An inf platoon charges out to close assault a stalled Char. A MMG keeps the crew inside as they charge through the field. The next random event card came up 'surrender' so we applied it to this hapless tank crew. I believe that was a first in our games.
This old-timer has seen quite a few fights in his day. By that I mean he's responsible for singlehandedly slaughtering droves of hapless mooks.
One's hoping the other will share the savory glob of deer guts it just pilfered from a hapless pair of Black Vultures scavenging a carcass along Buckeystown Pike.
This Tropical Orb Weaver (Eriophora ravilla) is seen just completing its "shrink wrap" of this hapless bee.
Quince Hunt 2003:
See Pam? Okay, see that concrete culvert ditch behind her? See the road behind the ditch? That road is in Canada. No barbed wire, german shepherds, HUMV's mounting M-60's, not even some hapless, toothless rent-a-cop. There's a little bridge over the culvert -- just stroll over that and take a walk in Canada, like we did. Oh, the other side of the sign -- that house-like structure? City of Blaine Park (dog walking) regulations so the Canadiens know how to act when they come over here with their puppies.
With all the Kabuki Theatre over homeland security, and maniacs like Giuliani wanting us to relive 9/11 and shrink-wrap the US, its hard to belive that this is really and truly an International Border, and it hasn't changed in the five years since this photo was taken (or so I'm told).
This hapless pigeon had somehow managed to get a slice of bread stuck round its neck, presumably as a result of pecking through the middle.
In the pursuit of inflicting cruel and unusual punishment on hapless unsuspecting waterlilies, this should serve as an example. Hardy waterlily Nymphaea Red spider is lapping up the full repetoire of gratuitous acts of benign neglect
Spring beckons a handsome bevy of lilypads with handsome speckled markings and rustic brown tones which give way to plainer green tones as the first puff of Summer heat starts to shimmer on the water
Set upon a two gallon pot in shallow water, well shaded, on a pond where the water level fluctuates some, crowded some by Cabomba and brutish cattails, this tortured example gets full shade most of the day with a brief blast of full sun for a few hours at midday
One of the days I'll give it a break and provide it with its first ever feed, but then, most of the hardies seem to plunk along moderately well, doing sedate blooms without any nudging

Lonely Planet says, "[The statue was c]ommissioned in Spain under instruction to give the good lady a crown of flames, nobody thought to iron out the double meaning of the word flame in Spanish (llama), and the hapless craftsman duly placed a delightful little llama on her head."
Hubby bought tickets off his co-worker to see my beloved Wings play the Penguins in Saturday night's preseason game. I joyfully donned my Yzerman jersey and ventured into what was CLEARLY enemy territory to cheer on my team.
My demeanor was notably subdued from my usual extra-feisty Wings game behaviour, but being off home turf can do that to a person.
Heh heh heh. The Wings won, as I knew they would.
(That said, the Wings had some embarrassingly sloppy passing going on, not to mention at least one lucky-bounce goal. None of this stopped the nine Red Wings fans at Mellon Arena from enjoying the game, of course.)
A cacophony of bird sounds with my morning coffee on the porch. The sound of thousands of Snow Geese was broken up by the jarring cries of a dozen crows dive-bombing this hapless Great Horned Owl. The crows had him pinned down in the cherry tree in my back yard!!! Yowsers!! What a start to the day.
Drosera cistiflora
Common Names: Doublom Sundew
Family: Droseraceae
Seen in Glencairn, Cape Town, South Africa
Drosera has been recorded for use against various ailments. Extracts of the leaves were used externally for warts, corns and sunburn. Disorders such as tuberculosis, asthma, coughs, eye and ear infection, liver pain, morning sickness, stomach conditions, syphilis, toothache and intestinal problems were treated internally with teas or extracts made from the leaves. The tea was also used as a tranquillizer and some believe that it has aphrodisiac properties. Anti-spasmodic agents have been found by scientists in some Drosera species.
Probably the most interesting characteristic of this plant is its ability to digest the nutrients, especially the nitrogen it requires from insects caught in its stalked tentacles. The tentacles are sensitive and mobile. The stalks end in a bulbous head in which the glandular cells occur. These glands secret a glistening, sticky, clear fluid used to trap and retain prey. There is speculation that the fluid is slightly sweetly scented to attract insects. The fluid contains a weak acid and enzymes that digest the soft parts of its prey. The sensitive tentacles are able to detect caught prey and produce more dew to entrap their victim. Neighbouring tentacles then mobilize and slowly lean over to engulf the hapless victim.

