~happy fence friday~

Although autumn has now well and truly given way to winter here in Melbourne, there is still a great deal of colour around if you remember to take your time, stop and smell the roses, like this dainty little pale pink beauty which I saw on poking its head out from amidst a hedge of bright red berries on a walk in early June.

The day I took this photo was a lovely and sunny day with bright blue skies: although there was a definite crispness in the air if you were out of the sun.

Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it . . .

Morning has broken, Cat Stevens

www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0TInLOJuUM

Morning has broken like the first morning

Blackbird has spoken like the first bird

Praise for the singing

Praise for the morning

Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven

Like the first dew fall on the first grass

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden

Sprung in completeness where His feet pass

Mine is the sunlight

Mine is the morning

Born of the one light Eden saw play

Praise with elation, praise every morning

God's recreation of the new day

Morning has broken like the first morning

Blackbird has spoken like the first bird

Praise for the singing

Praise for the morning

Praise for them springing fresh from the world

My husband has enjoyed MacroMondays for as many years as I have. He asks the theme and then heads for his computer man cave or garage work space and brings me little tools.

This is a grouping of something called round stock in metric sizes with a twine wrap to keep them together. When in a tight circle they measure about 1 inch/ 2.54cm, but I couldn't quite figure out how to stand them to capture that tight circle. Someday...

Many thanks for looking and for commenting!

Yellowhammer - Emberiza Citrinella

The yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) is a passerine bird in the bunting family that is native to Eurasia and has been introduced to New Zealand and Australia. Most European birds remain in the breeding range year-round, but the eastern subspecies is partially migratory, with much of the population wintering further south. The male yellowhammer has a bright yellow head, streaked brown back, chestnut rump and yellow underparts. Other plumages are duller versions of the same pattern. The yellowhammer is common in open areas with some shrubs or trees, and forms small flocks in winter. Its song has a rhythm like "A little bit of bread and no cheese". The song is very similar to that of its closest relative, the pine bunting, with which it interbreeds.

Yellowhammer males learn their songs from their fathers, and over the course of time regional dialects have developed, with minor differences to the conclusion of the basic song; all are mutually recognised by birds from different areas. Each male has an individual repertoire of song variants within its regional dialect; females tend to mate with males that share their dialect, and prefer those with the largest repertoires.

The pine bunting and yellowhammer are so closely related that each responds to the other's song. The male yellowhammer's song is more attractive to females, and is one reason for the dominance of that species where the ranges overlap.

Yellowhammers of the British and Irish race, E. c. caliginosa were introduced to New Zealand by local acclimatisation societies in 1862, and soon spread over the main islands. They sometimes visit New Zealand's subantarctic islands, although rarely staying to breed, and have reached Australia's Lord Howe Island on a number of occasions. At the beginning of the 20th century, this bunting was seen as a serious agricultural pest in its adopted country.

Populations of yellowhammer have also been introduced to the Falkland Islands, and South Africa.

The yellowhammer is a bird of dry open country, preferably with a range of vegetation types and some trees from which to sing. It is absent from urban areas, forests and wetlands. Probably originally found at forest edges and large clearing, it has benefited from traditional agriculture, which created extensive open areas with hedges and clumps of trees.

Populations have declined in recent decades in western Europe, including the British Isles, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria and Italy. The yellowhammer is a red-list (severely declining) species in Ireland and the UK In eastern Europe, numbers appear to be stable, although the trend in Russia is unknown. Changes to agricultural practices are thought to be responsible for reduced breeding densities. The introduced population in New Zealand has been very successful, with breeding densities much higher than in the UK.

Over the howe, on the far hillside, the winter sun rises behind this stand of trees. If I catch it at just the right moment a cloud of birds rise up together from their nests. I caught just a couple of stragglers this morning.

Winter has shown up in our area now with temperatures below zero, frozen lakes and beautiful sunshine. Compared tor the last months with rain, clouds and shades of grey this is a significant improvement. Dear winter, we love you. But please do not stay too long and give way to spring. dieses Bild entstand nur wenige Minuten nach dem vorherigen... und welch ein Unterschied!!!

English Bay has spectacular daily sunsets and you do not even have to leave your 100 sq ft apartment to see one. This beach is actually officially called Sunset . Condominiums are taking over the edge of the ocean all around the city with exception of Stanley Park. I actually thought someone employed a large bearing from mining machine or large mixer to use it as a sculpture. I found out, that it was made by French artist Bernar Venet for Vancouver Biennale (2007?). He calls it poetically 217.5 Arc x 13.

