Handley Page Victor, the last V-bomber.

Last in a long line of Handley Page bombers, the prototype HP.80 Victor flew from Boscombe Down on 24 December 1952. The first Victor B.Mk I squadron, No 10, became operational in April 1958. The B Mk II was a more powerful version with a larger span; two squadrons were armed with the Avro Blue Steel stand-off missile. Victor B.(PR) Mk I and B.(PR) Mk II were photo-reconnaissance variants. After its days as a strategic nuclear bomber were over, the Handley Page Victor gave sterling service as a fligth refuelling tanker.

About the model:

I've always found the Handley Page Victor to be one of the most interesting bombers of all times, mainly because of how it looks. With the engines in the wingroots it could be a further development of the de Havilland Comet on steroids. But also the enlarged cross-section of the nose-section of the plane is rather unique. More than 30 years ago i built my first HP Victor, a plastic model kit, in scale 1:72, so I fell for the temptaion of building one in Lego too, and here it is!

It is one of the most complex models I have built so far. It's created in more than 50 Studio file iterations striving to improve the shape and proportions.

Searching for a way to build the nose-section, I fould the 18909 Cone Half 6 x 3 x 6 (Elliptic Paraboloid) to fit very well. And in fact I stayed with this part to iteration no. 41. Then I realized that the nose cross-section isn't circular and replaced this single piece with wedge bricks and tiles to give the nose section a more flat underside.

The engine air intakes were also quite challenging! They are made by angling a pair of Technic bricks inside the wings to hold the panelling on top of the wing. Only thing I'm not satisfied with, is the shape of the intakes I would have liked them to be more eliptical.

Wing design: The inner wing sections are made as a sandwich constuction with studs facing upward on top, and facing down on the underside of the wing, thus making the wing look pretty clean both from above and below. Hinges are used to hold the leading edge of the middle wing section in place. Hinges are also used in combination with wedge plates to form the outer wing-panels.

The model features a pair of openable speedbrakes near the tail cone.

As with many of my other models a few bricks have been painted, some pieces aren't available in dark green.

As always, comments and critisism is more than welcome!

My HP 9816 (aka HP 9000 Model 226). The 200 Series machines were HP's high-end technical desktops in the early Eighties and were based on the new Motorola 68000 processor. This model was introduced in 1982 and has 8 MHz clock speed, 2 expansion slots, an HP-IB interface, and a 9" monitor providing a resolution of 400x300 pixels. Programmable in BASIC, Pascal, HPL, and FORTRAN. Originally, this computers were used for more serious things than gaming ;-)

Another new camera added to my collection this past Saturday. A friend gave me this old HP Photosmart E317 5 megapixel digital camera and it works. Not that great compared to today's digital cameras, but it does take pictures. Which I have already, so it's another camera in my collection that I have actually used.
