For Noah, the embroidered sugar skulls are from Sublime Stitching patterns in the Embroidered Effects book.
In tribute to a school project that I was able to help with (he scored 125 out of 100 - that's New Math, I think). :)
The color is off (too much flash?), see entire pic for with the closest actual color representation. Pictures taken by my nephew via phone (thank you)!
I finally came up with a proper banner for my blog. My own design and my favourite poem.
What do you think?
A collage of fabrics, papers, digital print, paint, hand embroidery and machine stitching, postage stamps.

Another new headband design using felt...of course it's felt!! I decided to try something new..I've always loved to look at appliques and wanted to create a small scene using felt so..the entire felted medallion is only 2 3/4" round..The birdie and leaves were quite a challenge as they are only about the size of a pea..maybe even smaller...
I have this great recycled felt made form plastic bottles and some has great embossed detailing on it..hence the brown piece for the tree..if you look closely you can see the design..There are about 5-6 layers of felt used here and I hand embroidered some detailing around the grass and leaves.
A pink polka dotted felt was used as the background or the tree..making their own pink apples..I added some glass pink beads for dimension..Blanket stitching was done around the perimeters of the felt discs..all sewn onto a stretchy cotton pink headband..

For Cameron, patterns from Sublime Stitching, "Forest Friends". Again, the color isn't quite accurate; my niece took the photo for me with a camera phone.
Earrings made with howlite, marble and glass beads and silk soutache braids. It's made with hand embroidered technique, every stich is hand made :)
Nina went to preschool for the first time. It's a huge change for everybody, specially for her, and I wanted her to have something very special to go along with her, even when I'm not present. I decided to make her the backpack, even at the risk of not being able to compete with all those backpacks with tv cartoons out there (everyone who has 3 years old kids know what I mean). We both agreed that I would make her a very special backpack, and that she would have her favourite cartoons on other stuff, like her water bottle and lunch box. I got her involved on the design process, in order to catch her interest. Together, we decided it would have an hedgehog, that we both love, and she said she wanted it to be "under a tree's shadow". She chose pink (of course), and I took care of the rest, secretly. I imagined some kind of child's story scenario, in a forest full of flowers and nice animals, something that would give her some peace and fantasy. I played with colours and used a different shade for the side panel, and another for the zipper. For the lining, I used a cute fabric full of hearts ("look Nina, those are our hearts, from our family, who is always with you"). I hand stitched her name and then added this tiny detail, a wooden bird to help her pull the zipper. She loved it, and this mother's heart got a little lighter, knowing everything will be ok...

This is the Athena / Athene Owl bag on black fabric with my Athena statue, little owl and ancient classic oil burner. It is embroidered with metallic threads. This bag is big enough for a large sized Tarot Deck or Oracle Cards. People have also used these bags for jewellery, crystals, runes and more!
The bear is actually quite small and the headband is medium sized so won't appear like this on your child's head...just used it as a reference for the head.

Thank You Robert Hubbell for the patience and for allowing me into a little bit of your world. This is for you.
If you haven't seen the photo that inspired this piece it is in the Threadstar & Fatslick70 collaboration set.
You all know how I adore the PBK Penelope collection!! I have been wanting to translate that into a pair of baby booties for quite some time. My ability to creatively craft lately has been hampered by much stress at home..so I have been away from it..but glad to get back in the swing I hope..
Please see my profile for a link to these booties...
