There are many people who love to post selfies of themselves at the dentist. In the internet age, even the biggest Hollywood celebrities are doing this. However, there are those that do go a bit further, snapping directly from where the dentist chair is. However, some celebrities love to talk about the fact that they have other problems as well. While chipped teeth and fillings are a big one, grinding teeth is also something that can be detrimental to your health. However, most people don’t pay attention to it, but it’s actually a huge problem that is very common. Teeth grinding is a condition that many dentist will talk about, but often people don’t take it seriously. It’s also called #bruxism.

Now bruxism is a habit that affects many people, however, so many don’t realize it. The main reason, is because people are actually doing this at night, while they are sleeping. They do it unconsciously, but it’s definitely something that isn’t good for the health of the teeth. If you unconsciously grind your teeth, it then starts to push a lot of force on the teeth itself. This then causes chipping or damage to the #teeth which in turn will require more dental work than before. It can even loosen teeth if you’re not careful. It is common mostly in children under 11, but it is also a big problem with adults, especially those that are under a lot of stress.

Sometimes, you can feel the damage that you’re doing. Mouth pain might be there, soreness, and some damage can be seen if you’re grinding a lot. Other times, your dentist might notice this evidence through a cleaning. Tooth sensitivity is also a very obvious sign of this as well, and it can be seen on the surface too. If your dentist tells you that you have this, well it’s important that you act, because this can hurt your teeth permanently.

Now in most adults, it’s caused by #stress. While stress I small amounts is considered good, in those that have a large amount of it, it’ll negatively impact you. It can also come about because of bite problems, an overuse of various stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol, illicit drugs, and even tobacco, and even can be a side effect of various medications. Sometimes, people do notice it and they can get it under their thumb and control it. However, sometimes some don’t and they need some help with it.

If you’re stressed, and you’re doing this, it’s important to start to figure out a good routine to help with this, such as maybe exercising, meditation, a bath, or maybe some quiet time before you go to bed. These can help with the problem if it doesn’t reduce.

If this doesn’t fix it completely, there are other ways to help with this. While bruxism is a bite problem, albeit a small one, you can get a bite adjustment done at your #dentist. This is essentially taking a bit of enamel from the tooth that’s out of position, and bringing it in closer. If it’s way more serious, you might need to get orthodontic appliances put in, which are often the better solution.

Now, there are also custom mouth guards that you can put on as well. They are comfy and will secure themselves to the teeth easily. This will prevent your teeth from being damaged by touching each other, so if you are doing this, you can protect them. This will also protect the jaw from stress because of excessive grinding.

Now grinding is something that people often take for granted and don’t realize that they do until it’s too late. However, you don’t have to be like this, but instead, you can call you dentist and get the help that you need today. You owe it to yourself to have good, healthy teeth, and if you’re able to get this problem checked before it’s too late, you’ll be able to really feel the effects of it, and you’ll be able to have much healthier teeth. Tooth grinding is often a problem that should be taken care of right away.

I can't even imagine how many thousands of dollars have been taken out of my paychecks throughout the years for health insurance. I have maybe been to the doctor two times in the last five years. Maybe I should take more advantage, but really...I could see if I was paying into a fund that would be there for me when I am older and really need the frequent visits to the doctor, but it really isn't.

Will be interesting what this new legislation brings in the coming years.

Cancer can be treated in a number of ways. Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Immunotherapy, and Monoclonal Antibody Therapy are among the most popular. The choice of cancer therapy is made by looking at the stage of the disease and the state of the patient. The goal of cancer treatment is the complete removal of the cancer without significantly damaging the rest of the body. Sometimes a surgeon can remove the cancer easily, other times this is not possible. Chemotherapy and Radiation can be quite affective in killing cancer cells, but they are also toxic to healthy cells.

The Breast Cancer Run

Surgery

Theoretically, non-blood based cancers can be cured if entirely removed by surgery. This is easier said than done. If the cancer spreads to other parts of the body before surgery, it is usually impossible to remove all the cancer through surgery. Two of the most well know surgical procedures for removing cancer are mastectomy (where one or both of the breast are removed in an effort to treat breast cancer) and a prostatectomy (where all or part of the prostate gland are removed). Cancer can recur if a single cell is left behind after surgery. With this in mind a pathologist will carefully examine your surgical specimen to make sure there is a margin of healthy tissue present.

Surgery is also used to determine the stage (extent) of cancer. Staging is very important for determining a prognosis and treatment.

A Radiation Mask

Radiation Therapy

Radiation Therapy is the use of radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation can be giving externally through External Beam Radiotherapy (EBRT) or internally through Brachytherapy. The effects of radiation are concentrated on the area being treated. Radiation Therapy damages the DNA of the cancer cells making it impossible for them to grow and divide. Radiation Therapy damages both healthy and cancer cells, but healthy cells are able to recover from the Radiation. Radiation is given over several rounds so the healthy cells have a chance to recover between treatments.

Radiation is used to treat almost every type of cancer. The amount of Radiation that is given depends on the type of cancer and how close it is to major organs. As with every form of cancer treatment, radiation is not without side effects.

