Attempt # 2 at 'painting' with a bed sheet. The idea was to make a stream through the woods, but since I was standing with the sheet over my head (trying to hide myself) the shots where I was close to the camera blocked out the bottom half of the frame. So I took the liberty of erasing some parts to get the point across. Next time I'll wear black (so I don't need to hide) and try to keep the sheet down low when I'm close to the camera. I also want to tie it to a broom stick so I can go higher.
However, after looking at this photo, I think I need to make some mashed potatoes, too :^)
I made it sans food coloring. I would like to try using some natural coloring like beet juice (pink), etc.
This is a tried and true recipe we use to use at the nursery school I worked at yeeeeeeears ago. It's super quick and easy.
(Quasi) No-cook Play Dough
DRY STUFF:
1 C all purpose flour
½ C salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
WET STUFF:
1 C boiling water (I do a little extra in case I need to add some more)
1 tbs cooking oil
½ tsp food coloring (optional)
Mix the dry stuff together in a mixing bowl.
Microwave water for 4-5 minutes or heat to boiling on stove top.
Mix wet stuff.
Add wet stuff to dry stuff and mix together.
Stir until mixed thoroughly (add a little more water if needed)
Set aside until cool enough to handle with bare fingers (grown-ups)
Knead until you get a Play Doh consistency - it will be softer than store bought, but should still hold together without sticking to hands.
Repeat recipe for additional colors.
Store in a zip-loc bag or air tight container.
Spice it up:
Add dry spices like cinnamon or nutmeg
Or
Extracts like vanilla or almond
Or
Add glitter to make ‘sparkle’ play dough

Made little paper Hula dresses for these eggs and painted their faces using photoshop. =)
Raining continues in the weekend.
We are not in shortage of rain drops everywhere. Water drops are always my favorite. So I took a shot of them again on my car trunk.
My car is in the boring silver. So I twisted the color a bit to red.

We had a sunny afternoon on Sunday. Bright sunny day is good infrared day to me. So I went to Britannia Shipyard and had a few IR shots.
How can we have fresh views on the familiar scenes? We shoot them in different light.
- shoot them on sunrise
- shoot them at sunset
- shoot day time long exposure
- shoot them at night
- shoot them in back light
- shoot them in blue hours
To achieve more drastic redefinition of tones, we strip off the colors and we take B&W shots.
To do even more aggressive re-distribution of tones, we take infrared shots. Infrared is the typical example of “what you see is not what get” in photography.
We cannot accurately project how the scene will look like in infrared since things have different reflectivity with infrared.
It is more and more becoming a guess work to me when I do infrared. But this is the part with most fun. There has to be something not totally under your control and that is where the fun comes from. It is very different from something you try to do with editing software.

Not exactly sure of the location of this image. All I know is that we passed through a small hamlet of houses, just before reaching Walton. Quite a few of the houses looked past their best and were in need of some TLC. This one caught my eye, lovely old place, had a great barn too!
This is my last shot now until I return from my trip away. I really don't have much time to comment as I am so behind with stuff I need to get done. Normal service will be resumed around Feb 10.
Walton is one of the border communities of the Minus Basin the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Municipal District of East Hants.
The Minas Basin forms the eastern part of the Bay of Fundy which splits at Cape Chignecto and is delineated by the massive headland of Cape Split. The Minas Basin is split into four sections: Cobequid Bay, from the mouth of the Salmon River to a narrow point between Economy and the Noel Shore; Central Minas Basin, from the mouth of Cobequid Bay to the narrow point between Parrsboro and Cape Blomidon; the Southern Bight, from the mouth of the Avon River to the narrow point between Cape Blomidon and the Noel Shore; and the Minas Channel, from Central Minas Basin to the narrow line between Cape Chignecto and the Annapolis Valley Shore.
Several important rivers in Nova Scotia drain into the Minas Basin: Shubenacadie River, Cornwallis River, Avon River, and the Salmon River. Lesser rivers include the Diligent River, Farrell River, and Debert River.
Along the northern edge of the Minas Basin lies a chain of intermittent high-cliffed basaltic bluffs and islands called the Basalt Headlands.

Kids love face painting. They would like cat faces, scary faces, clown face ....
Perhaps kids don't know about it. In the world of adults, there is face painting too. It is called role playing.
The role playing happens mostly in corporate board rooms, political debate or forum, interviews, speeches or public speaking or at home!
Shooting the face painting of kids is interesting. Will it be equally interesting if we shoot adult role playing?
