Tree ferns (Cyathea lepifera or Sphaeropteris lepifera) proliferate at Kinsakubaru Primeval Forest, a portion of World Heritage Site in Amami Island, Japan. Our guide told us that they are 15 m in height.

Huge white bird with long neck and all-black bill. Immatures dusky gray-brown with pink on bill. Forages in shallow, vegetated wetlands reaching under the water for plants, and walks through corn stubble. Breeds in freshwater marshes and ponds. Winters on any open body of water where food is available. Extremely similar to Tundra Swan, but never shows yellow on bill. Also, note subtle features of face: facial skin is relatively broad where it meets eye, so the eye doesn't stand out, and border between white face and black bill is straight (curved on Tundra). From head-on, the border of the bill and forehead is usually pointed (straight or curved on Tundra). Often in pairs or family groups. Almost went extinct in early 20th century, but population has rebounded and been reintroduced to some areas. (eBird)
This swan was an unusual find in Victoria. It was nice to see one without wing tags - most of the Trumpeter Swans in Ontario have been re-introduced and so sport large yellow tags on their wings. Admittedly, this makes it easier to identify them if you can't see their face clearly.

The sun has been huge the last few nights. I finally made it to a spot without corn where I could catch the full view - but was about five minutes too late.
A huge ego is your worst enemy. An inflated ego can lead you astray and ruin your life. It can destroy your relationships, prevent you from recognizing opportunities, and inhibit true success. Granted, we all need self-esteem and confidence to win in this world. But when confidence becomes arrogance, you risk ruining everything you’ve worked hard to build.

I saw this great blue heron with this huge fish and I only got a few pictures before it swallowed it whole. It must of been struggling with it for awhile because there is no way it swallowed the fish that easily.
this huge adult male Mountain Gorilla was photographed in the rainforests of Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, one of the last strongholds of this fascinating ape.
"Silverback" is often used to describe mature male gorillas as they have grey or pale areas on their back.
These Silverbacks are very large and powerful: they can be up to 2m (6.5 ft) tall and weigh over 200 kg (440 lbs)
IUCN Red List Status: ENDANGERED

This is the first year our Itoh Peony flowered and was very surprised at the size of these seed pods!!
Itoh peonies, with their spectacular flowers and beautiful colors are a gift to gardeners everywhere.
Itoh peonies originated by crossing herbaceous peonies and tree peonies, and they combine the best features of each. While they have the mounded growth habit of herbaceous peonies and die back to the ground in winter, they also produce immense flowers like tree peonies.
While exploring Squamish in September , we had a look in a public garden. I did not succeeded in growing a pumpkin this year ( only sunflowers and a few cherry tomatoes). I did not carve the pumpkin I had at home , only drawn a face - will not show it on Flickr. There were lots of fireworks in my neighbourhood last night. Today we start November with sun ( unfortunately it is not going to be sunny all week) . To all many thanks for your comment . Have a good week.

In Schwetzingen castle grounds I discovered a nice view out of the window of an old temple over to a mosque, designed by Nicolas de Pigage. The late-Baroque building serves no religious purpose.
Schwetzingen Palace Gardens are a cultural heritage site of European significance: more than 100 sculptures are scattered throughout this wonderful, and at times surprising, landscape. An assortment of whimsical buildings lend an exotic touch. Most spectacularly, in the Türkischer Garten (Turkish gardens), there is a mosque designed by Nicolas de Pigage – the largest structure of its kind in a German garden. Ornamented with oriental details, the late-Baroque building was purely decorative and served no religious purpose.