nelcarch: @7bc further, his contempt for archaeology and archaeologists is palpable. We are not hacks who haplessly ravage historical sites! Clearly Miles has his view, this wasn't sacrifice, and he is finding things to back his theory. The reality tho is in numerous locations there have been found tophets (which wasn't made up by archaeologist! It's a biblical term!!!) and each tophet has similar characteristics. They match. They each have infant remains and yes Miles, there have been tophets found in the Levant; several. He's so misguided and really (REALLY) aggravating me! Ugh
7bc: @nelcarch Hi Jennifer. I was expecting such a reply and I'm happy to hear a different point of view. Sorry to have you made buy his book. May be he's more of a film producer than an archeologist. But tell me, what did you think about the hole video? I think it's nice for the public. Did you watch the images of Tunisia and Carthage ?
nelcarch: @7bc you didn't make me do anything, I bought the book on my own accord. The video is nice when I mute his annoying voice. :) Sorry. Yes, the scenery is amazing. A very beautiful location indeed.
nelcarch: @7bc so I'm still annoyed with Miles. Today, when I was reading about sacrificium, which is the roman version of sacrifice, the verbiage the Romans used when offering a sacrifice (repayment of a vow) was the same as that used by the Carthaginians / Phoenicians / Punic's. So why oh why oh why does Miles want to say otherwise??? Yes; sacrificing babies isn't pleasant, but every religion practices sacrifice. Heck, I'm catholic and we do it now at every mass! Like it's not a smear campaign against the Carthaginians it's historical truth. Period. Ya know what Miles is? An historical revisionist. Yep. There. Now I'm done with him! Hahaha
7bc: @nelcarch Sorry to have introduce you to preposterous Miles. I told you, I'm ignorant in this field and I'm not in search of pro Carthaginians history. I just want to know and understand.
nelcarch: @7bc I understand. I'm happy to answer or help inform you any way I can. Miles just got under my skin! Haha. That's my fault not yours. And you are not ignorant, you are learning, and I'm happy to help. :)
7bc: @nelcarch Sunday morning, I'm planning to go to the Louvre Museum to wander around mesopotamian, phenician and grec departments.
nelcarch: @7bc I am so jealous! Please post lots of pictures!!!!

Actually, these two dolphins are just fine! They are "strand feeding"! This is apparently a learned behavior that seems to be unique to Atlantic bottlenose dolphins along the Georgia and South Carolina coast. The dolphins work as a team to drive fish up onto the sand, and the dolphins come out of the water, on to the sand to eat the hapless fish. I had never seen this before, and it was AMAZING to witness!!
I know the picture quality leaves A LOT to be desired; unfortunately, this was the best photo out of all the ones I took while the dolphins were strand feeding...
Their hapless goalie has his arms out in a "surely not a goal, ref?" sort of gesture. He should instead be castigating his two near post defenders. Only one of ours there, but it was Toney, always a handful, and somehow they let it go by, possibly untouched. It then landed really close to the goal - where was the goalie? Then it bounced up nicely, saying "please put me in the net - these Gunners seem to be encouraging that".
The “Ballad of St George and the Dragon” a play in 12 minutes, adapted by the Lions part from a 500 year old song about St Eglamore, is performed in London, Wednesday, April 23, 2018. It tells the timeless tale of St George, depicted by the Lions part as a hapless knight who slays the dragon and then regrets it! At its center is our flawed hero and the death and resurrection of the dragon, transformed by laughter to release its precious and immortal secrets! Adaptable, amusing and delightful to watch, “The Ballad of St George and the Dragon” has all the hallmarks of the Lions part street theater style. MG2437

