He's still around from Easter. He looks a tiny bit evil but I really like him. He's got weird head gear and one day I might show this in a future MM week.
Second life easily gets boring and this became my last challenge.

To tell gender in American Bald Eagles, look at their relative sizes. The female (on the right) is about 30% larger than the male (on the left). You can even see the difference in the beaks.

He flew away FAST and posed for no more shots. Lightly marked with a lot of blue for a male. These are from wild swallowtails that laid eggs in our yard ... that I took in after predators took out half of the caterpillars in one night last August. They've been with me 8 months ... and more still to open!
UPDATE 4-24-22: we've released 8 - including 4 in one day - all healthy! As of 4-26-22 hoping we released one more ...

He kept following me around while I was looking for Big Foot in the swamp, saying take my picture, take my picture, so of course I did. They're so cute anyway. I'm sure he was wondering if I wasn't Big Foot and he wanted to remember what I looked like so he could tell his friends about me later.

ID? I don't think he's a skipper but I'm not sure.
Update: Thank you for your ID help... he seems to be either a Fiery Skipper (Hylephila phyleus), or a Taxiles Skipper Butterfly. I'll be sure to ask him next time he visits.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear that this fella returned to Surrey for another year. He was 2 weeks later than last year but so many of our summer migrants have been late returning this year. So as he's travelled so far it would have been rude not to go and pay him a vist.
He won't get far, I've taken care of that...
