Diamond League athletics at the Birmingham Grand Prix, Alexander Stadium. Marvin Bracy (USA) won the 100m final in 9.93 (PB). Adam Gemili (GBR) was 2nd in a PB 9.97 (making him one of few Brits to have achieved a time under 10 seconds). 3rd was Mike Rodgers (USA) in 9.97 (sic).
Gemili blamed pyrotechnics for his fall, which resulted in a hamstring injury that could jeopardise his participation in the World Championships in Beijing.
Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend) is a foundational pose that many yoga practitioners breeze past. But extending the top half of the body over the seated lower half helps stretch the entire back of you body to enhance your physical flexibility. Folding inward in this way also brings mental calm.
Pose benefits
In addition to calming your mind and relieving stress, this pose stretches your spine, shoulders and hamstrings. This posture also stimulates the liver, kidneys, ovaries and uterus—and can help improve digestion.

[edit] 2003 season
Infante entered the 2003 season as the starting shortstop for the Detroit Tigers. Ramón Santiago, considered a better glove-man started the season at second base. Considered 2 of the Tigers better prospects, both proved overmatched; Infante hit only .222 with 0 home runs and 8 RBI in over 200 at-bats. Midway through the season, Tigers manager Alan Trammell sent Infante to the minor leagues for failiing to hustle on a consistent basis. Santiago switched to shortstop after Infante was sent down.
[edit] 2004 season
In 2004, Infante lost any chance to claim the starting shortstop role when the Tigers acquired Carlos Guillén, who went on to be an All-Star that year (Ramón Santiago had been included in the trade for Guillén) . With Guillén at shortstop and free agent acquisition Fernando Viña at second base, Infante was likely to spend much of the season in the minors. Then he received an opportunity in mid-May to play every day at second base when Viña was sidelined for the year by a hamstring injury. He responded by playing solid defense and hitting .264 with 16 home runs and 55 RBI in 142 games.
[edit] 2005 season
Infante's rebound in 2004 fueled speculation that he may one day become a star at second base. In 2005, however, he regressed, and the Tigers sought his replacement. In June of that year, the Tigers traded for Plácido Polanco, who had been filling a utility role with the Philadelphia Phillies. Polanco became the starting second baseman, and Infante moved to the bench.
[edit] 2006 and 2007
Following his move to the bench, Infante became a valuable asset as a backup infielder and outfielder. He proved his versatility by filling in at 7 different positions during the 2007 season. Infante also displayed the best offensive numbers of his career.
[edit] 2008
On November 12, 2007 Infante was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Jacque Jones.
On December 4, 2007 Infante was traded again, this time along with Will Ohman to the Atlanta Braves for Jose Ascanio. A Cub for less than a month during the off-season, Infante never appeared in a game.
[edit] 2009
On January 12, 2008 Infante signed a two-year contract worth 4.3 million with the Atlanta Braves.[1]
[edit] 2010
National League manager Charlie Manuel selected Infante to the 2010 National League All-Star Team, earning Infante his first selection after proving to be one of the most valuable utility men in the National League. Infante was one of six Braves on the All-Star team.