Human trafficking continues to capture the imagination of the global public. Gut wrenching narratives about girls kept as sexual slaves and sold into domestic servitude appear on front pages of newspapers, in academic journals, and in books. Public discourse emphasizes the particular vulnerability of trafficked children, related to bio-physiological, social, behavioral, and cognitive phases of the maturation process and underscores the necessity to act in the children's best interest. Trafficked children are always portrayed as hapless victims forced into the trafficking situation and hardly ever as actors with a great deal of volition participating in the decision to migrate.
This lecture explores the coexistence of agency and vulnerability and the interplay of trauma and resiliency in survivors of child trafficking.

"Season's Greetings" by Alan Ayckbourn. Nov 1995. I am playing Uncle Bernard, the hapless embarassing relation who thinks he understands children, but doesn't. Here I am about to perform my atrocious puppet show. Seated left is my good friend, the late Ken Horsman, playing the psycopathic and terrifying Uncle Harvey. This was to be Ken's last part before succumbing to a long and distressing illness. He died in 2009.

This is Bert Williams, in costume and character. Williams was the first black star of stage and screen, and the highest paid entertainer of his day (the early 1900's). Although often trapped in the guise of the minstrel, Williams was such a fine performer that he communicated the plight of the hapless, comic Negro as universal.
I drove down to the Los Angeles River to see if the recent rains had raised the water level much. There was no dramatic storm surge, but I did spot this egret waiting for a meal. The water is moving left to right in this image, but just in front of the egret is a trough or obstacle that causes a backwash that exposes hapless fish.
The image wasn't especially exciting by itself. The water was murky and gray and the light was not particularly special. So, I decided to play with the image to see what I could do. I ran several filters on it, and greatly enhanced the color of the water. The final result is something of a hybrid photograph/woodblock print.
And just to be clear, the title refers to the computerized processing of photographic images in the movie Sin City. It's not a reference to Las Vegas.
Just after pouncing on a hapless snack.
I observed this Hawk Owl for about 2 hours. He was hunting the entire time and probably caught 6 or 7 rodents (mice or voles, couldn't tell) during that time. He perched on an exposed snag or short conifer in a clearing. After flying for about 20 feet, he'd drop to the ground, snare his prey and then fly back to a perch. I saw him swallow the rodents whole, and one time actually heard him tearing at his prey. It was amazing to watch.

