiful when they don’t have to act like anyone else.
Christmas has always been a sentimental but heartwarming season for me, it is a time for forgiveness and reconciling with all the struggles and pain we have in life and with ourselves. And so, Emi have something to say today...
For all the beautiful souls in my life..
I’m sorry, if I weren’t there when you need it. Please forgive me, if I have failed your heart or let you down. Thank you, for appearing in my life, enlightening me, and giving me a taste of love. Last but never the least. I love you.
Merry Christmas, dear friends.

It was a heartwarming moment watching a group of Mothers and their young crossing the Serengeti.
Elephants are the largest living land animals. Three living species are currently recognized: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. They are the only surviving members of the family Elephantidae and the order Proboscidea; extinct relatives include mammoths and mastodons.
African elephants (the elephants shown in this photo) are the largest land animals on Earth. They are slightly larger than their Asian cousins and can be identified by their larger ears that look somewhat like the continent of Africa. (Asian elephants have smaller, rounded ears.)
Although they were long grouped together as one species, scientists have determined that there are actually two species of African elephants—and that both are at risk of extinction. Savanna elephants are larger animals that roam the plains of sub-Saharan Africa, while forest elephants are smaller animals that live in the forests of Central and West Africa.
Elephants shape their habitat in many ways. During the dry season, they use their tusks to dig up dry riverbeds and create watering holes many animals can drink from. Their dung is full of seeds, helping plants spread across the environment.
In the forest, their feasting on trees and shrubs creates pathways for smaller animals to move through, and in the savanna, they uproot trees and eat saplings, which helps keep the landscape open for zebras and other plains animals to thrive.
Elephant ears radiate heat to help keep these large animals cool, but sometimes the African heat is too much. Elephants are fond of water and enjoy showering by sucking water into their trunks and spraying it all over themselves. Afterwards, they often spray their skin with a protective coating of dust.
An elephant's trunk is actually a long nose used for smelling, breathing, trumpeting, drinking, and also for grabbing things—especially a potential meal. The trunk alone contains about 40,000 muscles. African elephants have two fingerlike features on the end of their trunk that they can use to grab small items.
Both male and female African elephants have tusks, which are continuously growing teeth. Savanna elephants have curving tusks, while the tusks of forest elephants are straight. They use these tusks to dig for food and water and strip bark from trees. Males, whose tusks tend to be larger than females', also use their tusks to battle one another.
Elephants eat roots, grasses, fruit, and bark. An adult elephant can consume up to 300 pounds of food in a single day. These hungry animals do not sleep much, roaming great distances while foraging for the large quantities of food that they require to sustain their massive bodies.
Poaching for the illegal ivory trade is the biggest threat to African elephants’ survival. Before the Europeans began colonizing Africa, there may have been as many as 26 million elephants. By the early 20th century, their numbers had dropped to 10 million. Hunting continued to increase. By 1970, their numbers were down to 1.3 million.
Compounding the problem is how long it takes for elephants to reproduce. With reproduction rates hovering around 5 to 6 percent, there are simply not enough calves being born to make up for the losses from poaching.

Yesterday I watched this mother chipmunk lead her little ones out of the safe den in my back yard and into the real world for the first time. The babies ran in and out of the den several times before they felt safe enough to stay out longer. Mom was always nearby. After 15 minutes of playing in my yard, they took off and I have not seen them since. I hope they do well in their journeys. It was such a heartwarming moment to watch.
Check out this adorable family of Asian Openbill storks! They're nestled cozily on their nest, surrounded by lush greenery. Such a heartwarming scene in nature's embrace.
I know you've seen Mack and the fluffy comforter my parents sent me in March but when I read that the theme for Happy Caturday was "possessions" the first thing I thought of was Mack and this comforter. He LOVED it. And for the weeks I stayed home from work at the onset of the pandemic "lockdown" he was always right there by me enjoying this new fluffy surface. So I want to thank my mom, not only for the comforter, but the calming, heartwarming time it gave me with Mack.
For those of you who pop on to Carnegie's FB page, you saw this photo yesterday. Sorry about the repeat.

