Once again I've used porcelain and resin to create this necklace. Shades of pink, blue and white. Toggle fastener ends this piece. Sweet:)
The cross stitch is something Mama did. I'm guessing it was before 1993, because I've found several pieces from '93 on she initialled and included the year. The flowers are something that I crocheted.
ok, some tips in case anyone is interested on including cross-stitch on a page... I decided to sew it, but didn't want to sew it onto the background, so I cut a mat to sew it on that, time was running out, so I decided to do it on the sewing machine. Even though I usually sew straight, the cross-stitch kept slipping, and since it's cross-stitch, it's very easy to see when something is not exactly straight. So I decided to attach it to the mat with brads. Why didn't I think of brads to start with? I chose brads that complimented the piece, and wound up removing the mat and letting it stand on its own.

As we mark the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, Something from Nothing: Art and Handcrafted Objects from America's Concentration Camps presents artifacts from the permanent collection of the National Japanese American Historical Society. These objects tell the story of disrupted lives, and the resourceful ways in which the American detainees survived bleak, unjust conditions by using available materials to recreate and preserve home, tradition, and community. Two art installations by contemporary artists Barbara Horiuchi and Marlene Iyemura provide later generations' reflection.
