A HEARTBROKEN lighthouse keeper’s ghost has taken up residence at a famous North Wales landmark.

The silvery, 7ft figure has made his haunting of Talacre Lighthouse permanent, some 50ft above the popular North Wales beach, following countless sightings by local residents and visitors. But The Keeper is a sculpture made of highly polished stainless steel, being the culmination of a project between the lighthouse owner and Flintshire coastal rangers.

For years there have been reports of an apparition, that of a lighthouse keeper, seen patrolling the balcony or inside the lantern room at Talacre Lighthouse. Many of the sightings have been in broad daylight.

Inspired by the resident ghost, lighthouse owner James McAllister and Flintshire County Council’s coastal unit wanted to bring him to life and commissioned a local artist to create a sculpture.

James said: “As owner of Talacre Beach Caravan Park I often hear stories from residents and guests that they’ve seen something on the lighthouse, or their dogs have reacted strangely around it, as if they sense something.

“We had a medium investigate and she made the connection to a keeper called Raymond, who may have died of a fever and a broken heart. It seems like he was a rather lonely figure, so I’m hoping that his new guest will be company for him and will go some way to soothing his anguish.”

The sculpture idea quickly developed into a serious art project and required listed building planning consent to be installed. It has taken two years to complete.

Angela Smith’s design is inspired by the coastline’s marine life.

Constructed by a local blacksmith, The Keeper is made from hundreds of highly polished, medical-grade stainless steel sea creature shapes, making him rust-resistant.

He reflects natural light and gaps between the shapes allow wind to blow through, potentially allowing him to make a suitably ghostly moaning noise.

Mike Taylor, senior ranger for Flintshire County Council Countryside Services, is delighted the project has come to fruition and hopes the sculpture will become an attraction in its own right.

He said: “We believe The Keeper is a fitting tribute to this coast’s maritime heritage and marine wildlife, and of course to the ghost of Talacre Lighthouse.

I am heartbroken by the October 7th 2023 barbaric events against innocent Israeli citizens.

"Of course I smile, just not with a meaning."

It's been 1 month since I lost my father, 1 month since my mom lost her husband. 1 month since my son lost his Pop-Pop. 1 month since my cousins lost their 3rd uncle this year! 1 month since my Aunt's lost their brother & 1 month since the world lost an amazing man!

He had beat jaw cancer TWICE!! He always went out of his way to help people, even if it was to counsel them, through prayer & visiting ppl in the hospital or nursing homes. He was a good Christian Reformed man & was devoted to the Lord & our church. He sang in choir & The Singing Men & served as an Elder for many years.

He's also a Veteran & served over in Germany for 4 yrs in the United States Army. ❤️💙

He loved gardening, his country, his wife of 51 yrs, his children, 5 grandkids & entire family & all of his friends.

No one will ever forget my father.

My beloved late wife on our final walk out together, two years ago.. When we got back home, for her final nine months of life she became a total recluse and never left our Southport home again. Damn the curse of Dementia to HELL!!!

The vibrant Japanese Rose.

I have a few pots of japanese roses and these are tiny flowers that grow in abundance. Tiny, but vibrant. I normally look at them as `the tiny pink flowers' but when I decided to do some macro shots, I was pleasantly surprised to find another flower within a flower.

Sadly today, I found out that another close family member had been diagnosed with cancer. And I am really heartbroken. This Japanese rose reminds me to look closer and spend a little more time .... on what's important.

Gonna be busy for a while. To all my muslim friends, Selamat Hari Raya!

Will be off to Singapore at the end of the week for a short break and to visit family.

Have a good week ahead Flickr Friends.

Years ago we had a terrible drought and lost about 5 or 6 fully grown wild Dogwoods. I was heartbroken. Some of them had a faint pink color and were so beautiful. Now slowly wild Dogwoods are returning. This one I was delighted to find is blooming already though only about 6 feet tall.

Update on my niece. Sadly this photo title is relative.

She was doing better but now she is worse.

There was a blockage in her intestine and now everything is inflamed and swollen again.

She has been so sick that she said she doesn't want to die.

I am heartbroken that my little niece is going through this. It seems to be one step forward two steps back. A roller coaster that she can't get off of.

"...you literally hand them the razor with a map of where to cut deepest and most painfully on your heart and soul."

- Sherrilyn Kenyon, Devil May Cry

You don't have to date someone to risk getting your heart broken. Any time you love someone—family member, friend, anyone—you risk getting your heart broken. But the crazy thing is, is that it's worth it. Loving someone is one of the greatest gifts you can give—and receive. Being hurt like that can be so painful. You feel so many things. Regret, sadness, sometimes anger, insecurity, doubt. Then you aren't sure who to trust and you're scared everyone else is going to hurt you eventually. Moving on is hard. You learn though. And eventually the pain lessens, and you remember all of the great things that happened between the two of you. You have a choice though. You have to decide if you're going to resent that person and blame them for everything, or you can forgive them and appreciate the times you had together, realize that it's a part of life; people come and go. Just because someone hurts you doesn't mean your relationship with them was a waste. Then sometimes you have a choice to let them back in to your life or not. You have the choice to hand them that razor again and chance having them either hurt you all over again or love you more than they ever did before. That's not something we can predict. And that's what makes the choice so hard every single time.