Many a pulled hamstring awaits the over-enthusiastic fliers.
The North Carolina Tar Heels, a power five program out of the Atlantic Coast Conference, dealt Old Dominion its first home defeat since November 2015. But in the loss, ODU gained a new starting quarterback.
True freshman Steven Williams, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson H.S. in Washington, D.C., replaced starting quarterback Jordan Hoy and backup QB Blake LaRussa in the 53-23 loss.
"When you don't have a first down in the first quarter and you have no energy on the sideline because the players feel it, you have to make the move," ODU head football coach Bobby Wilder explained. "I didn't go into this game thinking [Williams] would play."
Seeing his first action, the 17 year old Williams completed 9-of-20 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble. Williams added 34 rushing yards on seven attempts.
"We haven't developed an identity on offense," Wilder noted. "Stevie Williams today gave us an identity. Steven Williams is the quarterback of the Old Dominion football team moving forward."
"They just said 'let's go," Williams explained of how he learned he was about to receive his first college playing time. "My teammates were all behind me. I just had to go do my job and we'll be fine."
Old Dominion outscored North Carolina (1-2), 16-14, in the second half, after trailing the Tar Heels, 39-7, at the half.
Prior to the game, ODU learned All-Conference USA running back Ray Lawry, the program's all-time leading rusher, has a torn hamstring. Head coach Bobby Wilder reveals the injury could keep Lawry sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Bow legs & Knock knees are a condition in which the shape of the legs is distorted and very noticeable from a distance. tinyurl.com/y95mewb6
The person tends to have a peculiar gait and this is quite often accompanied by joint pain. The knees and ankles of bow legs sufferers never come close to each other, no matter how straight they stand with their feet together. This not only causes their knees to weaken, but can also lead to them turning inward. All of this makes physical activity and outdoor sports very difficult. In many cases, especially the severe ones, bow legs patients tend to opt for surgical intervention to correct this condition. However, surgery is not always everyone's first choice.
The knee muscles help in supporting the knee joint, and the core muscles present in the abdominal region are vital for posture and balance. Strengthening these muscles will not only help the knee joint but will also take away some of the unnecessary load on the joint by correcting posture and balance. We've put some of these useful exercises below...
Curling the Hamstring muscle
You'll need to hold on to some furniture that can provide you with reliable support for this exercise, such as a chair. Then, with the left arm taking support of the chair, raise the heel of the right leg towards the buttocks until the knee forms an angle of around 90°. Hold this position for around 15 seconds and release. Repeat this process one more time with the same leg, and then move over to the next leg, balancing oneself with the other hand. Do this around 5 times with each leg, to begin with.
Sitting against the wall
Face away from a wall, with your back flat against its surface, and toes pointing forwards. Take around 2 steps away from the wall, and then bend your knees while allowing your entire back to push against the wall. You should now feel as if you were sitting in an invisible chair, maintaining the position for around 1 minute. Return to the starting position, repeating the exercise immediately, and twice more during the day.
Stepping up a gradient
Find a stair or platform six inches above ground level and place the left foot on this six-inch elevation. Push your body up while straightening your left leg, so that the right leg is dangling for at least 3 seconds above ground. Repeat the same routine with the other leg, and do the whole exercise twice, repeating it thrice a day, to start off with. tinyurl.com/y95mewb6
Squats on one leg
Stand up straight, using your left hand to support yourself against a wall or chair. Bending your right knee, lift your right leg above the ground, with your toes pointing downwards. Then, slowly crouch down as much as possible, bending the knee of the left leg as if about to sit in a chair. Please ensure that the position of your left knee does not fall beyond that of the toes. Repeat this at least twice, and then move on to the other leg.

