Mount Hunter or Begguya is a mountain in Denali National Park in Alaska. It is approximately eight miles (13 km) south of Denali, the highest peak in North America. "Begguya" means "Child of Denali" in the Dena'ina language. Mount Hunter is the third-highest major peak in the Alaska Range.
Despite being much lower in elevation than Denali Mount Hunter is a more difficult climb, due to its steep faces and corniced ridges; it also sees far less traffic than its larger neighbor.

A pair of Steel-blue Cricket Hunter Wasps circled my yard for several days. The only place they would stop was on the orange flowers of the Butterfly Weed.
They strongly resemble Blue Mud Dauber Wasps, which have a longer pedicel (the "stalk" that connects their thorax to their abdomen).
Butterfly Weed is a native plant species, and my favorite Michigan wildflower. Ironically, I have never seen a butterfly land on the flowers, although it does attract a variety of wasps and hornets.

Throughout the week we were at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge, we observed this mated pair hunting. Their favorite lookout seemed to be this one pole. Their success as hunters could be seen by the bones, feathers and fur lying at the foot of their perch, that is, whatever the scavenging crows and gulls did not carry away.
Numerous poles have been erected to give eagles and other raptors vantage points in an otherwise nearly treeless expanse.
I watched from pretty far away as these two hunted together. This is not the first time that I have watched a Coyote hunting in the distance with a Northern Harrier following him around. This particular Harrier was even landing right next to the Coyote and just hanging out. It is so incredible to watch.
Bryce Canyon NP. "The Hunter" is the name of the large hoodoo on the left. Bryce in winter time is even more spectacular than otherwise. The snow provides a striking contrast to the orange-hued rocks. In this shot, the angle of the sunlight helped make the image more 3-dimensional. Many of my other shots came out looking too flat.
I find it amazing how herons can pierce the skin of a fish without having to pin it against a solid surface. After spearing this catfish and then dropping it on an area of mud and lily pads, a juvenile bald eagle swooped in as the catfish flopped around. The heron stood tall and let out a harsh screech, scaring the eagle off.

In an area as urbanized as the Bay Area, it seems a bit unusual to see this, but it's not, really.
I was photographing an event where I work inworld when I spotted Hunter and thought to myself, this avatar would be perfect for a shot I've been trying to take. Now how can I ask him without sounding creepy? Fortunately for me, he didn't think I was a weirdo for asking, and generously gifted some of his time to pose for me. There are no edits to this shot, which I took using a single inworld light source. Captured with the Black Dragon viewer.

The Hunter’s Moon drops below the clouds on its way to the horizon on a brisk October morning. Warm sunrise light shines through to the ridges of Kiowa Peak and clouds draped on the Continental Divide. The wind (20 km/h- 40 mph gusts) made shooting this a challenge- even with adding weight to the tripod there was a fairly significant movement at slow shutter speeds, and I had to increase the iso up a bit. The forecast suggested a breezy cool cloudless morning, but the sky drama added nicely to the scene. Winter on the horizon… literally.
The full moon of October is called the Hunter’s Moon to denote the time of the year when game have bulked up for the winter season, and the leaves helping to hide them from hunters have fallen from the trees and shrubs, making them more vulnerable.