Corporate Crimes Against Water Are Crimes Against Life! .
Re,sist Corporates Which Poison Water and Deny People The Right to Safe Drinking Water! .
.
If a man poisons someone, he is liable to get a death sentence. But all over the world, big corporations are guilty of poisoning vast areas of water and soil, thus killing and harming millions. Most ofthe time, they go scot-free. But sometimes, local communities, which are the silent victims of these crimes, fight back. One of the internationally acclaimed landmark str, uggles against corporate killers is that of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims against Union-Carbide-Dow Chemicals. .
Twenty years bac~, the explosion in the Union Carbide Pesticide Factory in Bhopal killed 8000 people, and has poisoned 20,000 since. The toxic legacy of that horror is still a living reality for the people of Bhopal. Toxins still leak into the water supply and the soil. Babies are born deformed, children fail to grow, those who survived the night of December 2, 1984, endure chronic health problems: menstrual irregularities that lead to early menopause, fevers, tuberculosis, cancers. .
Even before the 'Gas Leak Tragedy', Union Carbide was routinely poisoning the vicinity of its factory, by dumping deadly pesticides, solvents, catalysts and wastes in and around the factory grounds. .
Over the years, the groundwater supplying an estimated 20,000 Bhopal residents has become heavily contaminated by Union Carbide's toxic by-products. According to a 2002 study by the Fact Finding Mission on Bhopal, many of Union Carbide's most dangerous toxins can now be found in the breast milk of mothers living around the factory. .
Despite this, Union Carbide and its present owner, Dow Chemicals, have shrugged off responsibility for cleaning up the area, or for providing medical care and compensation for its victims. .
What have the costs been like for Union Carbide's hapless workers and ne1ghbours? Twenty years ago Rash ida Bi and Champa Devi Shukla, two women married at the age of 13, lived near the Union Carbide pesticide factory in Bhopal. On the night of December 2, 1984, when the lethal leak happened, they tried to escape with their families, fleeing on streets full of dead bodies, burning flesh, rotting animals. .
Champa·s eldest son killed himself in 1992, depressed because his breathlessness left him unemployed. One daughter is partially paralyzed; a granddaughter was born without an upper lip. Rashid a Bi, too has had her life devastated by the factory. .
Rashida Bi and Champa Devi have waged a brave battle to demand justice from Union Carbide, now owned by Dow Chemical Company, They have won the Goldman Environmental Prize, given annually to grassroots environmental heroes, and have donated their prize money to a trust for Bhopal children deformed by the poisoned gas and water. .
In 1989 Union Carbide agreed to pay $470 million in damages-amounting to a mere $500 per victim. This is not much more than a daily cup of tea-as 'compensation' for a lifetime of unimaginable suffering! But Kathy Hunt, Dow's Public Affairs specialist, displayed classic corporate racism and callousness in July of 2002, saying, "$500 is plenty good for an Indian." Union Carbide, by contrast. enjoyed a jump in share price of 44 cents after the settlement was announced, wiping out any damage to the corporation's value that the accident had caused. .
To this day, the treatment of the Bhopal victims is impeded because Dow-Carbide callously refuses to share its medical information on the toxic effects of the gases released that night, regarding the information as a "trade secret". .
20,000 Bhopal residents are forced to drink water heavily contaminated by Carbide's chemicals. In May 2004, the Supreme Court ordered the MP Government to provide clean piped water to the Bhopal victims -a directive which the MP Govt. is yet to obey. The Government claims to be supplying 360,000 litres of water per day, the actual supply in August 2004 was a little over 42,000 litres per day, according to data collected by the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal. .

What happens when you sit down to make for the sake of making. One stitch after another with no clear destination, just moving hands and color changes. Once it becomes what it is, I choose to embrace the wonky thing. It turns out, it is more useful and loved than I thought it could be.
Now, I never upload three images at a time so, the explanation.
As described by the image showing two hapless photogs at the zoo, the disease kicked in again today. Thus a trip to the local photography shop and a few dollars later, I now own a wide angle lens 10 to 20 mm. So a few shots just to try it out.
Michael, the son of a funeral director grows indifferent to his father and joins a Seminary. On his way to the course completion, he is overwhelmed by a strong lack of faith. His religious beliefs are further jolted when he sees a young girl haplessly dying in a road accident for whom he reluctantly performs the ritual to absolve her sins. His mentor still believes in him and urges him to go to Italy to take an exorcism course hoping that he it would strengthen his faith in Christianity. In Italy he attends a session from Father Xavier who soon becomes aware of his skepticism. As a result he sends him to an eminent Jesuit exorcist, Father Lucas, whose ways though questionable are quite effective. He witnesses the exorcism of a sixteen year old girl but still seems unconvinced. Father Lucas explains him that it takes multiple sessions over a long stretch of time to completely free a victim from the demon...
In Powell and Weedin's book Cacti of Texas (2008) this plant has been named "aggeria." It is perhaps the most benign of the Dog Chollas because its' stems pretty much stick together and do not attach themselves to hapless passers by. I accidentally kicked one barefoot recently and I can report, personally, that the spines are much more loosely attached!