A classical batsman with a wide range of shots and seemingly all the time in the world to play them, Martin Crowe came from a cricketing family - his father had played in the first-class game and brother Jeff represented New Zealand - and made his Test debut aged 19, quickly being tagged with the label of best young batsman in the world. He broke a series of record, despite being blighted by injuries which included a broken shin, back trouble, torn hamstrings and in latter years, serious knee injuries.
With Richard Hadlee, Crowe was at the heart of a New Zealand side which enjoyed considerable success in the 1980s After an excellent season at Somerset in 1984, he was lured back to lead the side in 1987. But it followed the departure of Viv Richards, Joel Garner and Ian Botham, and the spell there was not happy and was also blighted by some barbed media coverage of his private life.
Hadlee's retirement only served to increase the pressure on him, but in 1994 he led the line, almost hobbling at times, with 380 runs in three Tests against England. He carried on for another 18 months but the final few Tests were too much for his crumbling body.
After retiring, he took up as a commentator with Sky in New Zealand as well as heading their cricket coverage behind the scenes. He was also the man who came up with Cricket Max, for a time a success in New Zealand but a format which never caught on elsewhere.
03-21-1978 in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, Dominican Republic. Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1994. Cristian Antonio Guzmán is a Dominican baseball infielder who is currently a free agent. Guzmán was acquired by the Minnesota Twins in 1998 from the New York Yankees organization as part of the Chuck Knoblauch trade. In 2001, Guzmán was named to the AL All-Star team and posted career bests with 10 home runs and a .302 batting average. He was a key part of the Twins teams that won three consecutive American League Central titles from 2002-2004. While a Twin, he led the American League in triples in 2000 (20), 2001 (14) and 2003 (14). His total of 20 in 2000 was only the tenth time a player had reached that number in the last 70 years. After becoming a free agent, Guzmán signed a $16.8 million, four-year contract with the Washington Nationals for the 2005 season but then proceeded to have the worst year of his career. As the full-time shortstop, he was batting .192 at the end of August, but rallied in September, hitting .325, which helped bring his average up to .219. Three days after the disastrous 2005 season, Guzmán had eye surgery, which he credited as a prime reason for his resurgence in the following years. Guzmán was sidelined for the entire 2006 campaign with a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery, but returned in 2007 as the Nationals' starting shortstop following the trade of second baseman José Vidro to the Seattle Mariners and the move of Felipe López to second base. On March 30, 2008, Guzmán got the first hit in the history of Nationals Park, a broken bat single to right off Atlanta Braves starter Tim Hudson. He followed with the first run in the history of the park, after an RBI double by Nick Johnson. He made the NL All-Star team as the Nationals' lone representative in 2008. He ended up playing third base in the All-Star Game, and made some crucial fielding plays at that position, even though he had previously only played shortstop as a major leaguer. On August 28, 2008, Guzmán hit for the cycle against the Los Angeles Dodgers; only the second cycle in Nationals history. Guzman signed a two-year contract extension to stay with the Nats. He finished the 2008 season as 4th the league in hits and batting average by the all-star break in 2009, he was fourth among active players for triples. On July 31, 2010, the Texas Rangers acquired Guzmán from the Nationals for two minor leaguers. Guzmán signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians on February 21, 2012. After suffering a strained hamstring during spring training, he was released by the Indians on March 28. His career stats:1999 – 2004 Minnesota Twins; 2005 – 2010 Washington Nationals; 2010 Texas Rangers. Career stats: 11 seasons: G:1406 / AB:5382 / R:727 / H:1459 / HR:62 / RBI:467 / BA:0.271. Final Game: September 8, 2010 (current stats as summer 2012).
A bin man swaps steel-toed boots for stilettos to chase his dream of becoming a drag queen. But will he overcome the cost of living crisis, an anti-woke boyfriend and inflexible hamstrings on his quest to be crowned Miss Stoke? Living in a small Northern town, the show begins as Wasteman’s relationship ends. As he makes something fabulous in the most un-fabulous of situations, expect triple threat talent, raucous laughs and lightning fast wig changes as he prepares for the competition in just four weeks, all while fleeing from the ghosts of his past.
Inspired by my real-life experiences working as a Refuse Loader during lockdown, this ‘drag oddysey’ is a love letter to hard-working Northerners and gender euphoria expressed through monologue, music, and drag. During the pandemic, I applied for every job available. In need of a career that would not be halted due to lockdown, I turned to refuse collection. To remain creative, I started to entertain my friends by hosting drag quizzes on Zoom as ‘Mariah Scary’. And so, the journey from bin-man to drag queen began.
The show has has since enjoyed a sell-out run at the Vault Festival and has been nominated for four awards, including two West End ‘Offies’. It is previewing at the Brighton Fringe before going up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as a recipient of the prestigious Keep It Fringe Fund funded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
As a young person born up North, I didn't get to see any stories about where I was from. And as a young queer person from a land far beyond London, stories about towns and lives like mine were non- existent. For this reason, I am over the moon to be bringing Wasteman to the Greater Manchestre Fringe. I believe that stories about gender expression are particularly necessary in the current climate. The piece fuses my passions for monologue, character-comedy, drag, musical theatre, and unusual day jobs.

Elephants very quickly learn where they're safe and where they're not, this bull is one of a small group that hang around the Zakouma HQ area during the dry season. After everything that these elephant's have been through it's remarkable that any of them are willing to trust humans at all. However they are such intelligent animals that not only do they know where there safe but they also know who their friends are and these bulls that come to the Park Director Rian Labuschagne's house have learned to take water from a garden hosepipe.
For roughly 6 months of the year between June and November Zakouma National Park is almost entirely inundated with floodwaters at this time elephants would often disperse into the surrounding area of what is now the Salamat Faunal Reserve. During this time Arab horsemen from the Darfur region of neighbouring Sudan would come to hunt the elephants as they had done for perhaps several hundred years. Traditionally a group of up to 20 horsemen armed with lances would charge a herd aiming to separate out one of the elephants. A single horseman would then ride in front of this elephant to draw its attention and get it to pursue him allowing the other men to ride in and spear it from behind with their lances. They would aim for the elephant’s hamstrings in its hind legs which if severed would bring the animal down and ensure it could not get up again. Huge numbers of elephants were killed this way and in response the surviving herds in the region have learned that at the first sign of horsemen their best defence is bunch up into tight groups to ensure that no individual can be separated out.
Today this is no defence the horsemen are Janjaweed militiamen and members of the Sudanese armed forces and they come not with the lances used by their ancestors but with AK47s, belt-fed machine guns and rocket propelled grenades. This habit of bunching up into a single large herd has meant that the poachers can easily kill 50-60 elephants in a single attack by simply machine gunning the terrified animals as they try to escape. In 2005 an aerial count found 3,885 elephants in Zakouma and the surrounding area in under a decade the population was reduced to just 430 and had stopped breeding due to the constant stress. Since African Parks took over Zakouma the poaching has been almost entirely stopped and the elephants are breeding again the population has recently passed 500.

