Parure en micro-mosaïques de l’impératrice Marie-Louise (Micro-Mosaic Parure of Empress Marie-Louise), on display in Room 705 (Galerie d’Apollon) of the Denon Wing, designed by Antoine-Pierre Chanat and François-Régnault Nitot, dates to 1809.
This parure, consisting of a a pair of bracelets and earrings (along with, not pictured, a comb and necklace), is crafted in gold and decorated with intricate glass micromosaics. Though lacking precious gemstones, it features exquisite craftsmanship in its fine mosaic work. Commissioned by Napoleon I and presented to Marie-Louise, Archduchess of Austria, upon their marriage in 1810, the set exemplifies the era’s opulent yet delicate imperial style. Despite the absence of diamonds or emeralds, it was still recorded in the inventory of the French Crown Jewels, illustrating its significance as a political and personal gift.