I went to Jericho Beach with two Flickr friends on Friday morning. At first, the clouds were very thick, but then the sun came through the clouds and created a magical light against the Vancouver city skyline.

Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

Good Friday morning everyone, and one again wishing all a great and safe day and weekend.

As we can see here in our Florida wetlands Spring has Sprung and love is in the air, and of course once again I over shot this series with many many images.

Santiago Island has the biggest and longest lava flow, which is located in Sullivan Bay. Geologically speaking, this island is one of the most beautiful and unbelievable formations. The vast basaltic landscape performs smooth and unbroken surfaces with undulations and nods formed by the fluid lava that created the sculpture. It is located on the central west of the archipelago and is formed by two overlapping volcanoes. It is the 4th biggest of the Galapagos archipelago.

It has been said that the lack of pollinators could lead to starvation and poverty. A small insect such as a bee is important as roughly 66 per cent of all the plant species we eat rely on pollinators. With the use of insecticides such as Neonicotinoids that are making an impact on pollinators around the world. Latest evidence shows the risk that insecticides are having and which may affect us all in the future.

This is one of my photos that has been stolen and used with an image of the Forth Bridge (probably also stolen) by a guy from FreakingNews. In FreakingNews he is called "johnx1" and he has posted there:

"My email and phone are going mental with orders for prints from all over the world and I just got a request to use the image from a science fiction mag who want it on the cover of their next issue."

I have written to him, but he has not replied, so if you know him, he's from Rosyth, Kingdom of Fife, Scotland, and describes himself as a "joiner carpenter, artist and writer", let me know please. If you see this image turn up on a magazine or you have anything to do with FreakingNews and can help, I'd be grateful.

Please feel free to fave or comment on this image, the more of you that do will mean the more people will get to see it and I have a better chance of nailing this thieving SOB.

I have not given him or anyone else permission to use my photo in any way.

My dear daughter, another year has flown,

As you turn seven, you've really grown.

I may not be there on this special day,

But in my heart, I'm there to stay.

I miss you more than words can say,

But I'm sending my love on your birthday.

I hope your day is filled with joy and cheer,

And all the things that you hold dear.

You're a smart and talented little girl,

And I'm proud of you more than the world.

No matter where life takes us, remember this,

You're always my daughter, my little miss.

Happy Birthday, my sweet angel,

May your day be magical and unforgettable.

I love you more than words can express,

My dear daughter, you are truly blessed.

( I only see my little girl from time to time, but every time I'm with her I want her to feel that she has a true father... always )

I just love moments like this, so peaceful

This has been a really good day…

Hi all !!

There you go, I worked on this photo. I love this character. My crazy little demon from the future. He still has his lover and robot ... still his conscience and dragon. And he still continues to do stupid things. Even though I struggle in the cyber world, I love taking pictures of this character more and more. Maybe I should give him a name ... I tried to do a "movement" on this picture... Hope you like it!

¡Alguna vez has mirado

al mar desde lo alto

descubriendo ensenadas,

playas y verdes puntas

que se adentran en la mar,

y con gusto la complacen

bañándolas con su sal!

Nunca dejes de mirar

que si vas al horizonte

allá el cielo te regala

los azules que el mar toma

y los guarda entre sus aguas

para podértelos obsequiar.

The Chieftains - The morning dew.

Where has all the water gone it was a temporary canal while another was built around it many years ago the trouble being it had to cross a river somehow now has an aqueduct over the river at a higher level near by.

My Bob has had a rough week... last Thursday we had to rush him to the emergency vet because he was staining to make.... he was yowling all over the house, staining while he was walking.... the vet said his bladder was full and he had a blockage.... after flushing him out in both areas, we took him home... a few days and he still acted strange... constantly going in and out of the box and nothing... but then he did make and what a relief...

On Monday I took him to our vet and she did a lot of tests, even a urine culture.... thank goodness his levels are not bad and he's acting like his old self.... he is 17 years old!

She put him on an antibiotic for a week and I'm hoping that will also help him feel better.

It's so scary and heartbreaking when you know they don't feel well and they can't tell you what is wrong...

Thank God he is doing better... so we want to wish everyone a Happy Caturday and enjoy the rest of the weekend!!