Pose of the week is one of my top three core strengthening postures, called Boat Pose, in Sanskrit Paripurna Navasana. The pose can be practiced in many variations that would be suitable for every ability (toes touching the ground, knees bent, hands/forearms on the ground or extended outwards). This version helps stretch tight hamstrings (much needed and appreciated after walking around Port Jeff, especially while not wearing comfortable walking shoes). It strengthens the core without compromising any joints (I know some have wrists issues, feet, ankles or other arthritic joints which can affect and compromise the practice in poses such as planks or other core strengthening postures).
Photo of the Boat Pose was taken while on the boat/ferry ride back from Port Jefferson to Bridgeport. Thank you Charles Wills for taking the picture & Karlisse for being the best company a mom can ask for! Enjoy the practice of this pose anytime and anywhere.
08-11-1984; Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2001. Melky Astacio Cabrera is a Major League Baseball centerfielder. On November 13, 2001, at age 17, Cabrera was signed by the New York Yankees. In 2002, at age 18, he made his pro debut with the Yankees Rookie League affiliate in the Dominican Summer League. In 2003, he made his first minor league appearance with the High Rookie team in the NY-Penn League with the Staten Island Yankees, batting .283 with 31 RBI in 67 games. In 2004, he moved up to Single-A with the Battle Creek Yankees, hitting .333 with 16 RBI in 42 games before being promoted to the High Single-A Tampa Yankees, where he hit .288 with 51 RBI in 85 games to finish the season. In 2005, Cabrera started off with the Double-A Trenton Thunder, hitting .275 with 60 RBI in 106 games. At the end of June, he was called up to the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. On July 7, 2005, he made his major league debut. However, he only played six games before he was moved back down to Columbus. In 2006, he started the season in Columbus, but due to injuries to Hideki Matsui and Gary Sheffield, he became the everyday left fielder for the Yankees. During the 2009 Spring Training, Melky changed his number from #28 to #53. He changed his number because he wanted to have the same number he wore when he played Winter League. Former Yankee, Bobby Abreu wore number 53 before Cabrera changed numbers. Abreu played for the Yankees from the mid season of 2006 through 2008. On December 22, 2009, Cabrera was traded to the Atlanta Braves with Mike Dunn and pitching prospect Arodys Vizcaino for Javier Vázquez and Boone Logan. Cabrera signed a one year deal with the Braves avoiding arbitration. On December 9, 2010, Cabrera signed a one-year, contract with the Kansas City Royals. In his breakout 2011 season, Cabrera set career highs in RBIs (87), runs scored (102), stolen bases (20), home runs (18), and batting average (.305), while also finishing 4th in the American League in hits, with 201. On November 7, 2011, Melky Cabrera was traded to the San Francisco Giants for left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sánchez and minor league pitcher Ryan Verdugo. On August 15, 2012, Cabrera was suspended for 50 games without pay for testing positive for high levels of testosterone, suggesting usage of MLB-proscribed performance-enhancing drugs. He admitted using a banned substance and was forced to accept the suspension. The suspension was effective immediately, meaning that Cabrera would take no further part for the remainder of the 2012 season. The suspension would also rule him out to start the 2013 season or if the Giants play enough games in the postseason (if the team clinched). Prior to his suspension, he led the majors with 159 hits and was second in the NL with a .346 batting average. He ended his suspension-shortened season with 11 home runs, 10 triples, 60 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 18 opportunities. One of Cabrera's associates purchased a website for $10,000 and falsified its contents in a way that would have allowed Cabrera to challenge his suspension by claiming that the positive test was caused by a substance sold through that website, but MLB officials and federal investigators used forensics to trace the website back to Cabrera. At his own request, Cabrera was ruled ineligible to win the 2012 NL batting title. Cabrera signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on November 19, 2012. In a game against the Detroit Tigers on April 9, 2013, Cabrera recorded his 1,000th career hit, a single off starter Aníbal Sánchez. Cabrera battled a sore hamstring and quadriceps muscle through the first two months of the regular season, but the injuries did not warrant time on the disabled list. Cabrera was occasionally removed from games in the later innings to rest his legs. After the 2014 season, Cabrera signed a three-year contract with the Chicago White Sox. In his first season with the White Sox in 2015, Cabrera played 158 games batting .273 with 36 doubles, 12 home runs, and 77 RBIs In his second season with the White Sox in 2016, Cabrera played 151 games batting .296 with 14 home runs. In his third year with the White Sox before being traded to the Kansas City Royals, Cabrera batted .295 with 13 home runs and 56 RBIs in 98 games. The White Sox traded Cabrera to the Royals for A. J. Puckett and Andre Davis on July 30, 2017. On April 25, 2018, Cabrera signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians. On May 20, he was called up by the Indians. Cabrera was designated for assignment on June 14, cleared waivers on June 18, and elected free agency. He re-signed a minor league contract with the Indians on July 5, 2018. The Indians purchased Cabrera's contract for a second time on July 20, 2018.