Enzo & I lost our best friend 2/2/2021

Broken hearts might never recover from the mourning if we won't try to heal them.

It's so sad to surrender into loneliness when all you gotta do is make yourself go on by just living and enjoying all the little precious daily happiness that's hidden in every corner. Don't just stand there being pathetic. Wake yourself up. And stop listening to those voices that have turned out to be ghosts of your needs. Go out and search for what it is you really need.

Jack was barely sick but within two weeks, he was close to death. I'm still shocked and so sad he is no longer there for me every time I open the door. He was my one bright spot to an otherwise cold world. He was my soulmate, now I'm lost.

on tuesday, jan 12, 2010, haiti was hit by a magnitude of 7.0 earthquake... the aftermath has been extremely heartbreaking and devastating... hundreds of thousands lives lost and countless still missing...

it's hard to watch/hear/read the news without one's heart aching, feeling helpless and crying for them. i know times are still tough for many folks in this economy (and i'm sorry for asking in this tough time), but please be grateful that we are still the lucky ones, not in/affected by this devastating earthquake. so, let's reach out (be it in big or smaller ways) by donating and/or praying for them. they desperately need water, food, medical aids, shelter among other things, and the best way to get these necessities to them is by monetary donations. i've made my donations to the red cross, doctors without borders, and the clinton bush haiti funds. always make sure you're donating to trusted organizations by checking charity navigator. ...so, what were you planning to purchase today that you don't actually need? why not use that amount to help out those in desperate need right now?... ... if you're not able to donate money, please continue to keep the haitians and those helping them over there in your thoughts and prayers. thank you!!!

for donations via u.s. mobiles/cellphones:

- text HAITI to 90999 and $10 will go to the red cross haiti relief funds

(for canada, text HAITI to 45678)

- text QUAKE to 20222, $10 will go to the clinton bus haiti fund

two years ago, i did a toy adoption for red cross donations for the san diego wildfires, so i thought of doing it again this time to help out abit. same "procedures" as to how to adopt and donate (below). last time, i only ask for donations directly to the red cross, but i would also like to ask for donations to be made to "doctors without borders" this time (or if you have a preferred charity that would utilize their donated funds wisely, please feel free to send the donation there, and just show me proof of donation and your adopted toy will be sent out to you.)

(i know i'm abit late...been really busy and didn't have time to gather my toys and take pics until now...sorry)

here is how i hope it'll work again...

1. i've posted all the toys (and few new tokidoki and hello kitty makeup items) i'm donating for you to adopt in this set.. they are all from my own personal collection and i do take very good care of my toys, so they're all in excellent (or even new) condition. ^^

2. please flickrmail me which toy you wish to adopt, and you will make your donations directly through the red cross website (please click/specify it's for the "international response funds" on the donation page) or the doctors without borders website...donation amount will be the appx price i paid for the toy, and of course, any extra amount of donations are always deeply appreciated and welcomed ^^

3. please forward me the donation email confirmation that you would receive directly from red cross or doctors without borders (which will show the donated amount) and i will send out the toy to you on my own expense. (sorry i can only send via regular mail, since priority or express shipping will add up and will be too much for me and i rather donate the extra postage to the relief funds)

p.s. i'm not usually online during the day, so please be patient when sending me flickrmails about the toys adoptions. i will try my best to respond in the evenings. thanks. :)

thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness and big heart. xxxoooxoxoxxx!!! *biggest group hugs*

have a wonderful and safe weekend, dear everyone! xoxo^^

i did a special (to me) series of my favorite doodling heart character one night back in dec 2006 when i was heartbroken and mentally drained. this "'i'll catch your tears" is one of them and one of my favorites in the series... a really close friend of mine surprised me some time before my birthday last year with this precious gift...a handmade polyclay figure of the tear drop with a tear he's made for me... i was very touched. the figure is not perfect, but it is perfect to me, and a gift that i will always cherish... thank you very much again, k!! *hug* ^^

i wish you all, dear friends, that you have good friends who would catch your tears when your heart is broken... if not... i'll try to catch yours...^_~ *hugs*

Another one of my "depressing" images. I was implying how young love can be stiff and heartless.

This is Odin our Chihuahua he's missing someone left the back door open and he wonder away

we are heartbroken and miss him desperately. he's white, young and very friendly. Odin has zero street smarts and we are very worried about him. Please if you see him respond here. Last seen July 11 2014 in Oly Wa 98506

We found him locked in a fenced yard a 30 second walk from our home. Some people.

Love my backyard red house finches, I have about five families, this dad however has been working double time taking care of this sweet baby that clearly has a most horrible deformity!!! I feel completely helpless because I know he can never survive with half a beak, when dad stops feeding him he will surly die of starvation. Has anyone ever seen this in baby house finches??? Would trying to capture him do any good??? Feeling heartbroken.

(more in comments)

there going to be broken you know, like brittle china and cracked eggshells, you could try to fix them, stick them back together with cheap glue, but the pieces wont fit back anymore they will be all uneven and wonky. Everyone is broken, some more than others, but they just wont understand that yet, still living in their little nest protected from the world, there not ready to fly and your just going to force them out that nest anyway and watch them fall .

so i guess this could be the end

i dont usually write things like this, but i needed to, for me.