A rose by any other name....
As I mentioned, in a previous post, Jack is the "friendliest" EAKI I've ever encountered. My only frustration is that in his preferred perch, a wild rose bush right on the Marsh path, the light is usually behind him; I have neither the equipment nor the skill to deal adequately with it. That said, however, I find his trust and interaction so heartwarming that I'm coming to think I no longer need to keep trying to photograph "it" — "it" cannot be captured in any light!
It was so heartwarming to hear that L Pancake, the queen of darkness, had a wonderful birthday celebration with her loved ones at the Royal. I just wanted to take a moment to send my warmest wishes for a lifetime of happiness and growth in wisdom and beauty.

P.S. I finally completed this series! It only took, what? 7 months? I honestly never planned this last little world to be posted today of all days considering the theme of it but I guess it was meant to be. The background is without a doubt something that was developed in all these months since Kintsugi opened during the month of May. To be exact, it opened to public on May 12 2020. I am sure the sim brought so much joy to plenty of people and it was a beacon of hope during those trying moments when we were faced with countless changes. It is sad that the sim has to close but some things sadly cannot last so long though the memories and the feelings it gave us will forever be imprinted. Despite everything, there was still some highly positive and significant happenings that made this year not completely bad which is why this little world representing joy just makes me smile.
The joy of making new friends, isn't it a beautiful, heartwarming and soulful connection? The sheer feeling of being accepted and accepting in return. Unfortunately, as much as making close friends happened, losing them too was a part of it. But perhaps this is why the notion of certain friends only meant to be 'close' for a season is a reality and this was proven during this year for me. As much as it is sad that your once close friend turns into an acquaintance, this was probably how things were meant to be. In spite of that, others tend to just disappear or leave for their own valid excuses/reasons. Did you lack anywhere? Maybe and maybe not but the important thing is you tried to fight for it. After all, friendship in solidarity are the most precious once and can lead to the most heavy heartache when ended.
The joy of discovery, discovering something new, discovering more about your long time friends and family and just discovering a whole new passion. Realizing you can create something beautiful with a long time friend that touched peoples hearts and helped to heal a little. Whether it is taking on a new instrument or discovering you had a passion for collecting different rocks or stamps. Diving into the world of trading, gold bidding and all other forms of digital profit making propaganda. Continuing or starting to write a book. The most common one that I have seen is those who didn't think they could cook before suddenly becoming bigtime cooks and bakers!
Last but not the least, the joy of finding love. Most said that it was not wise to get carried away with your feelings during this type of period since everyone was 'bored'. Well screw those who said that, the joy of finding love is one of a kind. That timeless connection with a person that you just feel a calmness and serenity. (In fact, all the little worlds together!) Someone who boosts your creativity, someone who silently holds your hand and who is just there, cheering you on as much as you do them...
Being the Grinch that I usually am, I will not admit that the Christmas season does have a way to melt a stone heart and bring about this sort of mushy positive message. I'll end this wishing everyone endless joy!
I missed yesterday. So Day 4 of Save the Elephants Celebration. An image of an elephant calf seeking reassurance and refuge under it's mother. Elephants have such an amazing bond with their babies. It's so sweet and heartwarming.

Three children in an old rusty abandoned car with their westie playing make believe.
Prompt: Create a heartwarming, highly-realistic, nostalgic digital fine art of three young children and a west highland white terrier playing in an old, rusty abandoned car in an overgrown field. The car is weathered with faded paint and rusty metal, its front tires sunken into tall golden grass. One child pretends to drive, gripping the large steering wheel with a serious expression, while the other two giggle beside him. In the back seat of the car is a cheerful West Highland White Terrier.
Three brown chickens strut through the tall grass in front of the vehicle. The background features a soft-focus pastoral landscape with a wire fence, distant barn, and blue sky with hints of mist. A bushy green shrub partially frames the left side of the car, emphasizing the feeling of rural summer adventure.