I like watching the rippling of the water, with the fading sunlight glimmering off its surface.
Today was a particularly good day for my legs.
Ever since I began to run last August, four months post-surgery, I have not felt comfortable with my legs. First, due to muscular weakness from not using my legs in high impact activities for the prior five months since I sustained my knee injury, I would experience pain with every step in my left leg from knee down to my toes--anterior tibialis, calf, ankle and toes all must coordinate to absorb shock. Then, last November, as a result of increasing my intensity and still favoring my right leg when fatigued, I incurred an overuse injury in my right leg, straining my calf. It is impossible to do anything with your legs without involving your calf muscles. This has taken forever to heal, in part because every time it felt a little better, I would attempt to go for a run and re-strain it. Fantastic. Come on, cut me a break! Exhibit some patience.
Anyway, so I think it's finally feeling alright now, so I went for a run today and I don't think it hurt. Afterwards, when I was striding back and forth warming down, however, a medial hamstring tendon in the back of my left knee felt tweaked. We'll see how that goes. I have this dire fear of my knee swelling up and being in pain and losing function of my leg all over again. Such is a thing I wish to never experience ever again.
What I find discombobulating is how simple motions like running do not come naturally to my legs anymore. I have to think about each stride--how hard to push off, to lift, how I should land on my feet, where to strike down relative to the rest of my body, which muscles I need to activate to effectively shock absorb, whether each leg is doing the same thing to the same intensity... It is as if knee surgery has purged my leg of a lifetime of muscular memory.
I have ambitions. One of them is to strive for the day when my legs will function again without pain. I have been told my knee will never feel the same again, but the hope is that it will function and just feel like nothing, because that is what normal is.
Having a massive upper body while neglecting quads, glutes, and hamstrings will cause you to topple over in the ocean.

Several elephants in Zakouma's main herd have been fitted with tracking collars so that the herd's location can be established at all times in order to protect them from poachers. Having first established their location from the air Zakouma National Park Director Rian Labuschagne attempts to pick up their signal from the ground.
Since African Parks took over Zakouma the poaching has been almost entirely stopped and the elephants are breeding again the population now stands at around 470.
After so many years of poaching most of Zakouma's elephants still generally stick together in a single big herd and often keep to the thick bush making them difficult to find.

James Vince plays an on-drive to a ball from Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rhaman at the start of England's innings. Vince was given a run after opener Jason Roy injured a hamstring. In this game he scored 26 from 31 balls in an opening stand of 44. However, he has been out playing bad shots too many times since.
James Vince once again failed to convince and should be considered an ex-England player.
Even after establishing where the elephants were thanks to their tracking collars actually spotting them in the thick Vachelia (Acacia) seyal bush was very difficult. This tree provided a good vantage point from which to look for them.

Springtime is when beauty pushes and twists through the earth after a long dark sleep and emerges triumphant. This is a time for new beginnings, a chance to purify and to direct our hearts toward the light! A great practice leading toward twisted lunge will create a grounded stabilizing state of being connecting you to mother earth, purifying you and opening you to heavenly Grace.
Standing in tadasana (mountain pose) with parallel feet, hip width apart extending your energy down into the earth while you tone your legs lifting the knee caps, with a inhalation stretch your arms overhead weaving fingers together turning the palms toward the sky catching the rays of the sun. Exhale as you bring arms to your side.
Keeping all muscular engagement of the legs, inhale and extend the arms behind your back, interlacing fingers, keeping shoulder blades moving down the back, exhale softening between shoulder blades, scooping the tail bone under, moving the sides of the waist back in honor of the Universal and aim your heart at the sky.

Repeat other side.
