I love hard work - I could sit and watch it for hours. Stager House had a large log jammed under the dock, wearing away the dock supports as it moved. Two of my engineering friends (one being a Stager - up on the deck) worked on extricating it. The "three ropes" approach did not work (although the ropes may have eventually helped!) It was necessary to get some of the weight off the log with the float first (allowing the friend in the water to lift it and shove it - repeatedly because of snags on the log.) It was about 55 degrees water temperature but the friend in the water cheerfully said he went numb almost immediately so it was O.K. (good sport).

North-East men were hard workers, though general masses seemed to drink a lot. And women were all the more hard working, and they were straightforward and sweet.