Steve after Radiation

Side Effects of Radiation Therapy

The side effects of Radiation Therapy can appear during treatment or years later. The nature of the side effects depend on where the radiation was received and how much. Some of the immediate side effects from radiation are burning on the skin, swelling, infertility, and fatigue. Some of the long term side effects fibrosis (loss of elasticity in the tissue that was treated), hair loss, dryness, and cancer.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the treatment of cancer with anticancer drugs. Most chemotherapy targets all rapidly dividing cells, and not just cancer cells. This means that often chemotherapy damages healthy cells as well as cancer cells. However, most healthy cells repair themselves after the chemotherapy has ended. Most patients are given a combination of chemotherapy drugs. It is important that you talk all drugs that are prescribed in combination with your chemotherapy.

Targeted Therapy

Targeted Therapy first became available in the late 1990s and it has proven to be very effective in treating some types of cancer. If you have questions about Targeted Therapy and how it can help you or your loved one, talk to your doctor. Your doctor will know what Targeted Therapies may be right for your cancer.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a set of strategies that will trigger a patient’s immune system to fight the tumor. Immunotherapy has been very affective on Renal Cell Carcinoma, Melanoma, and prostate cancer.

Hormonal Therapy

Hormonal therapy is used to block or provide certain hormones. They have been particularly effective in Breast and Prostate Cancers.

Tom getting chemo

Symptom Control

Some treatments are designed not to kill the cancer cells, but to control the symptoms of the cancer. This is very important for helping maintain a high quality of life for the cancer patient. Symptom Control is used for all stages of cancer, but particularly for end of life care. There is somewhat of a social stigma attached to the use of high power pain killers. Cancer patients should feel free to ask their doctor or Hospice provider about any medicine they take, especially if the patient feels the medicine is doing more harm than good. That being said, do not stop taking any medicines without consulting your health care provider first.

Complementary and Alternative Medicines

Consult your doctor and do lots of research before beginning any alternative treatment. Do not stop your other therapies or medicines in order to take an Alternative Medicine. No Alternative Treatments have been shown to effectively treat any form of cancer, and none are FDA approved.

Clinical Trials

Clinical Trials test new treatments on people with cancer. The goal of these studies is to find better ways to treat cancer and help cancer patients. Patients who take part in clinical trails get the best available standard of care for their cancer, however there is no guarantee that the new treatment will work. If the treatment does work, those in the trial are among the first to benefit from the new treatment.

Community health workers are supposed to report to the PHU. But our research suggests that the strength of connections between the two varies dramatically from one place to the next.

In some cases, for example, community health workers appear to be in far closer contact with the local organizations that trained them.

These weak relationships are of particular cause for concern, as is the limited training community health workers currently receive.

U.S. HEALTH CARE: AT THE CROSSROADS

A whole lot has changed since Mark Bertolini, back in 2010, took the helm at Aetna, the (now) $63 billion health insurer: The Affordable Care Act, barely then a law, has launched and (kind of) death spiraled. Opioids have become an acknowledged public health enemy. Wellness has become a corporate mantra. Big data, AI, and blockchain, once mere Silicon Valley buzzwords, have become ways of business that health care companies cannot ignore. The whole system has consolidated, while a formidable crew of outsiders—Google, Apple, Amazon—appear poised to disrupt everything. Bertolini has been at the center of it all—in an intimate and candid conversation with Fortune Editor-in-Chief Clifton Leaf, he’ll talk about navigating one of the nation’s largest health insurers (and the 43rd-largest public company in America) through these waters, and about his final act—Aetna’s transformational deal with CVS—and what it means about the future of health care in America.

Whenever I hear people bemoaning health and safety legislation - as if keeping folk healthy and safe can in any way be construed as a bad thing - I have to shake my head.

Children could go anywhere and do anything without the nanny state watching over them, these absolute pillocks will cry. Yes and they could be hurt, abused, maimed and killed. Shoved into coal mines, worked nearly to death on farms and in factories and of course allowed to skate on the thin ice of the village pond and to drown.

Whenever you bemoan health and safety you are doing the bosses evil work for them. People who would happily see their workforce injured, crippled and killed for their own profit. You are also spitting on the graves of generations of brave trade unionists who fought for and achieved better and safer conditions for workers and in doing so created a better safer culture for society as a whole.

A World Vision volunteer educates rural children and their guardians on the importance using toilets and why it helps keep them healthy.

Children and their family members are told to wear sandals rather than go barefoot, to keep toilets clean, and to wash after use with soap or ash. They are also reminded not to go outside and if children do, to make sure they clean up and dispose of their waste immediately.

The Government of Bangladesh wants all people to be using toilets by 2010 in accordance with promises made under the Dhaka Declaration at the South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN) in October 2003.

The activities photographed are part of the health and nutrition activities taking place in World Vision Bangladesh’s Kaliganj Area Development Programme. The project aims to educate groups of rural women about how to prepare nutritious food for their children. The approach has led to a reduction in childhood malnutrition in hundreds of communities. The project also focuses on promoting normal childhood development.

Since 2010, a basic package of medicines and items have been provided for free under Sierra Leone’s Free Health Care Initiative, such as essential drugs and mosquito nets (pictured here being unloaded at a PHU).

But PHU staff reportedly sometimes still charge for these services. While traditional healers also ask for payment in exchange for their services, the terms are more flexible: Payments can be in-kind and made over time.
