The meagre lighthouse all in white, haunting the seaboard, as if it were the ghost of an edifice that had once had colour and rotundity, dripped melancholy tears after its late buffeting by the waves. ~Charles Dickens,
The Bodie Island Lighthouse is my favorite of the lights along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This lighthouse shines bright over the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Lore has it that it's namesake was due to the number of bodies washed ashore from the many ships resting on the ocean floor, just off these shores
If my parents had never let me stay up and watch the Friday Night Movie of the Week which often featured classic monster and Hammer horror movies, I doubt that I would have fostered such a love for fog. So, thanks Mom and Dad for my obscura atmospheric obsession. Really, for me, life would be so boring without it! :)

Guys, this Castle is a popular tourist spot in Perak, Malaysia. It has always been 'listed' as the most haunted place in Malaysia. So much so, that when we passed by here (we never intend to actually visit it) my sister strictly prohibited me to even go near and capture this mysterious place!! sigh!! She was worried as we had a baby and kids (my nieces..) with us!!
I was really upset coz I could not explore this wonderful place!! Maybe next time when I go without my family members (sometimes outing with family members just suck becoz of this kinna problems.. LOL!!) I can actually get my camera working!!
This was shot just outside my sis's car, so sorry guys it does not show the whole castle. There were trees & plants obstructing the view so I had to crop it!!
Here are the details 'plucked' from Wikipedia;
Kellie's Castle (sometimes also called Kellie's Folly) is located near Batu Gajah, and is about 20 minutes' drive from Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. The unfinished, ruined mansion, was built by a Scottish planter called William Kellie Smith. According to differing accounts, it was either a gift for his wife or a home for his son.
Unfortunately for Smith, tragedies struck soon after the construction of the Kellas House began. A virulent strain of the Spanish flu spread from Europe to Asia soon after World War I ended in Europe, killing many of the workers in the Kellas Estate. Another seventy workers constructing Smith's dream castle also became victims of the flu. Smith, who had already spent a fortune on his house, lost a lot of money because of this.
In the end, Kellas House, later known as Kellie's Castle or even Kellie's Folly to some, was never completed. William Kellie Smith himself died of pneumonia during a short trip to Portugal in 1926. His heartbroken wife decided to pack up and return home to Scotland selling the estate and Kellie's Castle to a British company called Harrisons and Crosfield. Descendants of the Tamil labourers brought over to Malaya to work on the mansion still live nearby even now. Kellie's Castle is now a popular local tourist attraction and was used as a setting in the 1999 film Anna and the King.
Enchanted: Forest of Light at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge, California. Beautiful setting and truly enchanting light, a surrealistic abstract. These are trees bathed in blue light. Truly experimental for me, as I am not experienced in this sort of photography and it was all hand-held, using high ISO.

Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.
I pre-focused as this gentleman was looking to his right and clicked the shutter just as he turned forwards and stared right down the barrel of the lens. I see a gentleness in his eyes but one that is haunted by his life experiences, the stories almost etched into his drawn and pale face. A striking shot that I am very proud of and best enjoyed full screen by pressing 'L' or clicking on the image.
“An enchanted life has many moments when the heart is overwhelmed with beauty and the imagination is electrified by some haunting quality in the world or by a spirit or voice speaking from deep within a thing, a place, or a person. Enchantment may be”

Just before going up to this floor, the guy starting to work in of the rooms on the floor below said "Make sure you say hello to the ghost girl up there if you see her."
He didn't know I am interested in the paranormal, he didn't even know me so I followed with a "huh?" He went to tell me that his father was on this floor a couple weeks ago and a girl asked him where the attorney's was because she was looking for it but could not find it. He turned to her and pointed down the hall to about where this shot was taken. He then realized why would anyone be in here, no one was using this building. He turned to look for her and, yup, you guessed it, she wasn't there. No one was there except for him.
of mine, not sure when low cloud becomes fog, but here on top of the downs, I think it is low cloud, and it is pouring down.

Or crabapple tree ghosts? My backyard is definitely haunted though! So I sent this spooky instant off to @iamina as part of @jenbroideroid ‘s Polaroid Global Exchange. Can’t wait for the next one!

Never one to miss an opportunity I thought I would use the misty conditions to my advantage. So I drove along to a very misty St Chads churchyard to see if I could come up with something a little different :)
I can say one thing for sure, when you're alone in a graveyard in dark misty conditions you can hear the slightest of sounds, creepy to say the least, but in a bizarre way I enjoyed it.....
And yes thats me pretending to be a Ghost for added effect..good job nobody was walking by at the time, they would have either got a fright or thought I was a complete and utter weirdo...

