The engineer leaves the train of inbound mill cars on the main as he starts up GP35 #3044. This railroad may not be the best looking, but it is surely very fascinating to watch.

The first couple times this train was seen, Paul and I noticed a heavy (for EMD) cloud of black smoke coming out. Here, the engineer grabs a couple notches and the motor falls on its face, seemingly about to stall. Seconds later, the motor comes back to life, and the smoke clears. This engine must not like to be cold!

HRT 654 pulls a morning freight south on the Hartwell Railroad, with their only six axle motor in charge. Behind The J is an ex-Conrail GP, which led the train to Elberton after the SD40 was left at Rose Acres Feed mill in Bowersville.

Still wearing its EJ&E paint scheme, HRT SD38 #654 is seen here resting under the shed for the night in Lavonia, GA.

Former EJ&E SD38 #654, now owned by the Hartwell Railroad is seen here resting for the weekend at Bowersville, GA.

A Hartwell Railroad Freight Train is seen here passing by a couple of sidelined Locomotives at Bowersville, GA, as they head north to interchange with Norfolk Southern in Toccoa, GA.
