How are all the beautiful bricks of Bhakatpur made, and who works in the brick factories around the city? Ratna Prasad Prajapati, the owner of KP Brick Industry, invited me for tea and told me how he started small 30 years ago and now employs 400 men and women to produce high-quality bricks. He said the cheap competition from China and India makes life difficult for them. Could I take photos on the premises? Of course, he was delighted by my interest! #nepal #brickfields #hardwork #tradition #bhaktapur
momoko sensei: "Stand straight! Leg up! Higher!! Chin down!"
Well, momoko sensei seems very strict and tutu ruruko is seriously taking her ballet lesson!! :D
Two hardworking CP SD40-2s lead a ballast train through Tochty, rolling beneath the mountain peaks on another busy day in the Elk Valley. Always a treat to catch these classic locomotives still earning their keep.
If you know the train symbol (e.g. a work train designation), the locomotive numbers, or the date, I can make it sound even more like a professional Flickr caption.
I believe the pair produced three youngsters last year. The three may be supporting the adults in building this year's nest. The two extras seen in the tree a few days ago are a mystery. At least three birds were ferrying materials to and fro this evening.

We think it is only we who toil for that bread on our dinner table - what we miss out is the hard work of the hundreds on the way.

The children at the villages enroute to Tonle Sap are probably the most special children I have ever met in my life. Unbelievably and infinitely happy when playing, even though they do not have many material comforts... And extremely responsible and hard working too. This girl was slicing very small fish (it needs tiny hands and a sharp knife to slice fillets), not sure what they use them for - didn't seem as if it was meant for cooking...
So engrossed in her work that she hardly noticed me. I squatted in front of her and waited for her to take notice of me. And when she did, I got this expression of surprise and amusement, not sure what would've gone through her mind. To me, this photograph is priceless. A nameless face. Amongst the hundreds that I met that day. And I hope that one day soon, I can give something back to them. These kids are special. Very very very special.