No, not that James Joyce.
"O death, rock me asleep,
Bring on my quiet rest
Let pass my weery guiltless ghost
Out of my careful breast."
- said to be written by Anne Boleyn, in the Tower of London before her execution.
This is an imaginative piece of processing that brings to mind that quote from the Marquise du Deffand, Marie Anne de Vichy Chamrond. "Do I believe in ghosts? No, but I am afraid of them." Personally I don't mind being in graveyards, even at night.
In Roger Clarke's fascinating book, "A Natural History of Ghosts: 500 Years of Hunting for Proof" (Penguin, 2012), he makes the point that whilst proof of the existence of ghosts is difficult to find, what is absolutely clear is that people do see them. We can make of that what we will according to our beliefs.
One English photographer, who made it his life's work to explore the haunted buildings and ruins of England and Ireland, was Sir Simon Marsden (1948-2012). Marsden published some classic books of his romantic gothic photographs, and they have also been featured on the album covers of U2. Marsden was a pioneer of using infrared film, and this gives his photographs an otherworldly feel. Two of his best books that I highly recommend are, "This Spectred Isle" (2005), and "Memento Mori: Churches and Churchyards of England" (2007). Examples of Marsden's work can be found at The Marsden Archive. www.marsdenarchive.com/library/
This piece of my photo art is not infrared, merely digital processing. However starting tomorrow I want to show you some contemporary examples of real infrared photography and the moods it can create.

You like my bird-sung gardens: wings and flowers;
Calm landscapes for emotion; star-lit lawns;
And Youth against the sun-rise ... ‘Not profound;
‘But such a haunting music in the sound:
‘Do it once more; it helps us to forget’.
Sigfried Sassoon, from "Prelude to an Unwritten Masterpiece".
But while the earth sinks to its grave,
You sail to the sky on the crest of a wave.
So forget this cruel world where I belong,
I'll just sit and wait and sing my song.
Day 198/366 of Project 365 (Wednesday, 2020 July 16 - 67th consecutive daily photo): Having received a total of 1.07 inches of rain in the last 13 hours, a light rain persists in the morning hours. In this photo shot through a rain-spattered car window, the trunk of a Callery Pear casts a haunting image.

Thank you very much for your comments and faves, regretfully, I am finding it increasingly difficult to reply to your comments, because of my very limited time on the internet, due to constant power interruptions in South Africa. I do read and appreciate every one of them! Thanks again!!
Old abandoned cotton farm in the Texas Panhandle. Nobody was in the house, nobody around for miles. When the photo was downloaded and post-processed, a human-like figure showed up in the doorway. Look close in a larger size.

I've seen this church on quite a few of my contacts photostreams and finally found it. Here's my take on this awesome place. I could spend days here, I'm sure I'll be back.
Comments and criticism good or bad always welcome but since I never entered any kind of contest, I don't need any cheesy 80's glittery banners, signs, icons, huge photos or awards! They look like shit and are ridiculously tacky and annoying! They get removed as soon as I see them so please don't even bother. If you were nice enough to stop by my photostream and leave a comment I will return the favour, no need to leave a huge picture telling me to check out your stream. Thanks ;-)

EXPLORE #309
I've always found the common snipe to be particularly elusive but they make a haunting 'winnowing' sound which is very distinctive. A small, stocky wader I always feel lucky to spot a snipe as the moment is often fleeting such as this encounter on the isle of Uist in the Outer Hebrides.
The Hauntings is a 21,33 ft -high artwork, made entirely of wrought iron.
The sculpture is located on the photo island near the Menin Gate in Ypres.
This image faces the Menin Gate, symbolically representing the names of those who never returned from the battlefield.
The initiative for the statue came from Jo Oliver, who lives in the Dorset and Somerset area.
In her youth, Jo heard a story of a young soldier wandering through the misty fields.
You could hear him, feel him, and sometimes even see him as he searched for his home, his beloved and peaceful destination.
When she later moved near these fields, Jo saw it as her commission to have this figure sculpted from a welded frame of discarded metal.
The intricate details that filter the light through his form give the sculpture a mystical aura.
This soldier is the common man.
He is not affiliated with any race, politics, or love of war. It plays a vital role in commemorating all that is good in the common man challenged by war or other adversity.
After its installation at the Menin Gate, the statue will return to the United Kingdom on April 19th 2026, to its final permanent location: the estate of Jo and her husband, Paul.
Because eggs embody the essence of life, people from ancient times to the modern day have surrounded them with magical beliefs, endowing them with the power not only to create life but to prophesy the future.
Eggs symbolize birth and are believed to ensure fertility. They also symbolize rebirth, and thus long life and even immortality.
Eggs represent life in its various stages of development, encompassing the mystery and magic of creation. Creation myths commonly describe how the universe was hatched from an egg, often laid by some mythical water bird swimming in the primordial waters...Early mythmakers viewed both the sun and the egg as the source of all life; the round, yellow yolk even symbolized the sun.
Clearly, eggs had great symbolic potential...In Europe of pagan and Christian times, eggs symbolized life and resurrection.
